I needed some information from the gurus like Vishnu/Mach on clutch less gear shifting, especially its effect in our bike.
I tried to upshift without clutch once or twice and it was so effortless and felt awesome but I am not practicing it regularly until I know how to do it properly.
I know some of you are doing that for some time now so just wanted to know your inputs on the same.
It would be helpful if you guys can help with the proper RPM levels where this kind of shifting needs to be done.
I tried to shift at around 3-3.5k rpm and it felt flawless!!!
Does this have any adverse effect on the engine's life?

After my 7th service on 30th sept, I went to my hometown by GS. While on the way to home(200KM) i rode the bike mostly 70-80KMPH and occassionally till 90 due to NH7(
). It given me the 53 mileage.
While coming back from hometown I rode the bike in splendor mode (mostly between 50-55KMPH and occassionally 58KMPH), it is given 64KMPL
including 50KM driving in Hyd traffic.
Total this trip odo shows 1190 KM's with 21.4 liters of petrol. And this trip constists all type of roads like 4lane National Highways, 2lane State Highways, single lane roads, gravel roads and bad roads with pillion rider 80% of the time.
In the mean time i crossed 10,000 KM's on my GS ODO in 12 days short of 1 year.

Even i have experienced the same......its a technique used for by racing professionals.....and while gradually accelerating 3.5-4.5 k for upshifting and also while accelerating 3.5-4.5k for down shifting too.....i rode the bike clutchless for about 61 kms......with gradual shifts occuring many times(traffic and road conditions...)...though the bike performed well, I was S&^& scared of it.....(couldnt help doing this out of compulsion as i was mid way to mumbai and the clutch cable snapped!).....Originally posted by ashoka_bnglr View PostCongratulations to all the new GSpians ..

However,This is bad for the transmission and should only be used as an emergency method to get home if the clutch cable snaps, and is definitely NOT recommended......

It is another subject of endless debate as engine oil. Up shifting can easily be done at any rpm if the bike has sufficient momentum to move forward. Down shifting is a little more difficult unless you practice to do it.
In my opinion, it is safe to up shift from 1st gear onwards and down shift up to 2nd gear. Shifting down to neutral is trickier as there is a possibility of going down to 1st gear which needs more practice.
Correct rpm and proper blipping of accelerator is the decisive factors. If done properly, it is safer than shifting in the normal manner.
Experience is the greatest teacher. As I said many times earlier, both the bike I have are not facing any problems. And remember that most of us are not fully disengaging the clutch while we shift up or down.
Practice and do it only if you are sure that it is a correct procedure. Otherwise the thought that it is affecting the bike will begin to haunt you and you will begin to suspect any sound from the engine/gear box as the result of clutchless gear shifting.
