Always focus on rpm. Never ever on speed.
Your bike should be within 5K rpm irrespective of speed. Even if at 5k rpm its 60 do it.np

    BTW pics ate stunning

True that! Focus on the RPM and not the speed, do what speeds you feel is subtly attainable with the 5K RPM range and you'll be fine

Just take it easy and enjoy your ride, I got mine a little over a month back and have completed almost 3k already, here is what I followed
            • Give it about a minute after cold starts in the morning before you are off for the engine to warm up. Dont rev hard before running for the first 2 - 4 kms
            • The operative word here is 'moderation', its not as if you exceed the 5000 rpm mark once in a while that the engine will go bust or something. Go upto 5000 rpm gently especially in the lower gear before upshifting.
            • If you have to choose between keeping the revs high or staying at low revs in a higher gear, ALWAYS choose the former. Never lug the engine in its initial kms
            • Whatever you do, do not cruise at a constant RPM for too long. This may induce glazing of the pistons which you do not want. Hence be cautious of highway stints at this point, if you must, keep varying the RPMs.
            • Expose the engine to various riding conditions like city traffic, a bit of highways, twisties if you have one within a short ride

I would take it slightly above 5000 RPMs once I had complete around 300 kms and above 7.5K RPM after 800kms. There is no harm in this as the manual itself suggests that you avoid PROLONGED OPERATION above these thresholds. not to avoid crossing these altogether. Do not open the throttle fully though.

Its a high revving sportsbike after all and you should give it a taste of high revs now and then. The initial run in goes a long way in shaping the characteristics of the engine in the long run. After all, you dont want a R15 with a distaste for high revs!

PS - I had also run in my Alto K10 4 years back in a similar manner and today she has oodles of bottom end torque along with a penchant for climbing the revs. I have always done the servicing on time (sometimes a little ahead) and close to 50k on the odo now, its hard to tell that she runs a 3 cylinder engine

Welcome to the club bro. Ride safe , Ride long. I am having the same color. I found the engine as little harsh down the revs. I was having an fz before , its engine was like silk. But I have tested my R15s , once crossed 4.5k rpm, there is a power burst and all harshness is gone. Touches 100 in 7k rpm. Ample power available for Indian highway.

                Hi Guys,
Took delivery of Racing blue R15S today. Initially I was little uncomfortable with the handle bar angle, due to which operation of clutch is little painful. Apart from that engine is brilliant. Driving between 2500 to 5000 rpm , lots of torque available in the lower end . Drove 100kms on the first day itself.

Thanks bro. I saw your pics before I booked my R15S. Can you tell me did you kept your rpm limit to 5000 or 7500 post 500 kms in the engine break-in period. As per manual, it should not exceed 7500 rpm.

I kept under 5k rpm, Till 1500 km . Driving mostly in city traffic. On Weekend i use to go upto 7k rpm on highways. Recently did 870km trip, maintained a steady rpm of 5-6.5k rpm. Engine hums smoothly around these Rpm. No complaint till now.

Thanks for the advice. Have completed 450 km till now (mostly city). Will be doing a Mumbai - Pune trip next week. Any recommendations for long distance trip on this bike. I have read the manual which says let the bike cool for 5-10 mins after 1 hr of riding. Did you follow this advice in your long distance trip?

I gave break of 15 min after every 60km. Maintain speed of 70-80 max. You will get excellently fuel economy. Dont carry any heavy bag on your back. Use bungee cord or saddle bag. Do carry knee guard along with basic gears. That will let you lean along ghat section. Ride safe. [emoji3]

I have driven 400kms till date. Engine pulls cleanly at low rpm and it doesnt feel like lack of torque. Being forged piston and all aluminium cylinder I made it mandatory to idle for 2mins or fast idle solenoid cut off where the rpm comes down from 2k rpm to 1300 rpm. This ensures there is minimal piston skirt scratches as the forged piston clearances are more than cast alu pistons.

I think the yamaha fuel injection doesnt need anything like settling on to idling speed. The idle rpm is fixed like rock steady at 1500rpm once I press the starter. I have though seen in RS200, You just need to rev a little to come to actual idling speed.
