Hi everyone, good to see a lot of happy owners out here. Can anybody tell me if there is any news about the ABS version being launched in India and also the new Matte grey color scheme? Have the 2016 models already started coming in?
    Thank you

How about your thoughts on 390 and R3? And guys, thanks for your advice, no, I am not trading in my 650 for the R3. Please check my post in 650 ownership thread on the new set of mods that I carried out.

      Hey Chinmay,

Yup, had the good fortune of owning most of the fun bikes within the range. Its been wonderful actually, the 390 was a good mad machine to have , but really was always my second option for commutes and tours, tours because the cbr did it better, while the 390 just wanted to be taken higher and harder even when all you want to do is cruise comfortably at 120 or so, the sense of urgency just wasn't all that attractive from a touring perspective, now the city part, just one case, Bangalore Traffic, on weekends it was fun to commute none the less.
Now the R3 is just much more fun, agreed the killer acc not there but the refinement just had me, and it was a load of fun when you wanted it to be, just one pointer though, change the tyres first thing after you get the bike, the mrf just does injustice to the way the bike handles.

This is my thought, i'd rather have the R3 than the 390 , but I do admit there is no replacing the fun the 390 can be at times, but most of the other times not that much fun(traffic and tours).

Do PM me if you want to discuss more.

      Cheers

Went to Nandi Hills, Bangalore this saturday with my mate.

          Early morning 5:45am

          Short pit-stop for some tea

          At the top

Some cornering pics on slow speed

My helmet fogged up due to the cold

Last stop for another round of tea. Weather changed from cold to hot very quickly.

It must be said Yamaha knows how to design bikes. OR,
I think maybe ur framing is quite good.

              I can see from ur profile that u shifted from Splendour to R3. Woww. That's a massive jump.[emoji14] [emoji14] [emoji16] [emoji16]

                Haha yeah.
The photo credit goes to my mate who sadly could not get permission to join this forum. Even I hate the interview type forum registration process.

Splendor served the purpose for a long time. And it still does for short rides but for long drives it just does not cut it. the engine is not even a 100cc and the low torque and 4 gears sometimes makes me forget that my R3 has 6 gears and I can go above 4th gear lol.

Okay so this very irritating thing happened today :

The bike was lying covered in the garage for two weeks. The petrol tank was 75% full. The bike was started yesterday and it did so without any issues. I let it idle for a long period of time due to the previous inactivity. Rode it for the regular commute distance of 55kms in heavy pune traffic conditions but there were no issues. However, today after riding it for about an hour in heavy morning traffic, it just refused to start. I was waiting in a long queue for security check outside my office, when this happened.

There was considerable heating of the engine, but nothing extra ordinary. The temp gauge showed 3 bars which is normal. However, on pushing the start button, it made funny noises from below the seat(where the battery might be located) and refused to crank up. I opened the fuel tank to check for a vapor lock, but it was of no use. The console did the preliminary check everytime the start was pressed but the bike didn't start. Tried push starting it in 1st as well as 2nd gear also to no avail.

It is to be noted that the bike was hot and was switched on and off a number of times while waiting in the queue. I however do not use the engine kill switch as it is a better practice to turn off the whole ignition.

It was a very bad experience as I had to push the whole heft of it up the steep slopes of my office campus. After about 20 minutes of torment, I tried once again to push start it on a downslope and finally it obliged. Kept the engine running on idle for a long time after this with intermittent revving of the engine.

What could be the cause of this irritating issue? I suspect this is NOT due to a weak battery. Although the strain on the battery is a lot due to the always-on lights. The bike has just completed it's first service. Is this a fuelling issue? Many are facing this abroad also. Cold starts are never a problem but hot starts trouble the bike, especially in heavy traffic conditions. Could this be because the bike is running lean? Has the high compression ratio got to do anything with this?

Need opinions from experts and fellow owners.

Lastly, the other R3 owners were a great help through the whatsapp group. Thanks guys!

dude, get the engine kill switch relay checked. The clicks were from the relay under the seat.

Yes Sir. There is just the light switch to toggle between dipper and head.

Deathmate.zed : Please find out the reason behind this from the service centre. This is quite creepy to get stranded lik ethat.

Though I do not own one, but did you check under the seat if the battery wires are all fine and no mouse has gone ahead and tried to get cozy in there.

Even I noticed that while being hot, it takes a couple of attempts before the bike starts if you happen to turn it off say at a traffic light. You have to give it some throttle as well. Anyways, you should get the bike inspected for abnormal sound.

AFAIK from my past experience with my R15 V1,I had a similar problem with my R15 where the radiator stopped working when I was travelling from Andhra Pradesh to Bangalore on a very hot day and the bike was stalled in the middle of the road.whenever I tried to push the starter button there would be a loud and fast rigourous sound coming from under the seat like Karrrrrrrrr*.I think you too may have a faulty radiator go to SVC and tell them to check that out.

The other reasons for this to cause is a starter relay, check that out too and hoo do check the RR unit of the bike as it may be the main culprit. If this helped do let me know.
