Ok, so here goes an obvious query from my end. Given Gixxer's manufacturer supplied toolkit is pretty basic and useless to perform basic maintenance and repairs for this motorcycle. Can everyone list the complete set of tools required for this bike for regular maintenance and repairs ( I like DIY ) like removing the front sprocket cover, the fairings, spark plug, engine oil nut, removing the wheels, adjusting the suspension, replacing the bulb, tightening the RVMS etc? Like the task from the previous post requires an 8 mm t-spanner, something I don't have and would like to get to clean the front sprocket which I think is dirty, So, I would like a complete list of spanners / t spanners / allen key or allen wrench needed for this bike. This happens to be my first motorcycle, so pardon my noobness in asking thing. I don't mind if someone refers me to a dedicated thread out here listing every necessary tool.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
I used to do long drives like 670kms from chennai to Tirunelveli (my home town) and also return journey in my gixxer sf. I have did this 6-7 times. 300kms Non stop drive at speeds above 90kms. Would this have been the reason for chain and sprockets damage at just 16000kms. ?? I need to know the reason so that will avoid such things to extend the chain and sprockets life. :-). Will be very helpful if someone has answers for this issue. Thanks in advance. [emoji106]

Yup bro trying to get the kerosene but not finding it. Since i dont have ration card in Chennai. [emoji12] [emoji23] . So have to ask someone to get kerosene for me from ration shop. Still finding that deivam..!!! (GOD).Originally posted by presidency View PostBro use kerosine instead of diesel. I know this has nothing to do with the prob yo faced, but diesel is not recommended for chain sprocket cleaning. Kerosine is more viscous and good cleaning agent.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Replacing chain and sprockets after 15,000+ kms is what is normal I guess. I mean, I am not much sound about all this. But it varies from person to person based on riding style etc, but mostly around then. The best way to check is the sprocket teeth. If its triangular / pointy then it needs replacement. They don't cost as much as others mentioned here. Also, the stock tyres may need replacements around then too. So you have nothing to worry.Originally posted by Sushil1991 View PostI used to do long drives like 670kms from chennai to Tirunelveli (my home town) and also return journey in my gixxer sf. Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Yes Buddy All the excessive amount of lube with all dirt particles get stuck at sprocket area. In past i have uploaded the video on my channel to How To Clean & Lube Chain Sprocket Of Gixxer 155 & SF.Originally posted by Sushil1991 View PostUsefull info for all gixxer owners. Infact for all bike owners.
I have been cleaning and lubing my chain using diesel and Autofox chain lube at regular intervals without fail. I used always used to monitor my chains and sprockets once every 2 days. Hence the chains and the rear sprockets used to look perfect and well lubed.
But one fine day the chain link got out when i was riding in highway. Then after showing to the nearby mechanic he put another o ring chain link and joined the chains. Then the problem became worse. There came a sound "Kadak Kadak" from the front sprockets. When riding at low speeds and the same sound would reduce at high speeds.
Then went to the Service center for inspection they checked and told the sprockets are week and needs to be replaced. (16,340 km in the odo meter). The charges would be around 2000rs they told.
Then I came home with questions. Why did this happen inspite of regular clean and lube of chains. Then i noticed the front sprockets by removing the front sprocket cover and saw they were worn out. The cover was covered with lubes and sand.
So you guys should keep in mind that whenever you clean and lube your chain remember to remove the front sprocket cover and clean both sprockets and chain for 100% completion.
After which I replaced the sprockets kit along with chain set. Bought it from SMK suzuki, chennai for 1469rs. (Front & Rear sprockets along with chain). Gave it to a nearby local mechanic and got it fixed for 200rs as labour charge. So total 1700rs for the whole process. Attached pictures for ur reference. Stay happy Ride Happy. [emoji106] [emoji4]

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Hi guys , just compeleted 500KMS on my new gixxer sf sp edition , and there is sound coming from engine while i cold start the bike. Is it normal with every new gixxer sf or there is bigger issue with my bike? And the idle engine rpm is set to 1000rpm , checked with one of my friends gixxer it was set to 1500rpm. Could that be the issue?

Guys sorry to say, but 16K is too small for a chain on this bike. THis bike has only 14 hp... its negligible for a chain!
I have a friend with 24K on his bike and he has normal chain and sprocket.
Ideal maintenance for chain is to clean and lube it every 500km. Even less if you ride a lot in hot places(like chennai) or dusty places like off-road trails. You cannot look at a chain and tell if it needs oiling. its about the sound. Speed up to 30 in 2nd gear and pull in the clutch. It should be a smooth sound, not like bicycle chain going backward. If it sounds like cycle chain, your chain is dirty and dry.
The max you can lube your chain without cleaning is once. Do NOT give local people for chain cleaning as they use WD40 or other rust removers which is corrosive and bad for chain, petrol is perfectly fine though. Best is kerosene, or a can of chain cleaner. DO NOT SIMPLY POUR CLEANER AND WIPE OFF. The main part are the rubber rings which you can see on the sides of the links when chain is clean. This should not have any sand or anything sticking to it after you clean it.
Let the chain dry for atleast 5-10mins before lubing. When lubing do not spray it on the outside (e.g from the back, onto the sprocket) Spray it on the inside faces of the chain. This will make sure lube reaches the O seal rings. Do not use engine power to lube as it will fling the lube off before it goes inside. Rotate by hand and apply. You will save lube and cleaner also. Let it dry for 15min(or whatever the can says) and using hand power, rotate the wheel and wipe off excess lube from chain. Do not worry, the oil is INSIDE the o rings, anything left on the metal part of the chain is useless.
Clean the front sprocket every 4 months ( or every 2 months in rainy season). You dont need to do this very often if you dont overlube your chain.
Last thing.... if the round spacers are black... make sure they dont have any sand/dust sticking, this will cause corrosion on sprocket. Also, make sure sprocket does not have any lube sticking on it.
EXCESS LUBE IS BAD AS IT WILL ATTRACT SAND/DUST AND PROMOTE CORROSION!

Although i have not felt the need since the max i have ridden without stopping is 150kms (pune- mumbai), i felt my suspension was too hard. Since i barely weigh 60kg, i had them raise the suspension to make it softer. Now its a blessing. Now, finally, I can actually feel the back shock compressing after breakers hahaha.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Not at all. HIDs are illegal only if you do not use it with a projector. Because of the projector, the beam spreads perfectly. It does not even touch the bottom of rear windshield of a car whatever distant it may be. I dont think there is any better replacement for stock headlight other than this. Are you sure? last time i checked, any modification other than stock specification parts(like using 35w halogen replacement legally) is illegal and any modification has to be registered with the dept of transport and mentioned in your bikes registration form. I guess the cops are just relaxed more now a days?
Plus do let me know about the longevity of these chinese parts! I have a philips extreme vision 4300K 35W and its doing fine for me since i have the light adjusted to correct height.
