Also planning to try out Engine Ice coolant sometime soon. Many recommend it and people have seen reduction in 1-2 bars abroad on 390 after using this.I had dabbled into the topic of coolants before when I had the high coolant temperature issue. After lots of reading on the net and comparing figures, I came to a conclusion that engine ice was only marginally better than the Motul coolant and that too in one or two aspects, namely specific heat and may be a bit of thermal conductivity. These two parameters might be a bit related but, the former means the ability of a liquid(or for that matter any mass) to absorb heat. The second is how well that heat is transferred between one part of that liquid to another. Metals have very poor specific heat, the reason they heat up in an instant while water, with one of the highest specific heat needs hundreds of calories more to attain the same temperature, also th reason coastal areas have a balmy climate throughout the year.Originally posted by Adarsh_Bk View PostEven I have been switching off engine at every signal, I thought the engine overheats only in slow speeds/idle as there is no sufficient air flow for radiator. On the other hand Metals have very high heat conductivity as compared to liquids.
The challenge is striking a perfect balance between these two conflicting parameters to get an optimum mix for a particular engine type.
Both the motul coolant and engine ice seem well matched.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I meant when parking. In traffic, always keep the bike running.Originally posted by AmitRavi07 View PostI have been doing this for about a month now. Once when I was in traffic, I saw that the temperature had risen after switching off the engine and then turning it on. I checked it a few times and saw that the bars would increase when I switched-off the bike - almost touching the high temp bars.
Since then I have made it a habit not to switch-off the bike; the temp does not come down, however, it does not increase either, hence, the engine temp remains same. This is my experience in somewhat warm climate. The heat is yet to pick up here in Delhi, lets see how it goes.KTM Duke 390 | RE Interceptor 650

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I had initiated this discussion about keeping the engine on when fan is running few pages back. The conclusion was though it is desirable to keep the engine on till fan switches off but it is near impossible to wait till it switches off because it takes more than 10 mins!
In traffic signals I don't switch it off. Howevr, when I park for the day, I switch it off after waiting for 1 min.A lone amateur built the ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic...

Hi. My feb 2014 manufactured 320 odd km run bike has a very noisy engine. This is especially evident after the bike has been run for a bit. On a cold start in the morning in idle , the sound is not so bad. The sound i hear is tic.tic/clakity clack. Very similar to a bullets tappets sound
Will be taking it to the svc to check it out on the weekend. Have any of u experienced this. What could be the cause ?
From my LG-G2Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle!

Guys i have been facing a weird problem with the bike. The coolant reservoir empties within 500-600 kms but there is no visible leak. The SVC guys say that the coolant is not leaking into the engine as there would be water condensation on the oil level gauge. Also how long does the coolant normally last without the need to refill ?I bought the Ninja 250R !!.....And then i woke up :(

I've never refilled the coolant till date and my bike has done 10K kms..Originally posted by motorheadZMA View PostGuys i have been facing a weird problem with the bike. 10k?? i reached 7.5k...
high coolant temperature came up twice for me...I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

You definately have a serious problem here, the coolant doesnt evaporate even after thousands of miles...Originally posted by motorheadZMA View PostGuys i have been facing a weird problem with the bike. Take the bike to the SVC and ask them to find the source of leakage, if the coolant is mixing with the engine oil or if the bike is running without coolant, in both cases the engine will fail...

From my LG-G2
Might be sticky tappets, SVC would open the cylinder head and adjust the timings if needed...

I remember the discussion regarding this, even i had tried and it was taking for ever for the fan to stop...Originally posted by NitinGirish View PostI had initiated this discussion about keeping the engine on when fan is running few pages back. Apparently the excessive heat from the engine is taking toll on the seals on my bike, there was a sligh leak from oil filter area as well as the cylinder head in my case...

Is this a serious issue ? Should they really be opening up an engine thats not even 500 kms old ?Originally posted by viper3683 View Post

I had faced same problem on duke 200. During my 1st visit to service centre they couldnt find the source but after few days i could see visible change of engine oil to greenish color. After changing the sealing problem got sorted. Get it sorted as soon as possible from svc.Originally posted by motorheadZMA View PostGuys i have been facing a weird problem with the bike. Not at all a serious issue, they would only remove the head of the cylinder and adjust the timings...Originally posted by The Pain View PostIs this a serious issue ? Should they really be opening up an engine thats not even 500 kms old ?

From my LG-G2
And it might not even be an issue at all... cant really say much without listening to the engine sound...
Always keep a check on the following:-
Engine oil level
Keep a check for oil leaks (happens from oil filter region in many of the dukes, even mine had a leak from there)
Check whether coolant level stays the same... there have been a couple of cases for Duke 200 as well as 390 of coolant leakage into the engine...
If the engine is performing as it should then dont worry much about the noise...

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I never have faced this issue till now. The svc guys used a top-up in the first service (even then there was no requirement per se) , in the second service they did not even top-up the fluid as the level was adequate. Is your coolant color yellow or green? The reason I am asking this is because, the green colored one has a higher boiling point (~170C) than the yellow one (~125C).Originally posted by motorheadZMA View PostGuys i have been facing a weird problem with the bike. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Make sure all electrical are working fine and that the ECU check light is not on. Then check for the engine oil level and coolant level in the bike, top up if needed, chain lubricated or not . And then check for damages to fiber /plastic part and paint quality, insist on a replacement of parts if there are scratches or some irregularities in paint finish.Originally posted by padfootmoony2006 View PostHi guys.....im accompanying a friend for his D390 delivery that is scheduled on Monday 31st from Thane KTM.....just wanted to know about any pre delivery inspections that have to be done from our end before the acceptance?

And also do make sure that the radiator fan is working. Getting to know that it isn't working when stuck in traffic isn't exactly something we do not want with this bike.
Cheers
