Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
This is a serious issue man, so far I have not driven in rain so can't comment. Try to reproduce it by drenching the starter in water to see if problem reoccursOriginally posted by elangoas View PostI had a strange problem in the last few days when it rained heavily in chennai..... Self start wan't working... Battery is perfectly fine, lights, horns all work fine.. When i press self start, there is no sign of bike starting... It didn't even make sound....
I tried to analyse the problem, later found that it was because of water spilling on the starter motor.... Whenever water spills heavily from the tyre on to the starter motor, there is no response when you engage self.... I tried kicking the bike in the same situation & it started without a choke....
So clearly the problem is with self-start motor when it getz wet.... has anyone experienced this problem so far ?

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Yea,this dirt issue is same with me....Even few hundred metres of ride on wet roads make bike very dirty....Originally posted by paradoxr9019 View PostHi All,
I got a Suzuki Gixxer and I have a small query..
when I am cruising at 40 kmph, If I open the throttle to higher RPMs The Bike seems to loose its power at 3000 to 3500 rev range and when it crosses the 4k rpm mark, the power is back once again..
its like as though she is trying to catch some breath before reving past 3k rpm
I found this yesterday when I was taking her to the RTO office. Is this the characteristic of the bike? I dunno ...
or is something wrong with the carb setting that need to be looked into?..
Also I had some issues yesterday when I was perfoming a cold start!! The bike started but was loosing power when I tried to move her at gear 1.
previously I had a fuel injected bike and she worked like a charm!
Thanks I advance!!
cheers
PS. I also have another concern!! If you look at the pillion foot pegs they are directly welded to the chassis!!
during rain, the mudguard does a decent job protecting the pillion but fails to shield the bike...
most of the interiors are getting so muddy... the chain, even the mono got so much mud on it and I had to pour some water to wash them after reaching home..
all this mud and humid conditions will surely aid corrosion..
am I the only one feeling so?
I wish i could install R15 style extended mud guard to it...
like this..
can anyone help me regarding that..Last edited by livingsoul; 10-21-2014, 09:58 PM.Don't be Sad about people,They'll die anyway!

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Gixxer is a naked bike and we have live with the mud slash spraying all over the bike, the front mud guard needs a mud flap, something like KTM DUKE and Pulser 200 NS where in can drill a hole and fix it.Originally posted by paradoxr9019 View PostHi All,

I tried the KTM DUKE mud flap it almost perfect fit expect it has bit sharp edges and gixxer has round edge mud guard. I will wait for suzuki to design a mud flap or else I will go ahead with KTM's
see the pic by Added_flavor in this link related to mud flap

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Not sure if can reproduce this effectively.... Anyways will wait for an other day's rain....Will try to get the starter wet & take it to the service center... If needed will speak to Suzuki Service engineer directly....Originally posted by SparKot View PostSee if you can reproduce the issue effectively. If the issue recurs/pops in several bikes then it's probably a placement issue. If Suzuki is following this thread then will surely notice it.
I remember reading water seeping in to air-filter when Access-125 is ridden in rain. Suzuki provided a temporary solution by wrapping air-filter chamber with PE sheets. Not sure how they've addressed it in new batches.
Check if this happens to you too... Will report to the service center & get Suzuki Service Engineer's attention...Originally posted by harishbabu View PostThis is a serious issue man, so far I have not driven in rain so can't comment. BTW there is a Suzuki service engineer in Chennai who worls most of the time from SMK Suzuki (Porur)... If any pals have issues & not happy with your service, you can report it to him.... Will update his details... Here

I am also thinking in the same lines.. need to find somehow fix the supporting rod to the bike, it requires wielding to the frame..Originally posted by livingsoul View PostYea,this dirt issue is same with me....Even few hundred metres of ride on wet roads make bike very dirty....

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
harishbabu and livingsoul.. I previously owned an R15 v2 and there was no issues with mud or cold starts..
It is not wise that we make physical modifications to the bike.
If something is available from the manufacturer or something that can be a direct fit, we can go for it..

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Yesterday I have covered at around 30 kms in the drenching roads of Chennai.
And yes, I acknowledge that the mud completely covers the bike. The engine is completely covered.
And the rear suspension has turned to brown color.
The mud covering the bike is one thing, but it did not depreciate the performance of the vehicle.
And until I completed my ride I never felt any deterioration in ride quality.
I dropped off my friend in his house and used the self only to start, and it started as usual. I never experienced any self fail.
The starter motor seems to be an enclosed mechanism completely.
Water drenching on the enclosure cover of the motor should not affect the starter operation.
Rather it might be some shorting caused by the water on supply to the motor.
I am just a novice with bikes but am an electrical engineer, so explaining the facts according to my knowledge.
I am in home town for Diwali. And finally happy Diwali to everyone here.
