Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
The battery cover vibe is a known issue. They would use some rubber mounts, and it should fix that issue.Originally posted by Liveforpower View PostLatest update is my fan is working but not like before. Sometimes I find the fan speed too low. The other day when the HIGH COOLANT TEMPERATURE warning came on; I opened the cover on the tank which houses the battery and fuses to check and see if I have a blown fuse since the fan was not switching on in-spite of the warning. Well, now after putting back the plastic cover on the tank; there is a constant vibration. I tried several times removing and re-fitting and the same plastic vibrations.... I have been using speed97 for quite some time now since there was chocking which I had mentioned in the earlier posts and guess what, the bike is extra smooth and I am kind of missing the roughness.... I am feeling the power reduced... So switched back to normal fuel. I have around 50lts of Speed97 stocked at home since we rarely get this fuel in Coimbatore... Earlier I was craving for it...now I am dreading to use it.
Lol @ 50lts of fuel at home. I do not know how 'safely' you store that kind of fuel especially petrol. And storing petrol for anything more than a couple of weeks tends to go bad.
Stick to normal fuel, and if possible run a tankful with a dose of system g additive or Adon P (should be available at Indian oil bunks)

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Here are a few suggestions considering my similar experience with D390.Originally posted by Liveforpower View PostOkay, Well I am thinking of changing my bike's name from Bubbles to PANDORA'S BOX.

I forgot to mention, I am taking the bike to the SVC on Friday for the complete diagnostic check stuff. Lets see whats up...
1. The part that needs the maximum love in this bike is the Chain. Clean and lube it every 150-200 kms. Since you are in a high heat city, in all probability the chain would dry out fast. Every three days just touch the chain and check if it is dry. Depending on the muck accumulated on it, spray it with lube or clean with diesel and spray lube.
2. Get the spark plug checked at the SVC. My spark plug went kaput due to bad fuel on the D390.
3. Finally use an additive like Adon or System G once every two-three tankfulls. Cleans all the injectors and fuel passages. Do not over use them though.
4. If you ask me, I would say that Stay away from Speed97. I found the fuel too slimy once i touched it. On the filter paper it left a pinkish stain. Well this might be my personal opinion but Speed97 is nothing but normal fuel with octane boosters.
Hope this helps and you sort out all your problems and name her Bubbles again! There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.

anyone knows inside news? waiting period is dropped, does it indicate that there would be updates including slipper C?
Just checked KTM showroom in bangalore. There is no price revision yet. The person said he is 'not' aware if its expected in a few days.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
2000kms complete. The bike is much smoother, driving in traffic is easier and the accelration still makes you go crazy
#goodlife :P
What if I use grease instead of lube? I guess grease will stay longer though it will attract mor dust, but thats okay i guess??

Nope! Grease won't be able to get inside the rings and will only stay on the outer surface.Originally posted by Shantnu View PostWhat if I use grease instead of lube? I guess grease will stay longer though it will attract mor dust, but thats okay i guess??
Ride safe and have fun.

KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Few days back while washing the bike, i saw an oil ring on my front suspension. Googled it up, and saw a video where he takes out the dust seal(which is below the big dustboot), cleans everything up, and slides a film roll through the oil seal. Thought to give it a try before going in for warranty, n voila, it worked.
Ps: as with any diy, do it only if you are familiar with tools and all. Else you could damage the dust seal/shock tube.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Thanks brother for the info on fuel. Well I knew that it could not be stored for too long but after reading the article link you posted I am really angry with my self for buying such a lot
. Well I would use it for my Bullet and stay away from 97 for the 390. It is going to take a really really long time for me to finish that fuel... maybe months cause my usage is hardly 100-200kms a week. Well, experience most of the times come at a price.
The battery cover vibration a really getting on my nerves. I tried removing it and refitting again but it did not work. I will try some kind of rubber padding next time.
Anyone around Coimbatore who wants 97!!! Limited period offer Easter Sale!!!

The battery cover vibe is a known issue acknowledged by ktm itself, just take it to the svc and have it attended to. Further fiddling could result in damaged parts.Originally posted by Liveforpower View PostThe battery cover vibration a really getting on my nerves. That speed 97 seems to have been sitting at the petrol bunk itself for quite for sometime, and now sitting in your garage
Try selling it off to some auto guys at a lower price.

Yes, the battery cover vibration is really annoying but should be a simple fix. Just haven't got the time to fiddle around.
The 97 petrol is fresh stuff, cause I had been following up for almost a month and finally when they got the fuel I went the next day and bought it. Well there are no really great negatives as such about the fuel; its just that the engine becomes very smooth and psychologically I feel the power has reduced maybe due to the smoothness. I kind of like the roughness and engine vibrations cause the power feels more raw when it is rough.
Well, I have seen many high performance vehicle owners who try to use only 97 petrol. There has to be some thing better in it than the normal fuel. Well, for me; I would stick to normal speed available at BPCL bunks. My TBTS is fun to ride with 97 as I feel an immediate transformation and the engine is butter smooth so will use it for her.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
I had posted in the Duke 390 thread about my decision to pick up either a Duke 390 or a RC 390. Based on my requirements most people recommended the Duke. I rode both the bikes and found the Duke only marginally more comfortable than the RC390. My wife is very much in favour of the RC over the Duke. But what's tilting my decision in favour of the Duke is the Slipper clutch. The last delivery of Dukes to Goa were all without the slipper clutch. The KTM representative who called me (issue was a complaint about the dealer) told me that he can make sure that I get a Duke with the slipper clutch. He could not commit on the RC with slipper clutch but said that it will be at least 6-7 months before the RC gets the slipper clutch.
Now my question is "How much better is the slipper clutch?"

I can confidently say its light years ahead in softness. It is as soft as any 150 cc commuter. And no I'm not exxagarating.Originally posted by P3T3R View PostI had posted in the Duke 390 thread about my decision to pick up either a Duke 390 or a RC 390.
