Thanks. In Hyderabad, Kawa doesn't offer TRs. Feel free to chat up with me on 09885671904. Like we used to in the good old R15 days!

• Review of the R3 - points from a very short ride

---The Bike is made to be Loved---

I ride the RC200.. when I sat on the r3 (courtesy Sarvajit ), felt almost like the N650 (yep!!)

consider this from me..

I saw the specs comparo on paper and all.. the RC390 seemd a 100% win for me.. apart from the aggressive posture & small tank - agreed it's made for tracks.. next made the N300 but boring.. but meh.. then the R3.. people telling that the R3 being longer and all.. which is good for stability in the highways..

comparing the paper specs, the r3 just doesn't stand anywhere..

BUT

the transformation is coming AFTER a ride.. yep, my next bike is the R3 (unless BMW launches quality twin machine from TVS stables with fairing)
yep I fell in love with it.. not that I'm complaining my RC is bad, she's a lover.. but more no-nonsense attitude type.. the r3 is more calm and composed.. cool like a sweetheart..

in short - RC = Girlfriend & r3 = Indian Wife.. [emoji14]

so, on my short ride, I did push her a bit and she just didn't complain.. I got used to the "new" straight posture in no time.. lovely bike that.. made me forget all the negatives on paper spec..

people talk about "slipper clutch" why is it used? it's used for racing and high end stuff.. you are not racing.. you are travelling.. why would you NOT use a clutch to down-shift? unless you are like "I'm a racer & love to destroy my bike".. slipper is not a requirement..

ABS?? = meh.. they advise you to "TURN OFF" the ABS on tracks!!! yep.. and the brakes are perfect.. neither overpowered nor underpowered.. just perfect.. ABS not needed..

USD and stuff?? what do you think?? it's an offroader?? (off roading review by s1d a page or two back ) but does the job.. more than enough..

it's a basic-no-nonsense-made to be loved-sweetheart.. as long as you don't trash her, she'll be with you for a lifetime.. that much I can assure you of her quality.. she's not like KTM..
chetan6686 - you did the right thing bro.. follow-up.. coz at the end, YOU are going to ride the bike.. YOU test the one YOU need/want, the one YOU are comfortable with.. not the other way round.. why give up 1000s of kms and years of smiles and happiness just for a few days of stupidity of the sales folks?? you only need the bike & a good mechanic, spares and you are set for life.. trust me..

in short... the bike is made to be loved.. and you simply cannot stop falling in love with this bike..

You guys are facing a lot of trouble just to test ride a vehicle. I feel lucky as compared to you because I was offered one without any trouble. Maybe because it's a newly opened showroom in Navi Mumbai.

If anyone facing issues to test ride R3 in Mumbai please head on to Sakhsi Motors, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

There is no point in riding a Centuro around a race track and judging it as Bike of the Year. No offense to the procedure here, but to me it looks a little out of place.

I was about the say the same. Very good point Archer.

I watched the show twice where they showed the different bikes that were included as a part of the competition.

Believe me it was funny to watch Centuro, Jupiter on the tracks.

I am not against R3 but the moment the jury drove the bike and their explanation clearly showed that it was the winner. I mean I understand R3 is a great bike for track and for city use but why wasn't these bikes driven in city roads.

my 2 bucks here.. the bike hasn't been out here for more than a few months and its already bike of the year.. same pattern repeats every year. why cant they be called the 'new comer of the year' rather than 'superstar' (only rajinikanth is entitled to this title).. you get the drift eh.. ?!

lets stop caring if its the bike of the year or century.. a lot of bikes in the past have been and in the future shall also be conferred such awards, these awards really don't mean much..atleast to me!
all these media reviews already have enough salt and masala added to them.. not good for health!
if one seriously wants to purchase a bike, one should test ride it a few times.. and buy what they feel is apt for them.

If the bike is really good, it doesn't matter whether it got awarded or not.. Forget about the criteria used by the jury.. No one buys a bike just because it got awarded..

What really matters is how it behaves in whatever you intend to use it for, and whether it suits your purpose well.. By now we have a lot of sources/people who have already conveyed that this is an awesome bike in city and for touring and that is enough for the people who intend to buy this bike.. Of course very very few people do track days, but even there the bike has fared well even with tires not well suited for track (MRFs) by being just 1 second slower..

And people who had bad experience with sales persons of some dealer in getting a TR, try to get it elsewhere.. Just don't give up on any bike for that reason.. It's better to do a TR and then decide not to buy, rather than giving up, buying some other bike and regretting later when you ride your friend's R3.. Of course such experiences from dealers are irritating but can't expect everyone to be good to us always.. And it's bad on Yamaha's part that they haven't yet given TR bikes to dealers..

Just my thoughts.. No offence to anyone..

PS: I don't own an R3 ( yet )

It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Hello everyone.

I'm sahil from Hyderabad and planning to get an YZF-R3 any help would be appreciated. Currently riding my yamaha crux 2011.

- would be interesting to know what riding gear you guys are using and from where one can source them.
- Guys one of the R3 dealers from Hyderabad has offered me an extended warranty for 777/- for 3 more years. Can any of the owners confirm this.
- what should be the odo reading at delivery time?
- they are offering me a showroom demo piece saying i won't be getting new unit of same colour and odo is at 22km the bike also has some marks.

Thanks
Sahil

Please don't buy a demo bike.It shows 22km as it has the ODO wirw removed. What did the dealer say? Why no bike?No imports?I would suggest please wait for fresh bikes.

Well the showroom manager reasons saying odo reading is high because it gets tested both outside and here in India its same everywhere. They even have a black unit but its at go-down . Sadly they were not very responsive i had to push them for details they don't even know where the chassis engine numbers are

Stay away! These are the same bikes that have disconnected odometers and you can bet your bottom dollar that the people who have used it as a test bike have really been merciless with it as they want to see what the engine is capable of. I know I did the same when I went for a test ride.

Incidentally for those who are OK to get a demo bike, bargain hard to get a low price. On a FB group, there is a representative of the Harley Dealership in Madras who puts off their demo bikes for sale at a good discount.
