Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I had a short ride on my R3 aroumd Bangalore town after a week.Had gone my hometown just after buying the R3, so didn't get a chance to ride.I am amazed how a bike can behave like an SUV on potholes laden road. The bike just eats potholes. Also its too hard to keep the RPMs below 7k rpm.The bike masks the speed brilliantly and also no vibrations.Guys hope I can go beyond 7k rpm once a while during break in period? Also guys do you blip or slip the throttle while downshifting on R3?

U can go but do that after the 2nd 500km, but keep it at 7000 rpmOriginally posted by chetan6686 View PostI had a short ride on my R3 aroumd Bangalore town after a week.Had gone my hometown just after buying the R3, so didn't get a chance to ride.I am amazed how a bike can behave like an SUV on potholes laden road. The bike just eats potholes. Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
The manual recommends to avoid prolonged usage above 7K RPM. Doesn't mean you should never enter that zone.
Good break-in needs exposure to all RPMs, and if you ride it at a constant speed or low RPM, the piston and rings will set wrongly.
The bigger mistake is lugging i.e., higher gears with lower speeds.
The bike could even develop lower power than others in the long run.
In short, revv freely through the gears. Restrict continuous top speed as per run-in recommendations. ☺Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Thanks. When i drive around the city its very difficult to go beyond 3rd gear. Will prolonged low speed runs affect the break in procedure? On a side note will it be bad if the entire break in is done within city limits?Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostThe manual recommends to avoid prolonged usage above 7K RPM. Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I'm completing my break-in period on my tnt 300 inside the city... I choose my timing wisely... I don't leave home on peak hours to office and I don't leave office during peak hours... That's the best way you can complete a good run in... Also it's good to very rarely expose your bike to traffic and please make sure it's not everyday.. I've been asked not to cross 5k rpm... But I have pushed it to 6.5k rpm occasionally but stayed there only for a second or two... I try my best to change my gear variations differently everyday... Sometimes I change gear only after touching 5k rpm for every gear and sometimes 2-3k for the first second and third. 4-5k for the rest... So try to keep changing your gear shifting patterns everyday... Make sure your bike undergoes different variations and patterns... Just don't stick to the same kind of a driving style... (This is just for the initial period)Originally posted by chetan6686 View PostThanks. When i drive around the city its very difficult to go beyond 3rd gear. Will prolonged low speed runs affect the break in procedure? No issues. In fact it's good. Just remember using all gears across the rev band. You may have to adjust your office timings a bit to avoid bumper to bumper traffic though!Originally posted by chetan6686 View PostOn a side note will it be bad if the entire break in is done within city limits?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I am doing my break in with two different methods. One in city and another on the highway.
Rev till 8k in every gear. Post 1k km till 1600km, ill do a 11k rpm burst in every gear (except the 5th and 6th maybe) and this will be during my highway run. I have clocked 550km till now so ill touch 8k rpm now and then but not for long.
