neil.jericho: Sad to hear this treatment my friend. If we were in the same city, I would gladly give you my bike for a highway run. Almost everyone on a ride with me has ridden it.

krish2278: Is the RTA number plate affixing not mandatory there yet? My bike came without number plates.

Once I ordered food from swiggy and a guy came in a black gixxer sf and asked me how much mileage I'm getting. When I told him, he was shocked and said "Sir I'm getting 40kmpl easily get it checked with service centre" only then I realised he mistook my R3 for the suzuki. LOL

About 20kmpl in the city and 25kmpl on the highway. The mileage readout in the bike is pretty accurate on the R3. Thought it would be gimmicky.

20kmpl inside city ??? Seriously ??? Is that result of mad rush or sedate riding ?

Shocked because it is less or more? City is above average speeds with bumper to bumper traffic and highway is steady 100-130 kmph with pillion. Once you cross 140kmph the mileage goes down drastically.

Even I'm curious as to what others are getting in the mileage dept. Initially when I was in run in, I got about 23kmpl.

Shocked because of the lesser number, my 600i returns me 19-20 kmpl when ridden sanely inside city (i.e.) maintaning <75kmph. I never managed to test in Highways yet. I for once rode a round trip of short 40 kms, It gave me 23 kmph, again under 100 kmph.

I remember ArnabC telling he got around 23kmpl in city and 32kmpl on highway (cruising at 120-130) after 2nd service..
It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

I currently ride between 5-7K rpm within city.

If I ride sanely without any hard acceleration I should get 24kmpl easily (who has the patience? LOL) but then Bangalore is not Chennai, you are mostly stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Also I feel since the R3 make power earlier, maybe the mileage takes a hit? Are you checking the bike's computer or tankful to tankful method for the mileage?

Others should be able to shed some light.

haha i swear the tail section, i just noticed can easily be mistaken for a gixxer sf.. and FE of 20-23 inside the city?! my friend gets 24KMPL on his ninja 650 inside the city and another friend gets 17-18 on his z800...

Handling charges are illegal, the manufacturer pays that amount and if it's collected from us them it should have questioned. Anyway even I didn't know this before. This raid happened yesterday in kerala. Read below.

n a deft move, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) carried out State-wide raids on vehicle dealers on Tuesday and unearthed an organised racket involved in collecting handling and services charges to the tune of Rs.320 crore from vehicle owners.

As many as 71 vehicle dealers were booked for taking additional money from those taking delivery of new motor vehicles from showrooms and for violating the provisions of the trade certificate issued by the Regional Transport Officer.

That is what I had thought Jacob. But when I called up Yamaha they confirmed that the handling charges need to be paid. This was only for R3 though. Maybe the dealers have notified Yamaha that they will recover transportation charges for R3 being a CKD.

I received a call from the sales lead at Vinayak Yamaha (the same guy who was interacting with Chetan) yesterday regarding my dreadful experience with them on Monday. He patiently heard all my complaints and agreed that they have made a mistake and that it should not have happened. He said the dealership would take corrective action to ensure this is not repeated. He is willing to bring the test ride bike to my place and let me and my wife have a proper long test ride. I will let them know when we are available later this week for the same.

Looks like the Yamaha dealership experience isnt as bad as I originally pegged it to be Good to see this one taking corrective action when they messed up.

Guys, for the record handling charges do not need to be paid. They are 100% illegal, its great to see the Kerala govt clamping down on these unscrupulous dealers. My family booked a Ford Figo and a Honda Jazz this year and both dealerships confidently said that they have to charge handling fees and it is company approved. I collected the right documentation, emailed their customer care and in the case of Ford, posted on their FB page when they called and said that the fees are legal. The Ford guys called me within 10 minutes and got the dealership on the line and waived the illegal fees. Be a smart customer and dont lose your hard earned money. 99 out of 100 customers easily fall for this handling charges trick. Choose if you want to be the 1 or the 99.
