  • Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences

I visited Vinayak Yamaha today and was surprised to find that they were not willing to offer test rides. They said first I need to do the booking for Rs 30K and then they will give test rides. But if I dont like it, I lose 5000 rupees from my booking amount. I didnt even bother checking the bike after hearing their ridiculous policy! I told them to call me if they change their mind and they said they will get back in a few days. A lovely bike ruined by poor dealers.

RC390 is something else my friend. Its actually in true sense a crotch rocket. I cant handle that kind of speed and an over enthusiastic motorcycle.I am still not there !!
BTW i love your CGT thread on the other forum. But the way the tyre issue was handled by RE saddened me.Anyways Kudos for having the most comprehensive CGT review on internet !!!
Thanks, the R3 is Rs 3.85 and the white Ninja is Rs 4.15 (both on road, Bangalore) so the price difference isnt really that huge. The experience with the Kawasaki showroom on the other hand was much better though they didnt have the test bike with them right now. I want to properly test ride all the offerings before finally deciding, if Yamaha dealers stick to their guns then it is automatically disqualified.

Thanks for your words of appreciation on my thread. While I was doing my homework on the CGT, I realised that there werent any ownership threads and so I decided to keep it as updated as possible to help other potential buyers. Good and bad, monotonous or exciting, I keep it updated and it has helped a few people jump onto the RE bandwagon.

Hi Nagoo, been years since we have met. I sold my R15 last year and bought the Continental GT. Now Im looking around, I would want the Yamaha R3 but I dont know if Yamaha dealers want buyers like me! High time we caught up for a ride, let me know.

The article says may be the CKD units imported are all exhausted. Now am feeling paranoid - If the dealer sells me a TD/Demo vehicle. Friends any pointers how to check whether the bike is new and not a demo piece?
Do keep in mind that there is some degree of speculation in the article which may not reflect the situation on the ground. Motorbeam says it is possible that all R3s were sold out in the first couple of months but that doesnt explain how dealers are sitting on inventory and are ready to deliver them immediately.

There are a few points I noticed - Im surprised to see the Ninja 300's numbers go up after the arrival of the R3, it should be the other way round. Are Kawasaki dealers giving discounts to attract potential customers? Also Yamaha selling no big bikes in a month seems unlikely. Notice how the Suzuki S1000 showed a -1 in September, did a owner return the bike to the company ?

The only way I can make sense of this is the numbers are actually dispatches from the company to the showrooms (like how Team BHP reports monthly numbers) and not actual deliveries. This explains pkhammu2005's delivery date as well.

Exactly these are the numbers that Yamaha gave the dealers. Even I got mine on Oct. It was sitting at the dealer for more than a week. I was the first one to buy from Trivandrum. I went there in the first day itself when dealer put up the display bike. Oct end week I got mine registered in RTO, they had to go two days and setup several things since it was the first R3 and RTO records had to be made for this. I guess the dealer might have ordered from Yamaha in September. There were 4 bikes with them and when I went to the first service only they had sold the 4th one that same day, that's more than 3 weeks.

I had called the Yamaha dealer in Hyderabad yesterday for a test ride. He said that he has had no bookings for the bike for the past 3 weeks and so bike is available for a TR.
The waiting period is 10-14 days for a booking. That too he is not sure of the exact time it is going to take.

Has Yamaha already stopped importing the CBUs and started localizing the parts for the CKDs? The attitude of the Yamaha dealers is pathetic here compared to N300 dealers.
My suggestion to all you buyers out there would be to not take a bike with more than 4-5 kms on ODO. You do not know how many TRs were given on it and who took those TRs.
There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.

As far as i know Yamaha R3 is currently locally assembled using CKD kits. I see the drop to 0, may be because of Yamaha exhausting all the CKD units they had imported for sale till October. Thankfully my experience with the dealer has been good till now(fingers crossed.Delivery on Sunday). Actually i would say the experience depends on the sales person interacting with you.

i believe its not coz of one factor.
first , now we have many options in that segment ,unlike when R15 launched there was only one
then, slightly price high of bike and narrow price difference to its rivals
again, this time Yamaha itself not interested in R3 selling in India, as i remember the publicity/promotions no way near to R15 and comp itself is dragging its feet ??
and , some rumors of alloting the R3 to dealers if only they sell X number of other bikes ?? suicide ??
finally, not many going for R3 , only ppl who earlier own R15 or know about yamaha are interested instead of other posers/spoilt rich ppl

what ever the reason, i really feel bad about Yamaha attitude towards R3 , how can they make a winner bike to loose
                Nothing is Impossible ...

Did my first track day. Well, not really. Because true to Lorenzo's misfortune it started raining. But still it was fun and kind of addictive. Thanks to Yamaha for organising this, though it wasn't very well organised. Another thing was they had MRF 150/60 at the rear. Supposedly the ones that come on Duke 200. This was a bit odd. Also the bike felt a little weird post that. But not too much. Any who here are a few photos.

Friends got my R3 yesterday itself as dealer said its ready.Couldn't wait till Sunday.
Didn't take much pics as it was evening. Will post more pics once I do the Pooja today.
I rode it back home in peak traffic hours and though it became hot,it was lovely to drive the beast once the roads opened up.Lovely exhaust and when you are in traffic and between two cars the sound just amplifies and people look back to checkout the bike.Somebody on an active started video recording the R3 on his mobile.Anyways I am too excited like a small kid with a new toy.In love with my new possession. Its truely revving my heart.

There were 22 hairpins. I was with pillion and most of the time I was on 2nd or 3rd gear and it smoothly cornered through the steeps, very planted. Suspension was on default 3#.
