How does your bike feels now.,i mean the engine..
Is it still strong with no vibrations?...
The bike was used 2 years before I started using it. I suspect that the bike was improperly run-in. I get a maximum FE of 50kmpl average despite very sane riding although in city traffic. The engine and transmission are very smooth but problems as with the earliest batch of bikes, the engine makes a loud noise when accelerated hard. As for vibration, right at 4k RPM, I feel vibrations at the footpegs. Rusting has set-in but I dont have any of the other documents of the bike to ask for a replacement. As soon as I get the new bike, I plan to get it repainted.

      • I have one query,

Since my registration no. have come yet, from which date does Suzuki considers 1 Month for 1st Servicing, is it date of purchase (Date on Challan) or Registration Date?

        • When you buy a new vehicle, usually showroom guys will tell us to maintain lower rpm’s for mileage. But if you drive in lower rpm’s for very long distances the engine will get used to lower speeds permanently. Later if you push to higher speeds you may experience vibrations. Don’t get stuck to lower rpm’s. Concentrate on engine heat. You can push to higher rpm’s upto you feel the heat of the engine in your legs. Maintain that speed. As the heat reduce day by day you can increase the speed. It takes 4000 kms for engine to adopt to your driving style completely. If you need just performance and you don’t bother about mileage, then just race your bike and burn up the streets from the very beginning stage..

Please somebody comment about this..Is it adviceable to do like this while in run-in period?
If that persons experience is correct.,will it be the cause for vibrations in GS too?.. ie..vibrations b/w 3.5k to 4.5k rpm or is it just b'cos of the soft spot & hard spot of the engine?

From the date of delivery.,, You dont need to wait for a month.. If you complete 750 kms in a single day you can do the 1st service the next day itself also.. ie. either 1month or 750kms which ever is ealier

yeah,my bike had such a problem vibrations at exact 3.5k rpm irrespective of any gear.that was very slight and almost negligible vibes coming from the engine.i had felt that upto 3K ot 4k odo after the second service done ,i never felt that again in my bike which is 20000k odo.2009 batch bikes had hard spot at 3.5 rpm but if i am correct there is no such problem with 2011 and earlier batch bikes.no need to bother about that i think suzuki had rectify that issue.

                I understand.

I am not sure i would complete 750km in a month as my office is just 6km away from my home. so maximum, 600 km could be completed so just relying on 1 month for 1st service.

I have ride much, only on weekends, by odo shows 134km (thats too w/o registration no.)

ya, thats true, there are no vibrations at 3.5K rpm, just one thing that bugs me is that it changed its firing sound past 4.5k rpm... i hope it will adapt with time.

                    • 1st service

going to give my GS for 1st service (1 month service).
                      2 questions for you.

                      1. Should I spend some extra money and go for MOTUL engine oil or go on with ordinary suzuki oil?

                      2. Does the suzuki service station guys do all the service excercise mentioned in user manual? Like each parts to be checked and lubricating, bolt tightning, cleaning of internal parts etc etc.(I really doubt it) Or just wash bike and give it back?

                      thanks in advance.
                      High Hopes......

For the first question go with either castrol or So called suzuki oil, reason let the oil be bit bad because that's good for the engine to settledown and your next oil change (service ) is not tooo far away.

For your second question, Good or bad all it depends up on the dealer and service enginer mindset.
Only you will come to know after the first service.

                          No repainting the old bike.

If you have lots of cash to spend then teflon coating is good. But otherwise, invest in a good quality wax and use it every week or so(preferably after every wash). It is as effective as teflon coating if not more. Use a microfibre cloth to buff the wax coat to prevent uneven distribution and scratches.

All the works except adjusting the valve clearance, testing CO, inspecting race bearing kit and wheel bearing etc which are not absolutely necessary are usually done at the time of first servicing as this servicing is most crucial. Need not be bothered about it.

The 3.5k resonance is common in every GS and it is not at all related to the running-in.

1)stick to svc oil.because of two reasons(a)they will not allow to pour outside oil, says it voids warranty(b)in any case blindly use svc oil(castrol only not the bpcl/hpcl/savoil) for first three services, than after wards you can use your own oil.

2)mechs have time bound activities(bike services) assigned by management.so they hardly take all/extra acts provided in the manual,so keep it in mind to enlist them the probs you are facing, and get them rectified.

suggestion:make sure to write ur registration number on the back of removable stuff like seat, side panels with 6 speed written with permanent marker, just to be on safer side.

Try to be friendly with the mech how is servicing your bike(most of us know it)
