  • Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155

The Blue color of gixxer coded as (Metallic Triton Blue) is the exclusive color of the GSX series and the GSX-R 1000 is available in this one particular color only. That's one reason and I love Blue, so went with it!

Anyway my Father persistently suggested me the Black color and Red Color as second opinion.

All colors last longer if washed and waxed regularly and protected from rain and sun light. My 4 years 9 months old GS is red and its color has not faded much.
Buy a good car shampoo and wax like Armor All or Collinite 845.

Have Previously filled Full tank (11.2L+ Some fuel already left in reserve) with HP petrol. And After 510 kms, I have hit reserve! With reserve capacity at 2.4 litres. I calculate my mileage to be 53.125 KM/L. With 80% of riding done in city traffic, I expect the highway mileage to be even higher atmost ~ 58KM/L. Planning for a long drive after 1st service.
Some of my traffic caught ups in this run include
                      - Crossing the kathipara flyover 6 times. (Heavy traffic max speed 10 kmph if not at stand still)
                      - Crossing velacherry signal to 100ft road 10 times. (moderate to heavy traffic 10kmph)
                      - Caught up in tiruvanmiyur to tidel signals 8 times. (literal stand still).

Any way I am more than satisfied with the mileage I get.
As the higher rev ranges are unlocked after 1st srvice, I can't expect much from the mileage part as doing 60's atjust 5 sec into the trip; what else can I do? But not to twist the throttle!

I had a strange problem in the last few days when it rained heavily in chennai..... Self start wan't working... Battery is perfectly fine, lights, horns all work fine.. When i press self start, there is no sign of bike starting... It didn't even make sound....

I tried to analyse the problem, later found that it was because of water spilling on the starter motor.... Whenever water spills heavily from the tyre on to the starter motor, there is no response when you engage self.... I tried kicking the bike in the same situation & it started without a choke....

So clearly the problem is with self-start motor when it getz wet.... has anyone experienced this problem so far ?

was quite surprised with this. guys please give your insights.
My decision to scale down from 223cc to 155cc was based on the fact that I was going to use it for commuting to work.

ZMA is an awesome tourer. But I have not done a single tour on bike in the last 4 years. And looking at these 4 years, I am sure I cannot even think of a bike trip in the near future. I have an emotional connect with my ZMA. Over the period of 9.5 years, it has served me well. Be it going to work everyday, the inter-state trips, or the longer ones (ladakh), the bike did help me reach home - safe and sound.

Although the bike runs solid, the age factor is now showing up. There are quite a few issues that need to be fixed. To list a few: general service, side stand has to be replaced, disc pad and brake shoes have to replaced, electrical issue - the display console is blank (ignition on and ignition off look more or less the same; however the bike starts and runs well), outer panel of the headlight has to be replaced, the cowls (fairings) are cracked due to a few falls at standstill due to the broken side stand, forks have to be overhauled. The last few services have costed me around 5-7k each on an average. Looking at all these things, being practical seemed wiser than being emotional.

The other reason for the downgrade is the bring down the fuel expense (blame the family man in me).

My wife and I discussed on the estimate on the repair work on the ZMA on 6th evening. Over the course of discussion, getting a new bike looked more practical than spending more on maintaining an almost 10-year-old bike. We got ready in the 10 minutes, headed to SMK and booked the Gixxer. The initial idea was to exchange the ZMA, but SMK said they would take it for 10k, which I thought was too cheap.

The ZMA has been a family bike. Be it taking the family out, or getting the water can or the LPG cylinder during emergency situations, the ZMA has faced all kinds of abuses. With a fiber tank (tank is where my daughter loves to sit on the ZMA) and a not-so-friendly pillion seat, the gixxer no way is going to be a family bike. During the TD, my wife did complain about the rear seat. Guess it is time to put my car into use when I have to take my wife and daughter out for nearby areas.

I booked my bike at SMK Suzuki, Porur, on Oct 6 and taking delivery today (Oct 21). A 15-day waiting in all, which is reasonable.

See if you can reproduce the issue effectively. If the issue recurs/pops in several bikes then it's probably a placement issue. If Suzuki is following this thread then will surely notice it.

I remember reading water seeping in to air-filter when Access-125 is ridden in rain. Suzuki provided a temporary solution by wrapping air-filter chamber with PE sheets. Not sure how they've addressed it in new batches.

Initial GiXXeR-155 reviews also pointed out this unfriendly rear-grab-rail for the pillion.

My cribbing was mud slinging from front wheel on to engine-block-front & for some extent the rear wheel mess too. Yamaha FZ [16/S] v2.0 addressed this part well in the rear at least. However, I like Yamaha YZF R-15's rear extended tyre-hugger.

                              Hi All,
I got a Suzuki Gixxer and I have a small query..
when I am cruising at 40 kmph, If I open the throttle to higher RPMs The Bike seems to loose its power at 3000 to 3500 rev range and when it crosses the 4k rpm mark, the power is back once again..
its like as though she is trying to catch some breath before reving past 3k rpm
I found this yesterday when I was taking her to the RTO office. Is this the characteristic of the bike? I dunno ...
or is something wrong with the carb setting that need to be looked into?..
Also I had some issues yesterday when I was perfoming a cold start!! The bike started but was loosing power when I tried to move her at gear 1.
previously I had a fuel injected bike and she worked like a charm!

                              Thanks I advance!! cheers

PS. I also have another concern!! If you look at the pillion foot pegs they are directly welded to the chassis!!
during rain, the mudguard does a decent job protecting the pillion but fails to shield the bike...
most of the interiors are getting so muddy... the chain, even the mono got so much mud on it and I had to pour some water to wash them after reaching home..
all this mud and humid conditions will surely aid corrosion.. am I the only one feeling so?
