In other words, whenever the swingarm moves, the brake gets applied/released. Check pedal free play and keep it as mentioned in the owner's manual.

For my GS it is 12-17 mm (1.2-1.7 cm). You can set it yourself by loosening the adjusting nut (near the wheel, on the brake cam lever) 1/2 a turn at a time.

          Hi Guys,

I read somewhere that chain is recommended to be lubed anywhere between 750kms - 1000kms. But when it should be CLEANED?

          1) I'm attaching my chain's picture now, can I lube it now or it needs cleaning?
          2) Is diesel + tooth brush method fine for cleaning?

You may perform a cleaning in every 2000 kms. Never use diesel to clean the chain. It may damage the O ring. Only use kerosene and brush.

How does it damage the o-ring. I cannot see such info anywhere? Can you help me?

Sorry my bad. I shouldn't be using the word 'damage'. infact it will work over kerosene for sure but you may or might not get the best possible result in diesel over kerosene plus its a bit controversial subject too. I usually clean my chain myself with kerosene and using SAE 90 gear oil for the lubrication.

I would like you to go through this thread so that you get an idea about chain cleaning as well as lubing:

Better use sae 140 grade gear oil it is thicker and would last long.
Sae 90 is thinner and wouldnt last long !!

Also to add after new bikes are assembled at plants the engineers use Sae 140 gear oil for chain and then test it and are transported!!

Just to add, in the event that shoes are changed make sure to change both shoes and springs and grease the studs before inserting the new shoes.

Most people ignore to change the springs which is something I don't understand they cost peanuts in comparison and could leave you stranded when you least expect it.

Keep away from sand paper, just blowing the residue(use a face mask!) with a blower would do the job. If you feel that your shoes need to be scrubbed then you're better off replacing them. Reason for recommending against sand paper is due to wearing down the hub/alloy sooner than ideal if not done with caution.

Kerosene and Diesel are very similar to each other. Diesel is perfect fine for chain cleaning. Petrol is harmful, it will cause teh O-rings to expand on prolonged exposure. And 2000 is too long, the recommended range is 500-1000

The chain "looks" dry. If it feels dry to the touch then lube it. Problem with Gear oil is that it collects crud much faster than aerosol Lube. You might have to clean it as well. Its better to invest in an aerosol lube can like Motul. The thing about chain maintenance is that you tend to use more of the Cleaner than the Lube.

140 is way too thick and wont provide any useful function. Instead it will get more grimy and gritty. Sae 90 is more than enough.

Also manufacturers use factory lube which is their special Grease on the chain not gear oil.

Thats an A+ job. Monitor the chain everyday as a part of coldstart checkups. Touch the chain and see if its wet or not (not sticky but wet). If its fine then keep continuing with the rides.

If you have a 400ml C2 bottle, it should last you anywhere between 5000 to 10000 kms or more depending on chain condition.

Yess. I have that 400ml can, using it from the beginning. It might still can stand for 2 more sessions and I have clocked 8.6K kms. Thanks...

                              Hi Kuulbhaskar:

Please let me known if you have the ballast installed. I bought nighteye too, but light directly has the plug, can I plug it straight into the connector and no issues at all?

There is no ballast that comes with the nighteye its just play and play. I suppose you mean to say the rubber dust cover that comes with stock headlamp, No i havent installed it .

Also if you are installing in BS4 model do install a switch for headlight cause a friend using the same without switch screwed his Nighteye led headlamp
