    Anyways thanks.

The lights come on when the engine is switched on, if the engine is off and you push the bike forward i.e. when the bike will be on the move the lights will come on... have observed this with my bike...

And it might not even be an issue at all... cant really say much without listening to the engine sound...

Always keep a check on the following:-
      Engine oil level
Keep a check for oil leaks (happens from oil filter region in many of the dukes, even mine had a leak from there)
Check whether coolant level stays the same... there have been a couple of cases for Duke 200 as well as 390 of coolant leakage into the engine...
If the engine is performing as it should then dont worry much about the noise...
      Hi Viper,

There are no oil leaks and the coolant is fine as well. The engine performs well too. Are you able to determine anything from the video i posted.

Do all engines make this sound?

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle!

Ohhh ok, thats cool. So that means there is some random tiny electric glitch which sometimes causes the lights to remain off when the engine is turned on.

I am probably going to get a lot of flak for this post. But here it is anyway.

I *strongly* recommend that everyone d390 owner take his bike and understand how the abs kicking in on front brake feels like. Take ur bike on a road where it is safe (no one behind you) etc and where its slightly slippery, say either a thin layer of sand, or in some polished concrete surfaces like in the basements of larger appts or whatever and try. Try it at under 30kmph (actually going faster increases downforce on the front when you brake and therefore less likely to skid/abs). And then grab your front lever alone like there is no tomorrow. See how it feels.

Admittedly, i have no experience with this on any other bike and therefore no frame of refernce. Howerver, the reason i am strongly recommending this, is that i have had abs kick in a couple of times in the last few days at very low speeds (mostly bad roads etc). Its ok on the rear lever, but it feels very very odd on the front lever. The abs unit pulses in with so much force, that the lever feels like its frozen (which is ok) and it stays locked for a little too long in my opinion (which is not ok). I was going at around 20-30, braked hard for a stupid pedestrian, and the bike totally surprised me. It just didnt stop. I had to press even harder and longer to counter act it. Since that happened i tried forcing abs to kick in and got a feel for how hard i should actually be squeezing the lever. The increase front brake lever play worsens thing a little too.

Again, i strongly suggest you get a feel for it now rather than in a panic situation later.

                Ride safe!

Yeah, so it was you, yes you were in full riding gear, but your duke sounded a little rash, unlike other dukes.

I also feel that ABS is only good in case of tarmac and if there is sand on raod or off road it better to drive without ABS. In my office parking where the ground is smooth it feel like bike will never stop and I've also observed same thing with my swift with ABS, but with karizma I was felt much more comfortable and found that stopping distance is less.
I belive that if you are a good driver you can stop bike in less distance on sand or while off roading without ABS.

I have had the front and rear abs kick in multiple times at relatively slower speed but always on road. The abs on 390 (or most of the current bikes) is not supposed to be used off road.
Only now is offroad abs improved enough to acceptable standards and that too it is available on higher end bikes like Adventure 1190.

The stopping distance with ABS will always be greater... yes the front lever feels frozen when ABS kicks in
The rear brake gets better with more usage
A very experienced rider can stop the bike with great precision without ABS..
Dont switch off the ABS in the duke... very useful in panic situation and since the bike is light, its more prone to lockups... especially the rear

Being the worrywart that i am i went to 3 KTM service centers to check on this sound in the last few days. 3 different techs assured me that the sound is absolutely normal.

The bikes i heard in the SVCs also sound similar. The bike runs great, idles fine, doesnt leak or show any abnormal heating so im letting this rest for now.

A friend who has a 390 for a while now confirms that the sound will get better after the services so im not worried anymore. The bike is just a blast to ride !!

Dont you worry. My current bike, the 200NS also had this kind of weird tappet noise for around 5000 kms and disappeared after beginning to use motul 7100. On these well engineered engines the valve clearances need adjustments every 15k kms and just a hundred kms after adjustment, the sounds return. Anyway if the sound persists I guess you'll have to learn to live with it.
