It is coming to India, but will take 4-5 months from now . And will come with a price increase.. Whether to wait is your decision

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
There is no need to break in new tyres or brakes. They pretty much will work at their best when new. Just watch any bike race and you will see tyres and brakes work best when new and braking and grip decreasing after some laps.Originally posted by somenath1061 View PostIt is indeed great to have ABS but it is equally important to break in those new tyres and the brakes. Remember to use both the brakes and develop good braking habits..you will see ABS intervention will reduce drastically. It is thus important not to take brand new bikes outside city limits. But cheers to you experience
After biking for over 30 years mostly on much more powerful bikes think am reasonably adept at braking though of course one keeps learning. In fact when doing an emergency stop on a bike without ABS it is advisable to use only the front brake as the rear will lock up when using both brakes. The science behind this the front brakes have more stopping power and as one brakes weight transfers to the front, the rear end lightens and the rear wheel will lock up. Obviously each to his own but this is what I was taught at an advanced biking course in UK by experienced riders.
As Regards not taking a new bike outside city limits somehow the logic of this statement escapes me!!!

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
With your experience one can do whatever one wants to. However new users like us need to get used to the proper breaking techniques using everything at disposal i.e. front rare brakes and the engine. Though experience for me is mostly limited to my bike and a few other I have tried my hands on. It still classifies me as rookie. We can sure do better with more advanced bike training available in India which as we all know is non-existant. Just a thought and my own outlook. No hard feelings.Originally posted by Adilkadri123 View PostThere is no need to break in new tyres or brakes. They pretty much will work at their best when new. Chances are pretty slim that it wouldn't make to India. In the end all that matters is - Patience!Originally posted by Mail2vasant View PostJust got a call from a Ktm showroom, asking when do i want to buy Rc390. +1 for that. Had almost finalised on the R3. But hearing that the the new RC390 will have slipper clutch and ride by wire (not sure if it will be better than what the current version has), it sure sounds like an even better option.Originally posted by smoker n doper View PostChances are pretty slim that it wouldn't make to India. One doubt, will the new exhaust, which is now placed on the right side of the bike( instead of any underbelly one), help reduce the vibrations?

Don't wait man!
Go ahead now. Why to waste years when you are young?
I had money to take RC when its launched, but waited for 1 year for enhancements and wasted precious time.
Now my pillion is ma wife ( If i had taken 1 year back them my pillion would have been girlfriend instead of wife.
, though its same girl)
I am using RC since last 7 months. Its already @ its best.
All these enhancements can be retrofitted 100%, with some bearable cost.

I actually like the Vibrations, it vibrates not too much but just a bit..
The vibrations are like the character of the bike
The things that I want from 2016 version are the mirrors, levers and the exhaust (just because fairing won't scrape) The bike is already good how it is. Ride by wire and slipper clutch would be useful for only the professional riders who want better lap times. For learners like me it is not essential.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Drive by wire throttle has both advantages and disadvantages. Can be tweakable to suit the rider if the electronics can be hacked. Chances of it failing are slim as the specifications and technical requirements are much higher than normal before it can be put into a production vehicle.
On the downside throttle response can be slower and it's only as good as the software running it. As with any piece of equipment failure can happen.
Personally I prefer as little technology as possible on my vehicles as I am a bit of a purist. And If a throttle wire breaks I can replace it myself.
Time will tell how good it is.
I love the growl of the current exhaust. In fact the policeman who was impressed with the bike asked me about it and I did a complimentary Rev for him 😁
No reason why the Indian bikes will not have these changes as it makes no sense for ktm to run two production lines for the same bike.Leh Ladakh Aug 2015

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
The RC 390 is manufactured in India for India and the rest of the world. India will be one of the firsts to get the new model.
The outgoing model is good enough to live with. The only thing that makes a difference for me is the slipper clutch because it is significantly lighter than the current wet multi disc clutch, well on the Duke 390 it is significantly lighter. The slipper clutch will make it comfortable for riding in the city in bumper to bumper traffic. And the slipper clutch can be retrofit at a cost even now but KTM hasn't made this official so warranty gets void.
The newer model will see a price hike, I'd say at least 20% hike. I personally don't think the upgrades are worth that extra money and the extra long wait period for a person who doesn't take it to the track very often.

Old rc390 hasn't stopped production. 2016 one is still under testing.Originally posted by Ivin View PostIts always best to go with the updated one. Whatever retrofit you do wont be as perfect as a factory fitting. The old RC390 is long stopped and dealers will clear the existing stocks to make way for new one.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Hmmm. the exhaust make the bike look kinda bigger.. I don't know why people complain about the mirrors, personally when I rode a friend's bike some days back, the mirrors felt much better than the one's on my Duke 200.Originally posted by Ivin View PostIts always best to go with the updated one. And that bike was fitted with RD's powertronic ECU, so the vibrations were almost not present at all.. so the mirrors were pretty clear even at 120kmph..

On a serious note though, I would not want to regret later moreover, the current P220 is serving all the purpose really well.
The production has not stopped for the RC as of now. But going by what KTM folks are telling, it seems post this launch the current model will be discontinued.Originally posted by Ivin View PostIts always best to go with the updated one.
