Until yamaha reduces the pricing of R3s (by local manufacturing like ninja 300) I dont see it is VFM twin sports tourer any more!
Who even said R3 is manufactured in India? They are made in Indonesia. They kept a line running only for Indian market. And no, Ninja 300 isnt fully made in India. Engine, chassis and many more parts are still imported. Many parts like meter was already made in India from day 1(2013), they just stopped sending it to Thailand for QA check and getting directly from Vendors now as they have set up a plant in Pune.
Ok on topic, it depends on user to user to put their money on either of it. The price difference was around 50k when they both last existed. After owning both these machines for over 4 years now, I would still be happy to put out an extra 50k on the R3. So that’s the whole point. It depends.
R3 got a new fairing, LED lamps and USD forks abroad just to keep it fresh till a completely new model comes up.
Yamaha is already sweating abroad in this category with Kawasaki releasing the Ninja 400, a much better bike at the same cost of R3. So they will act, they have to! Once they do that, hopefully we will get the same thing, but again I dont think they will locally manufacture it. I say this because the locally manufactured Ninja 300 parts price are same as imported Yamaha R3 parts, well some are priced much higher too for the Ninja(much much higer, some costs 5 times more than R3). So I would pay up a bit more at the time of purchase for that quality I get. I would take the Indonesian manufactured parts rather than Indian made as I know what the Indian manufacturing has made the Ninja 300.

      Hi all,
Is anyone familiar with or experienced any performance mods for the r3? I.e full system exhausts or ecu remaps (race dynamics piggyback ecu). If yes, is it worth the investment? Would I feel or see a noticeable difference in performance especially after the ecu remap and the full system exhaust. Another issue I'm having with my R3 is I find the brakes to be very unsatisfactory at good speeds which brings me to ebc/sintered brake pads. So if anyone has any experience with one or all of these mods I'd really appreciate the feedback.

      Cheers..!!

The 1st and most important upgrade on the R3 is getting steel braided brake lines, specially in the fronts, rears is not much needed, cause the fronts where 80-90% of the actual braking power is needed and happens too, as for ebc pads, I have seen professional track racers with stock pads and they work just as fine, so ebc or anything else is usually not recommended for R3, a full system exhaust is around 1L, and a proper professional ecu remap or a piggy back ecu, the good ones are 40-50k, and the above combo is incomplete without a high flow airfilter, not the stock replacement ones, that’s again 10-12k, do you really wanna do a pros/cons after this...

On my 2018 R3 which has ABS I had the brakes bled and new oil added after covering 10k kms by a professional and it made a good difference from before.Stopping distance was reduced.Try this and see.

Hi Guys, I've recently bought a used 2019 model R3, would like to be added into the R3 owners whatsapp group, have contacted Ashwiin Napster, but no response. If there is any other person I can contact for this, please let me know.

Hi, I am considering buying pre owned R3 preferably 2018 model and above. If possible, would you be able to share the price of 2019 R3 you bought and kms on odo. That will be really helpful for me to get an idea.
              Thanks in advance.

                The Jap is not well!!!

My 2018 R3 ABS has an issue where coolant is mixing with the engine oil as you can see below. The bike has done a little over 13000 kms and about 2.4 years old. The parts getting replaced are

Gasket, Housing Cover 2 Item: 1WD-E2428-00-00

                Impeller Shaft Assy Item: 1WD-E2450-00-00

Gasket, Crankcase Cover 2 Item: 1WD-E5461-00-00 INCL. IN CLUTCH KIT

                Seal Item: 33S-E2223-00-00

If you order these online from the states this will cost around $150+. Checked from the Yamaha Service Center at Monarch Yamaha in Pune and they had 2 parts in stock rest are being ordered from Thailand. The total cost of ordering parts from the showroom INR 2000

I blame 2020 and Yamaha for this...

Update - The Jap is Back!!!

Some of the picks of the old parts that have been changed and internals being cleaned.Did a flush and got new motul 7100 oil and coolant. Gearshifts became even smoother. Total 4 parts replaced, got 2 from the Yamaha Service Center on day one and rest arrived from Thailand in less than two weeks.

Reason for all this, a long time back I had an accident when I hit the left side of a footpath at about 40-50kms which may have caused this.Bikes running well now

                  Ouch. That hurts.
Any reason how did this happen? Damage on the crank case and/or oil sump?

Hi, do share the exact specs of the tyre.

How is it compared to a Metz M5 or Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2?

                      Cheers!

I guess you can easily ride 2-3K kms more, just lookout for the tire wear indicator. Supply of Metz must be affected due to the logistical issues presented by COVID-19. You can try Pirelli Diablo Rosso (better than Metz) if you like a grippy feel, or you can put on the Michelin Pilot for longer life but less grippy than Pirelli's, your call. Both would cost around 12-14K INR.

Hi, a friend of mine needs to transport his R3 from Pune to Chandrapur (Maharashtra), he(is not in India at the moment) has asked me to transport the motorcycle to his hometown. I was hoping if you could suggest a reliable transport company which I should use to transport the motorcycle. Just want the motorcycle to reach safely without any damages.

Totally agree. The Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 are better than Metz M5. They heat up faster and grip is incredible. I have had some occasions where the rear wheel spun on hard acceleration on the Metz. Never happened on the Diablo. Mileage is low but you can extract a lot of performance outta the R3 with these tyres.
