Please somebody comment about this..Is it adviceable to do like this while in run-in period?
If that persons experience is correct.,will it be the cause for vibrations in GS too?.. ie..vibrations b/w 3.5k to 4.5k rpm or is it just b'cos of the soft spot & hard spot of the engine?
I think that article is only partially correct. As far as I know riding at constant RPM during run-in period is not advisable, be it low or high RPM. Also, if you ride it in a harsh manner or higher RPM then the future FE of the bike will not be very pleasant at lower RPMs in which most of our daily riding takes place. In short, ride across the whole RPM band but do not keep the RPM constant. Another aspect is the usage of gears- please use all gears and shift at appropriate RPM(some people ask you to not to ride in higher gear dont believe them). Do not expose the engine to stresses like riding at very low speeds in higher gears and vice versa. Also change the engine oil as per recommended during run-in.

Since you're going to repaint your old bike.,i've some little suggestion to go for nice stickering work instead.
Here i've attached a picture from another bike forum..

Please avoid that engine guard as it prevents the free flow of air to the engine to cool it. That peculiar Dazzler may perhaps be oil or water cooled, but our GS is air cooled.

Thanks for the suggestion friend. But I want to get it painted because of rusting since stickers won't help prevent that.

The glue on some stickers themselves could cause rusting.

              • I mostly ride at a speed of 45-50 in 6th gear since my bike is in run in period, one of my friends said if you do that way in future you will lose your bikes top speed. Is this true???Not worried about top speed right now, just wanted to know.

                • @msb that is myth, fact is the ride your bike under 5krpm for the first 800km,<7.5krpm upto 1600km and do not rip, ride and smoothly and safely. This will make your bike run longer yielding good mileage.

                  • @vishnukmd,

The difference between motul and castrol is the same difference between pepsi and coke

Both have almost same content (secret recipe) but the taste is different
Some like pepsi and some like coke.

Reason no 101: During initial runin period oil change interval is less kms, so instead of buying a everywhere available oil its not wise to search and buy motul at that point of team.

                    @ msb,

Tell your friend that you are a commuter and you have a commuter bike.

Any way my answer for your doubt is No, it won't affect the top speed.

For more info google to check the gear ratio of any 150cc bike

After reaching 32 kmph I used to be on 6th gear.

I know how deep and vast your knowledge is about engine oils. But my question was not about the taste of coke. Please read it again.

                            • Oops, posting from blackberry spell checker corrected it as team instead of time.

I was trying to tell this.

The base content of both castrol and motul are same, but somehow motul performance make the users say W0W

may be the easters in it or their own patent right additional ingredients makes the bike perform well.

Castrol is not bad oil, but it has many clones (duplicates) and castrol is good but motul is excellent (my own experiance on GS)

Let's come back to the point.

In a city like bangalore also getting motul is not an easier task like getting castrol from street corner automobile shop, moreover I believe the kms / days gap between first service and second service is not so far (i-e not 2000 kms) so instead of searching for motul use the castrol.

Ordinary or so called svc oil help a lot in allowing engine parts to mate and letting the run - in happen smoother.

Always my initial run-in period Engine oil vote goes to either castrol or any normal oil.
