Nice explanation and a very informative post. Just that you should have replied this in the first place instead of mocking others.

Funny how you're teaching me manners, while you were posting that pissing in fuel tank is better ( true most probably ) instead of writing all this. PST is to blame I guess.

I know what 10w40 means and that's why I didn't get those additives. You seem to forget this , and that I just wanted to share what the service manager told me to lure into getting them.

Peace.

Hi guys, I have been using shell advance ultra for almost 3 weeks and here are my observations.
1. In city driving, the engine gets a bit rough, it's not as smooth as stock.
2. Highway is where this oil comes on its own. After 80 the engine is pretty smooth and does not get stained.
3. I don't notice any difference in engine heating than stock oil.

I am thinking of changing to stock oil since most of my driving is in city and I am not enjoying it much.
What are others observations on this oil. How is motul 7100? If touring is your thing shell is good else it's better to stick with stock oil.

Hi brothers!

Saw this handle, indicator (front & back both) mod at one of the Gixxer Sf a few days back.

I just love the genius applied behind the handle mod. Have a look.

Hello everyone..

Nice to be back here posting though i have been following the thread whenver i could..
kannanmr - i'm sad to know your selling ur bike bro..honestly i don't think any roads in india are built for speeds more than 100 - 110 and gixxy goes those speeds comfortably..so..but i concur with your point about feeling the lack of power..wanting more. But it cud be you getting more experienced and wanting more now..you probably have outgrown ur gixxy..pity.
I can tell you though that i faced the same problem wid squeaking noise on disc and my regular bike expert at SVC fixed that problem in a jiffy..he said when we ride nearer to the dividers on city roads and also going off roads, we shud nevr apply disc as extremely fine sand gets into the disc setup and that causes the noise..he opened it up..cleaned it..roughed up the pads and voila! It's got more bite now and noise vanished..probably ur svc is tryng to get money out of u replacing the part..check it out..
All the best for your future endeavours and do keep us posted,.cheers.

debanjant - bro whichevr make of headlamps you choose make sure they do not exceed 30/35 watts as anything more will overheat and may burnout the reflectors and doom..chedk out phillips extreme vision..let us know if you find a fix..
x86 - dude, the company recommended rpm is 1500 but that will mean lesser fuel efficiency considering traffic in cities and lots idle time..optimal and best would be either 1100 or 1200..more to come on that in a bit.

Went in for an adhoc service lst tuesday as it was a day off and i had some minor niggles to attend to..

The night before, i went for a short ride just to destress..about 50kms and wen i got back home, what i saw just shocked me..

The left side of the rear wheel tyre came into contact and rubbed agaonst something and at extremely high speeds i am thinking and this is what resulted...

Sorry about the multi posts i'm still figuring out how to use this app..:sly:

Anyone who might point me in the right direction as to how the hell that happened, are welcome.

Anyway, since it's been 1100kms since my last service i decided to pay them a visit like i said and it was quite a day.

No one at the SVC could even get a clue as to how that could have happened..

I applied my illiterate brain and said it could be the chain..!!

The chain has a tendency to stretch, and sometime evenly. When lubed, if done too much, can have too much play and also if driving in hot sun, further expands...also when there is a pillion, someone on the heavier side, since this bike has mono shock, the bike lowers in centerk and that further can cause the chain to lag...

Ok enough...now, so i said the chain my have scraped the tyre citing them the above reasons..

Guys, I'm planning to buy a bike next month and the Fuel-Injected Gixxer SF-FI is one of the bikes I'm considering (along with the RS200).

I'd like to know at what RPM does the SF do ~100kph in 5th gear? Also, is the bike short-geared or tall-geared?

Thanks.

Retro..

I wud pick sf fi over rs200 anyday...again if i have to..

Refinement is everything my friend...not power..

SF does 85-90 on 6k rpm on 5th gear.,,that's it's sweet spot.,,cruising speed..so 7000 rpm for 100kmph maybe..but ut can easily sit on 100 all da with zero vibes..

The bike has very tall gears...you can ride

You can ride as fast as 75 on 3rd gear and 30 on 5th gear..,superb..it's a boon in cities cos' of fewer gear shifts and thereby longer ECG life..

Anyhoo...continuing on my above post..

The mechanic..the same who screwed it up last tym btw, surprisingly understood the issueand since i wanted chain cleaned and lubed, which svc charges as very nominal 100rs btw, and set the chain absolutely right..for all conditions..

Now, my bike was running rich..I was not happy with it and when asked, the mech said company suggests 1500rpm..but in cities where we ride with ow load on the engine and lotsa idle time..so i asked him to set it at 1200 but he said 100 wud ne perfect and set it at that..

He used a calculator kinda thing and connected it to somewhere under the right tank behind fairing and set it to the perfect idle rpm of 1100..

Teflon coated and my blue eyed boy was grinning with joy and was eager to go back and hunt the streets again..
