Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
First of all there is nothing called rev limiter in RC, I dnt know who is giving this information to people buying RC's. Its not like it will stop your bike from revving the engine to 9 or 10k rpm, It's just shift light. Which tells you when to shift to the next gear.
You can adjust it as per your requirements, it's recommended by KTM that engine should not rev over 7500 rpm before first service. You can try yourself by adjusting the shift light as per your requirements.
Happy riding

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Actually I own an RC but the thing is that i feel the gear ratio to be real short. The SVC manager told me that the bike is limited to 7500 rpm till 2nd service. Don't really Know, have to double check with the guy.Originally posted by Nickyboy View PostFirst of all there is nothing called rev limiter in RC, I dnt know who is giving this information to people buying RC's. Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
He he he bro there is nothing like that, if he says so then tell him to put the rev limiter at 7500 and rev the bike till 8000 and prove him wrong
and my personal experience with RC is with talk gears! I am talking about 390, by the way I assume that you own 390 too. I personally felt that the gears are positioned quiet well and dnt need to shift as we needed to do in 200! You can only feel the tall gears when you'll go past 8/9 rpm, as your bike is new and you're not revving it hard so you need to shift early in every gear (say about 5-7) once you are done with first service you may can go up to 8-9 or even 10 you'll feel the tall gears are actually tall (compare to 200).

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Thanks brother for the reply. Sorry I didn't mention, yes its a 390. Done just 500km in the ODO. Suffering from severe low back pain. Hope its not for the bike. But still can't help riding itOriginally posted by Nickyboy View PostHe he he bro there is nothing like that, if he says so then tell him to put the rev limiter at 7500 and rev the bike till 8000 and prove him wrong

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Completed my running-in in a ride to Bangalore and back
. started from Chennai with the odo showing around 400kms...came back with 1160
below are some details of the ride
Total kms done - 360 + 400 = 760 kms ride.
Started last Friday at 4pm after managing to sneak out early from office!
Filled up petrol and checked air pressure and off i went. With a leather jacket and other gear it was getting sweaty
and i was thinking if ill be able to wear the riding gear throughout the ride ... Wasn't too comfortable riding in them too as it was first time I wearing all the things and was feeling restricted. The sitting position which I used to find comfy now seemed a little uncomfortable.
However things quickly changed as I reached the highway! .... I was now used to the riding gear and the gear itself had somehow adapted to the body? And wasn't feeling hot or sweaty as well....
I was doing a circuit which went like 80-90-100-110-100-90-80 so as to avoid riding at one rpm. It only took me about 50kms on the highway to realise -
1) top speed didn't matter that much, coz acceleration after getting out of slower moments on the highway made sure I was overtaking and smoking others which was a lot of fun
2) above speeds of 90kmph, the wind resistance makes it quite easy to sit on the bike and forward lean takes half as much effort compared to slower speeds.
3) The wind blast was quite less and didn't bother me tho it was present...the leather jacker helped in muting it as well. Don't know about the duke so cant compare.
4) some people said turning was easier on duke due to its upright handle bars and the rc having a fairing. I have feeling the shorter wheel base on the RC compensates for the fairing in slow traffic, and that combined with the fairing gets much better than duke post 100kmph. Filtering on the highway at 100+ was a breeze...and tho once u lean the bike on one side then quickly turning on the other side (not just getting it straight) requires some strength, you get used to it. You also realise the bike is f*&*in planted and you end up making zig zags in lesser distance than you estimated and many of the zig zags u planned don't happen coz the bike leaned so fast you had to get it straight and travel further straight before making the 'zag' part of the zig-zag
I reached bangalore in 5 hours which included one 20 min break and 2 short bursts of speed of 130kmph. The bike got quite dirty and thanks to no rear fender the under seat had quite some mud.
Asked the society guy to clean the bike but he didnt
.... come Saturday evening, I went to meet a friend and show-off the bike. Though i was skeptical coz of the new bike i ended smoking up with my friend :P (not recommended at all).... I started back around 8pm and saw there had been a heavy rainfall. My friend suggested a shortcut and whoah....suddenly my bike was in knee deep water for about 10meters. Though for a second i didnt like what was happening with my new bike.... I was very impressed on how the bike seemed to take it in its stride .... about 1 kms of the way ahead was water potholes and wet mud and wild grass .... I swear my bike was behaving like a curious young leopard out in the jungle for the first time
... I was having so much fun....and couldn't believe it was this track dedicated bike pulling it off.... The KTM soul remains in the bike
....came home and on inspecting found all was good and much off the mud earlier was now washed away ....realised this leopard doesn't need help, it will go out in the wild and wash itself

Ride back started on Sunday 1pm. I was even more comfortable now. And riding was a pleasure. The bike was reaching 900kms but didnt feel significantly rougher. Vibrations tho were more but only at low speeds. Again, riding this thing on the highway is great fun.
On both sides i was less tired on the RC than I used to be on my RTR.
... I think the stretched forward position makes sure you dont hunch while sitting which can cause a upper-mid back pain (used to happen on my RTR). I had no pain in the arms or wrists etc. Neck was slightly tired though. Very pleasantly surprised
The bike also gets a lot of attention as all users would have found out. Moving on to highways and passing villages will have kids turning in awe and breaks mean people ask to click pics :P. But more than looks, this bike in action is so friggin amazing, it is not a trophy wife like the 1000cc ones who will do a once in a blue moon show only on perfect empty roads and crib in all other situations.... It is this gf turned modern wife who will freak out with you and rough it out with you too with lots of love
Didnt click pics as such- but a few tht i did.
Cheers!Last edited by Shantnu; 03-05-2015, 04:03 PM.

Hey bro nice write up.. Anyways you said you were quite comfortable in the bike, How tall are you? I am 5'7" and my hand starts to numb after half an hour.Originally posted by Shantnu View PostOn both sides i was less tired on the RC than I used to be on my RTR.

Thanks manOriginally posted by ammaity View PostHey bro nice write up.. Anyways you said you were quite comfortable in the bike, How tall are you? I am 5'7" and my hand starts to numb after half an hour.
. I am slighter taller at 5'9" . Also, high speeds make a difference because post 100kmph the pressure on hands and wrists reduces a lot with the wind pushing you back.
At slower speeds not my wrists, but throttle side arm does start paining after about an 1 hour. You dont change thorttle much on the highways could be another reason for no pain during my ride. (the bike is a better tourer than city rider :P )
Everyone finds their own comfort spot. you will too
....Another tip if it helps is -
Dont sit on the bike with arms coming from the top and making a 45-60 degree angle with the handle bars and all pressure on the handle bars towards the road. Rather, stoop a little more and bend your arms at the elbow, meeting them at the handle bars at 5-10 degrees. Support the stooping with legs clamped around the tank and ofcourse some pressure on the handle bars (pressure on the handle bars distributed equally towrads the front and the road downwards). This way you will also be able to handle the bike better and take faster cuts in traffic.

If you don't mind, a quick review on the MT helmet at speeds above 100?Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!
