The engine will vibrate all it's life if you don't revv it up.
I don't know what's the issue with people following RPM limits strictly.
No manual says your engine will be damaged if you ever exceed the specified limit.
The manual also mentions 'avoid prolonged usage' above a certain RPM for 1st 500kms. And so on for the next 500kms.
Try to revv smoothly through the gears when the engine is warm. And DON'T lug the engine in any particular gear.

Gollum: FYI. My bike has NO vibes in ANY RPM range.
Please don't ask me what kind of run-in I did. It will lead to many 'knowledgeable' owners debating it and the thread will lose it's purpose.
😀
I came out of the WhatsApp group for the same reason.

Run-in.

The most overhyped and useless part of motorcycle ownership.

Yeah, I left the Whatsapp group for the same reason.
I don't care about the vibrations as the power compensates for all issues

What mileage have you done so far? and what fuel efficiency do you see on the dash?

Hey guys, back after a long period of inactivity lol. Run-in is given too much importance. I didnt religiously follow the process in my case. Initial run in for the first 1k km is 7k rpm and then till the next 600km, it is 8600 rpm. I have touched 10k in short spurts and this wont hurt the engine at all. The key is to be smooth on the revs and not lugging the engine in any gear. Also, do not contantly stay at a single rpm for more than a minute or so. You want the piston rings to scour the entire cylinder so that the seal is complete and there isnt any blowback. My bike is very eager and the sound has changed completely from how it was. Sounds better than a ninja 650 now if you ask me .

I ended up detailing her a week back. Here is a picture:

The run-in thing is fine, I am just worried about the vibes getting under the seat which is very unsettling. Most of my riding is in city only as this is my only bike here in bangalore, I take her to office everyday. I dont know whether the dealership will be able to help me or not. Most of us dont really get a chance to take the test vehicles for a longer ride, so didnt experience this at all on the Test bike, but I find it hard to believe people saying this is the smoothest twin in the segment. Is there anything that I should do in terms of riding style?

Hey Shank, the main thing here is that vibes are present. When someone says no vibes, there is a difference from person to person on how sensitive they are. I feel the vibes in the lower and higher rpm (4k and 7k) after which it is smooth. Key is to not ride at a single rpm for a long time since vibes get pronounced due to resonance. I changed my riding style a bit and now i feel the vibes have gone down quite a bit. Another thing you could do is get good foam grips for handle bars. For vibes under the seat, i really didn't feel any.

Well guys, thanks a lot for your replies.. Will surely check them out. I think I'm already sold on SOL metal man. But I'll check others as well. I do a lot of night riding and also in rains. So functionality will take first importance. Will be taking the delivery of bike tomorrow evening from Bangalore Wheels. Anything to check in particular apart from regular PDI?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can just ignore the vibes for the time being and ride it well in some highway and complete the first service. Pour some new oil and see if it makes some difference. These vibes and heating can occur within the first 1000 kms. You can try to avoid traffic and ride the bike in highway to have it run in properly, vary the rpms etc.
The vibes will settle to a great extend. Mine is close to 6k kms and in second service I used Motul 7100 10W40 and after few hundred kms, the bike is very smooth. The vibes I was getting was only in certain rpm (4.5 -6) Nowadays I don't feel any vibes that I should be worried. I have ridden N300 and you can't compare with it which has slipper clutch, it is definitely smoother and after riding N300, I was happy with my decision to buy R3.

Close to 5K kms.
29-30kmpl on 2 lane below 100.
30-32kmpl on 4 lane cruising at 110-140kmph.

Not sure about city, I use my R15 more.
It should be 22-25 I guess.

Entirely agree! Someone told me my bike sounds very gruff too!

Same here! That Ninja engine and gearbox seem more refined. And the bike is more agile to enjoy in twisties or city.
If I were to sell my R15, it would be a good all in one bike.
But on highway, R3 feels a little more powerful and definitely like a bigger bike to tour on.
I too tried it only after getting my R3, and posted my comparison review here.
And I am happy with my decision too. ☺

Looking at R3 as my next bike . went to orion motors bangalore in front of forum mall , koramangala . But they are not offering test rides and are also least interested in selling the bike . Any one from bangalore can you please let me know where in bangalore i might be able to get a test ride of the bike ?

Im looking to buy the R3 for leisure weekend rides , is this a good bike for that ? also does the lack of ABS a big issue , as i have not ridden any bike with ABS im not sure.

As yamaha considers this motorcycle as premium they find it hard to give the test rides. As per the ABS,If you have never experienced ABS first hand then you won't find the need for one.If you survived without ABS up till now then you will surely be happy with R3.BTW R3 has some good engine braking and brakes to keep you rock solid.ABS is too much over rated.

Only for ABS:
I was on Bannerghatta road going next to a BMTC AC Bus on the left side moving at a speed of 10~KPH
A person suddenly stepped in front of me. I braked!!!
The front wheel locked as I was on the dirty part of the road covered with fine mud/sand.
The bike came to a halt after covering close to a meter with the front wheel still locked.
However, the bike did not go left or right but went just straight.
I had a pillion rider with me too and we both were pretty scared. Pillion was scared for her life, I was scared for my bike.
The feedback from the brakes is very good, something that I hear is not so great with ABS brakes.

I've never driven a bike with ABS so I cannot say how good is ABS.
But Hey! KTM bikes have ABS and some of them still end up in a crash. I don't see ABS saving them. I believe its the rider who needs to be sensible in riding and going at a safe speed.

Gollum thinks KTM bikes are cool and has no hate towards the bikes.
