What does it mean by "sharing basis"? So, the same suit will be shared by multiple riders on the same day?Originally posted by R-series View PostThis has been a pretty silent thread for quite a while, just though I should share some related news
KTM Track Day For Duke & RC 390 Owners At BIC On 26th April
Riding Gear -
1) Full-leather riding suit with armour
2) Riding boots
3) FIA approved full-face helmet (Note: ISI approved will not be allowed)
4) Armoured riding gloves
Customers who do not possess leather riding suits and riding boots will have the option of using the ones provided by the organizers on sharing basis and will have to book the same at the time of registration.
Documents -
1) Valid driving license
2) Personal insurance/mediclaim policy
3) Vehicle insurance
4) Vehicle registration certificate
I have THH helmet. How to find out if that's approved by FIA?
Can we take leather suit/shoes/full gauntlet gloves on rent from any shops for a day? How much is the rent generally?
Regarding the documents, do we actually need to carry our "Personal insurance/mediclaim policy" with us?
Last question (a little silly ;-) ), people who go to such track days - do they go all dressed up in full leather suit, shoes etc. from home or do they change at the track? Just a little concerned about the kind of looks I will get from various people/kids in my locality if that's how I leave my home.

Although I'm not the right person to consult for this event, but I'll answer all that I can.

Yes, for those who do not have a suit, can use the one available with organisers, but by sharing it means you can't claim "not" to share it with anyone else for that day.

I wouldn't know that, but if it is Snell or Dot approved they for sure it's FIA approved. For more on this you can contact the FIA representatives in India. The contact details are available on their website.

You can contact redline racing store for suites, previously (around 6 months ago) it was 3000Rs, don't know what's the rent now. But they don't provide boots or gloves.
Regarding the documents, do we actually need to carry our "Personal insurance/mediclaim policy" with us?
You can check with the your nearest KTM dealer, they would surely know better about his. Usually for Track days I've never been asked for this.

I take my car and bike along(obviously not driving both), change there, do the session and change back and ride back home. With temperature rising, it's better to take your suit along with you. But otherwise, don't worry about the look. The express way doesn't have many people waiting by to stare at you, so you wouldn't be bothered for sure.Last edited by R-series; 04-13-2015, 05:14 PM.Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Well, I did participate in the KTM Trackday at Coimbatore: Kari Motor Speedway which was held on March 15th. The track officials are very strict about the dress code. My gear was a LS2 helmet, Cramster Jacket, Knee guards and Gloves. First, did not allow me to participate as I did not have the appropriate riding boots. ( There were almost 15 riders who were not allowed ) They also did not have any option of renting. ( I was wearing high neck Woodland Boots ). I borrowed the boots from a rider who finished his laps in the first batch. They asked me to first sign a stamp paper document and Driving Licence for verification. Mediclaim or Personal Insurance was not asked.
Well, at first we feel angry that they did not allow us, but guys trust them. Its for your own safety. There were guys on in each batch crashing up and being carried away injured and that too they had full gear. I think 5 guys crashed up in total. 4 Duke 390 and 1 RC 390. Not too sure of the number of guys who were unfortunate.
Let me tell you guys, If you have never been to the track; then you are in for a surprise. It is a totally different experience. I am an ACE rider, been riding and driving since when in was in 5th standard and can challenge anybody on the road. But on the Track, I was next to ZERO. Anyways, it is definitely something you should not miss if given the opportunity. Check out the Trackday Pics below.
Guys, Dont be misguided by the fourth pic. You can see all of us pushing the bikes to the Start line. You can also see my woodland boots and other guys with sports shoes. They do the inspection at the start line and that is where the guys with improper safety gear were sent back. In the next pic where I am riding alone, if you zoom in you will see that I have the riding boots on now.Last edited by Liveforpower; 04-17-2015, 07:26 PM.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
^^ Thank you R-Series and LiveforPower. I appreciate your response.
I am still trying to follow up with dealers to register myself. Looks like most of them have already sent the list to KTM.

So we can still get injured even after wearing full gears? I understand that nothing is completely safe but still, aren't we supposed to feel safe wearing full gears?Originally posted by Liveforpower View Post...There were guys on in each batch crashing up and being carried away injured and that too they had full gear.Last edited by B7ACKTHORN; 04-15-2015, 11:21 PM.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
On the straight stretch, I was able to touch around 165kmph ( Kari Motor Speedway is a small track ) and the problem is when we approach the bend, we go in too hot ( too fast) and thats when all goes wrong. I missed crashing up twice myself. Once was at the corner, I came in too fast and was not able to take the turn and almost ran off the road. ( that is where people crash ). Second was on another turn when I downshifted suddenly to second gear and the rear wheel locked-up for a second... HA HA HA that was a scary moment. The rear was suddenly like a fish tail. Luckily I was able to manage.Originally posted by hss View Post^^ Thank you R-Series and LiveforPower. I appreciate your response.

Since you would be approaching certain corners at 110-120 kmph and then if you crash at that speed, Yes you would definitely get hurt even if you have gear. Unless of course not if you are all protected like Stoner or Rossi.
I registered myself a week before the event so you should be able to. I also think there were guys who were not registered and came last moment and got their names added the last minute, not sure about that. Go to the showroom and sit and get it done and then leave.Last edited by B7ACKTHORN; 04-15-2015, 11:22 PM.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
That's a great experience. Learn throttle blipping, you won't get into fishtail. You will get into confident speeds before entering corners.Originally posted by Liveforpower View Postanother turn when I downshifted suddenly to second gear and the rear wheel locked-up for a second

Throttle Blipping is an art! Caution: Master it before you do it on the streets or on your loved steed.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Riding gears are there to give you the confidence to push your bike harder on tracks and ride safely without any accidental spill on roads. Nothing is fool-proof, safety gears are there to reduce the intensity of a fall or crash, that's all they do. Eventually everything has its limit as to what it can do. Positives of mesh/textile products are they are easy to wash, breathable and light weight. A leather apparel, or jacket would hold in more crashes, resist scuffing pretty good, and most of all it will last a life time, provided you take good care.Originally posted by hss View Post

Fabric/textile motorcycle apparel do their job good, that is until you take a spill which in turn rips up (depending on the severity) the outer shell of the textile apparel, which almost renders it useless for the next ride. Textile jackets can take very very very light scuffing when you hit the tarmac, but a leather jacket will hold it's strength and, good news, it should be ride ready for your next trip. But leathers don't breathe so easily, which makes it heavy, and I've known riders who've fainted or have almost lost consciousness wearing leather jackets that aren't breathable coupled with high ambient temperature. And a good breathable leather apparel would cost more than 1/3 of your motorcycle, so textile is a cheap fix.
But, the mantra is this, something is always better than nothing, you never know when you might appreciate a little protection.
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Just did some stickering on my bike. Trying to upload a picture but the damn app does not let me do it.
Oh and the fuel f1r can has mellowed down to about 50 percent of its original which is a good thing and beyond 6k rpm its wicked.
Oh and up for the BIC track day. Let's see.

Fuel F1r: As soon as I was this, I thought it is some kind of fuel additive...
. Googled and found out it is an exhaust. Please post the pics...waiting here. Also please give some details as to the performance and sound results. would be great if you can upload a video of the sound. I am eager to fit an exhaust on my bike but wondering which to choose. I don't want something very loud. I want something which has a deep growl and just a little louder that the stock exhaust. As it stands I am noted for my loud exhausts on my TBTS and don't want to become a nuisance in my neighborhood...
... Waiting for the pics

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Hey my suggesion would be the fuel diablo exhaust. The sound is very deep n bassy. N it's road legal even with the db killer out. But overall I can vouch for the quality. My exhaust was very loud when fitted. But give it some 2000kms break in time. N it will be perfect.Originally posted by Liveforpower View PostFuel F1r: As soon as I was this, I thought it is some kind of fuel additive...

My f1r is now pretty decent loudness wise but strictly with the db killer. And it absolutely growls at high rpms.
Please do check out the sound in YouTube! You can judge it easy that way.
After that if you need the sound clip still from me, I'll oblige for sure!
