I faced two slight skidding incidents due to sudden braking, i have never faced this with pulsar 150 , since the tyre tread pattern was different. Now i am looking at changing the tyre, heard about CEAT vertigo, i plan to retain the same size as suggested by suzuki. Please throw in suggestions, current odo reading is 2000 kms. The subject here is the rear tyre
Before changing tyre there is a small adjustment you can make to prevent wheel lock up. Increase the play of the rear brake by turning the nut 2-3 times in counter clockwise direction. This will not reduce the brake force but will increase the play and may prevent unnecessary wheel lock ups resulting in skidding. My ODO reads 6400 kms and have never faced such issue in rainy conditions, but have intentionally made bike go sideways to check the if rear brake is set too hard by counter steering. Even if you change to softer tyre, unless we apply brakes gently using both front and rear ,wheel will lock up.

As Worrisomebear said Michelin M45 will be the best soft compound tyre.

Though the procedure doesnt look like DIY.
Dude you must be having half clutch settings, tell any mechanic to make it full clutch automatically your gear shifts will become much softer & easier.

Try it its no big deal & jus nuts & bolts adjustment

      • Thanks i will look into Michelin M45. I would like to know any trusty dealers for this tyre in chennai? I always use the combination of breaks and was surprised to see tyre skidding. Will look into brake adjustment also.

Is michelin m45 available for our Stock Tyre Size? What is our Stock tyre size?

Yes. Michelin M45 is available in Stock Size of GSR which is 100/90 18".
I have fit M45 in my GS. I am satisfied with it's Performance.

If you want to know trustworthy Dealers in Chennai, send an E-mail to Mr. Gaurav Lal at [email protected]. He's a Manager at Michelin and will guide you in the right direction.

Yup i have half clutch settings,
Use the bike with clutch pressed half way all the time in the traffic jams

I'll give full clutch a try and see if the gear shifting improves,
But i have doubts whether i'll be able to manage in bad traffic with full clutch.

The full clutch setting is really a pain in traffic. On each service the clutch is set to full which only have a play of 10-15 mm, it has play in the first quarter and it strains our fingers in no time. I adjusted the clutch to around half of the clutch, is this what people call half clutch? I noted that on full clutch and half clutch position the rear wheel is turning in the same speed. Now my clutch is set to full clutch and still the rear wheel is turning and no notable change in gear shifting.

Today while in service centre I asked everything in detail and they said it is set as recommended by Suzuki. This wont cause a problem to our clutch! Let's see how much is true !!!

                  • Just after my posting here, my belief the stock tyres improved as i had to swerve to the right all of a sudden when a cyclist in my front moved to the right in front of me, bike obeyed me conveniently, it did what i wanted to do and stayed on the road,(i swerved to the right with hard braking, both brakes pressed hard) it was just like walking, we can control us while walking right? it was a similar experience, i am gng to stick with stock tyres for a while due to this incident, but M45 is there in mind. This bike is so awesome, i am gng for my 2nd free service tomorrow, will post an update then.

                    • Yes Anupdas.....my bike doesnt turns its rear wheel on put on central stand in neutral at idling.
Gearshifts are smoother than anything smooth that my left leg is accustomed to,like just relax and turning my feet in air........ truely.
Ok I will ask my mechanic what he did on my bike to correct the "Hard Gearshift" in his language

Ok,apart from this I encountered a mysterious incident with my bike in the morning,
My throttle was feeling a bit hard and uneasy this morning, and added to this a Pulsar180 and a Zeus wanted some dragging stupidness on public roads,so in order to give a glimpse of my GSR,smoked them top to bottom
But what happened after this was that I felt my throttle being easy again and the Speedo that was disconnected started to work !!!!!! and that too it showed 14kmph at standstill !!!!
On increasing speed it registered around 40kmph max.......as I was riding very slowly, below 3500rpms after this awkward and startling incident. Then I stopped at a business centre, finished my work and got on my ride again.Throttle was ok after this and speedo was back to its normal state, thats Okmph......but the odo also worked and from 7kms it went upto 13kms.then it stopped again.Stupefied by this incident and angry for not letting my bike to run normally with speedo on,I rang up the Dealer and slanged him filling up his ears with words even the hooligan would detest

Later on after I cooled down and told him of the incidence,he said to me,its the problem with the RTO office.
They register a bulk of Hero Hondas first, followed by Bajaj, then TVS, then Yamaha and at last Suzuki bikes. So I have to wait for my serially filed file.

I now feel like burning some govt vehicles down

However after all these,I am still in mystery what actually happened with my Bike !!!! I hope this RTO issue gets over soon...or it would be trouble for those sneaky Sonofa's
                      Hell's Angel

Even mine is not turning when its in neutral but it turns when its in first gear with clutch fully pressed . Both service engineer and local mechanic said its not possible to fully stop the rear wheel from turning. The service engineer said as long as we can stop the rear wheel by applying a little force its OK. Usually the bike will have its own weight and this will not effect the performance of bike.

That's what I was trying to say earlier, happy to know you realized it so soon. The stock tyres MRF Zapper is a kind of hard component tyre which lasts more than 25K kms. But it does have ample grip to ride on tarmac. Still I insist to increase the play of rear brakes.

When ever we brakes the weight shifts to front. If we start from gentle application of front brakes, the additional weight shifting increase the pressure applied to ground by the front tyre and bike slows down quickly. If we apply full brakes all sudden the weight transfer is rapid and the front tire wont have necessary grip and leads to wheel lock up. Now for the rear brakes the weight is taken away from them so they are literally making little contact with ground and in slippery conditions a full rear brake can easily lock the wheel. This is main reason why rear brakes have smaller disc's and some are providing only drum brakes. GS is provided with just what it requires.

in my opinion GSR has its own style and look why i need to make it look like Apache.

Any way its yours keep it as a GSR and do sticker work to make it unique like you

am from Bangalore haven't done any major sticker work

                          • 1. Please inspect my spark plug. I think the composition or air and fuel is good. cos it was not very black or white. it was some kind of hot rod color. But there was some orange color liquid kind of thing. which came in my hand too. if its oil im screwed. but can it be sediments from petrol ? i mean impure petrol right ?

                            2. I tried much to stop the wheel movement. but nothing works. if i stop with foot it stops but after two secs its start spinning again.

                            3. This morning starting trouble killing me. its actually starting but after sometime it stops abruptly like someone removed the oxygen mask. petrol prob i guess. Did anyone cleaned the carb ?

ya i hope so ,city like chennai highly possible for impure petrol,
you currently running Gulf 4T plus or some other oil? I run less than 1000km after changing to Gulf 4t plus ,thanks for recommend that oil to me , bcos after changing to Gulf 4t .the 3.5k Vibration or resonance gone...yesterday only i noticed it bcos its known thing not so much worried abt it..
For me the bike started in first kick or self start(won't do mostly) ,but due to temperature drop it takes time to settle for optimum temperature so the bike has to revved for some 30 seconds
Can we adjust vavle to well good local mechanic ,since my SC is helpless and my main SC told me to come ,to solve the valve noise problem ,but more than 1 month ,he not picking my phone too...
