You are probably using the rear brakes incorrectly
    Thanks Moto!

I've got the the PDI list(That sticky on XBhp) in my head. Is there anything I should look out for on delivery day?

I'm a city rat. Prefer to play it safe. Amateur rider to be honest and don't think I'll be a rev maniac. Close to 40 kms of daily commute!

Any tips from fellow gixxer users on daily maintenance?

Check for any oil leak from stator coil cable port and bring it to the attention of the dealership as well since its one of the most common issues with gixxers

Check your brakes and brake rotors properly

Check for any misalignments or defects.

As for maintenance, just follow the service schedule mentioned in your owner's manual religiously. Aside from that, you will have to get the chain cleaned/lubed every 500-1000kms depending on the condition of the chain.

Guys, Have a look at this. I am in the confusion whether to buy this or not because i found many mixed opinion for LED Headlight mod. Some says LED's are not suitable for headlights and it will blind the oncoming traffic.

I see someone quoted this on gixxer SF thread:

I like many too had done this change to l.e.d but our reflector isn't made to focus the beam properly and thus it goes haywire blinding the oncoming traffic
And many l.e.d wont work properly ,i.e no passer
Better change to a 55/60w bulb
Which i had to done after seeing the results of l.e.d s
Believe me you cant be that guy who doesn't give a QUACK to the oncoming lane and flooding them with cool white 6000/8000 k lights
Dont be afraid to do so as it wont have any ill effects on your battery
Its tried and tested by multiple xbhpians including me
I am now running on Bosch 4100k 55/60w halogen bulb which gives me more than sufficient illumination and costs 400 a pair
So need some expert opinion on this regard

there are option for H4 socket. will that be a direct fit without any modification?

I'm a noob here so please help out!

Quick question.. Is it ok to drive it around the city before getting the registration done ? Or should I wait for all the formalities to be completed before taking the bike out?
Update from the showroom where i had placed an order for the MotoGP blue edition.. The sales guy called up and told me that he will be receiving stock of the Black and Gold variant (2018 SP with ABS as standard) as well as the regular Black today but no Blue(Further delay of 7 days expected)

He advised me to come take a look at then choose.

I understand color is subjective but what do you guys think ?

            1. Will the 2018 SP edition have better resale value at the end of say 2-3 years ? (Just curious )
            2. Is there a remote possibility that the 2018 SP edition vehicles have undergone some minor tweaking to fix some issues based on customer feedback ?
            3. What about the actual color itself ? Anybody here has this variant yet ?Click image for larger version

I have a 2017 Gixxer SP. Here are my comments.

                  1. Don't know much but don't think that there will be a vast difference in resale value between sp and normal 2018 models. May be some other experienced owner give a better overview.

                  2. No changes have been made apart from adding ABS. The pillion seat is still as uncomfortable as ever. The gear are as chunky as ever.

                  3. Looks decent. I dont like it much. But then again looks are subjective

                    Hello guys.

I've done around 5k odo and looking to switch engine oil soon to fully synthetic. As I've read here R9000 is now available, any thoughts on this who used it (@motoblizz). should I buy motul 5100?

R9000 doesn't feel any different than the other "normal" oils I've tried such as Shell AX7 or Motul by Suzuki. After experiencing these oils, I̶ ̶f̶e̶e̶l̶ I felt that for MY bike, it's better to use Shell AX7 for around 2000-2500kms and change it, as it is easily available at the shell petrol pumps near my place.

5100 doesn't come in the required grade.

DISCLAIMER - Shell AX7 is for those out of warranty as it is said that it's not supported by Suzuki. I have NOT recommended it, rather I have said what I think is appropriate for MY bike.

Ok. Have you tried motul 7100?

What I observed recently is that mineral oil is not ideal for long distance trips as the engine is revving higher at idle. This is the reason I want to switch mineral to SS or FS oil.

5100 is not officially supported by Suzuki for Gixxer.

                          You have only 4 options.

                          1. Motul by Suzuki (Mineral) (Discontinued by Motul and rebranded as ECSTAR R5000)
                          2. ECSTAR R5000 (mineral)
                          3. Idemitsu (SemiSynth) (Useless crap)
                          4. ECSTAR R9000 (Allegedly FS- I dont believe them because Idemitsu has not responded to my query regarding whether it contains 100% group4 base oil)

So ultimately my recommendation is to stick with ECSTAR R5000. I have done extensive non-chemical testing with all the above mentioned oils and if your SVC doesnt have Motul by Suzuki in Stock go with R5000. You are not going to feel any difference with R9000 either but since you are in Warranty period theres no point in opting for R9000 either since you will be changing the oil during each service which is within 4000kms or 90days.

Dont recommend an oil that is not supported by Suzuki within the warranty period.

Gixxer's engine doesnt benefit from 7100 or rather 7100 is overkill for gixxer's engine. If you are not going to do a lot of touring and just long distance trips, its not feasible to use 7100 unless you have cash to burn.

I'll put a mail to Suzuki asking about the r9000 and their recommended FS. Others please do the same to build up some pressure, not having a proper recommended FS oil! Wake up Suzuki

Well then, post updated. It's upto the user to decide.

It's the same grade (for the ambient temperatures in my area) and has the same specification as Suzuki's recommendation in the manual.

A lot of companies market Group 3 oils as synthetic, like Castrol, Shell to save costs.

I have used it. The engine "feels" a tad more eager to rev. Also smoothness goes down a little, the engine feels a little bit coarse. For some reason all these FS oils started an oil leak from the head for me despite using the correct quantity.

I ran it for 4000kms before changing it. The engine had started to become sluggish and rough.
