I Was a quiet spectator for a long time but now its time to talk What a bike! Such a smooth motor, can do 80-90km all day long Just had a small query! How do you calculate the mileage of a bike? For example my daily commuting distance is 54kms and i have crossed 1300km on the speedo. Im calculating the mileage by filling a fuel of Rs 500 and getting only 225km(30KM/L) on the speedo even though the majority of my commuting distance is highway. Ofcourse im not revving that hard and follow all fuel saving tips! Just a doubt. Is the way im calculating the mileage correct or am i getting a low mileage and show the Service centre to tune the carb? Thanks !

Fill the fuel tank full and set a trip meter to zero soon after.
When the bike hits reserve fill the tank to full again and note the amount of petrol filled on the station pump and distance covered on the same trip meter.
Mileage= amount of petrol filled/ reading on the trip meter.
Done this a couple of times, getting about ~41km/l mileage with mixed riding.

        You can also
Fill to full tank, set trip meter to 0.
        Ride 100kms or so.(upto you)
Fill to full tank again and calculate mileage as mentioned earlier

Re 150cc bike sales split : I find it very hard to believe people would still opt for an Apache over the FZ, Unicorn, Gixxer, Hero CBZ/Hunk etc. WHat is the the source of motorbeam ?

Apache is not a bad bike. New apaches are great.

I usually do it with a reserve to reserve method. Set your trip meter to 0 when you hit reserve.
Fill up for 1 lt and check the trip meter when you hit reserve again. This will give you perfect mileage calculation.
              Hope this is correct.

How much do you guys get? Well when im on reserve i fill fuel for a certain amount and calcualte the number of litres and then i reset the trip meter and when it comes back to reserve i just calculate the total distance by the number of litres of fuel? Is it a proper way? Because i get approx 30-35kmpl by this method :/

In Reserve to Reserve method I get around 46 to 51 km/lt in Bangalore traffic conditions. Still not hit highways. hope to do it soon!!

Ask the SVC guys to do it, they have the required tool.
I'm planning on it too. It's on 3 currently but thinking of changing it to 4 or 5.

For past 10 years there has not been a single change to its engine just cosmetic changes

                            Dear Owners,
is this bike good enough for busy city riding @ speed of 40-50 ? or this bike is for highway only speeding 70+? any issues maneuvering in traffic? Thanks!

It is good for both but the riding position is a bit uncomfortable for me. The handle bar is a bit too wide and foot peg is awkward. What I mean by foot peg is the riding position a slight lean towards the front but the foot peg are flat/straight. Unknowingly you tend to press down the breaks often.

Yes the bike is good for busy city riding. maneuvering may take a while getting used to. I too frequent between 40- 60, the sufficient pick up and front disc help at stop-go traffic. Trust your bike with what you want to do, and it will obey.

So I have a confusion here.

The manual/ booklet states our reserve fuel capacity is 2.4 L. It also states that, when the fuel levels drop below 3L, the fuel mark on the display starts blinking, moreover when it further drops below 1.2L the fuel bar as well as the mark will blink, which I recently experienced too.

                                My confusion here is, if

(#1.) I keep riding with the FUEL ON mode, never switching to RESERVE mode, why would the display indicate less than 1.2L mark? Theoretically, unless I dont switch to the RESERVE mode I shouldn't be able to consume the reserve fuel which is 2.4L and ideally the bike should hit a hault when in ON mode (owing to the fact that reserve fuel is inaccessible in ON mode.)

(#2.) If I keep riding in ON mode till the fuel exhauts and the bike stops, what amount of fuel will be remaining as reserve fuel under RESERVE mode?
