First of all wish you all a very happy new year.

I'm from Pune and I have purchased a honda hornet 160r CBS variant on 24th December 2016.

I'm facing some issues with the bike. Kindly guide me in deciding what the actual issues are help me in resolution.

I'm facing the following main issues with the bike.
    1. The gear shifts are really hard of the bike. When the engine is cool then the shifts are smooth initially for a short distance of 3-4 km but as the engine becomes hot, the gear shift start giving problem and become very hard to operate. I did the first servicing of the bike at 440 km but still the gear shifts are hard. Does it take time for the gear shifts to become smooth considering this as a new engine?
    2. The main issue is with the engine. When the engine warms up after riding for about 3-4 km, the engine becomes very stressed and sounds rough post 3000 rpm. I shift to higher gears post 3500 rpm, avoid driving with high gear in low speeds . I'm also following the instructions for the run in period deligently and have never revved the engine post 4500 rpm till now.
    3. The engine also makes a humming sound while accelerating and deaccelerating as if the tappets are loose. Is there an issue with the engine?

I've reported about the problems to the service center multiple times but they are not acknowledging it. I've also registered a complaint by emailing to customer care but no action has been taken. Kindly suggest what needs to be done in such situation.

    Regards,
    Vivek Shinde
Could you check whether chain is properly lubed and whats your kms on the ODO? When is your first service. I believe all the issues would get rectified after 1st service when you change engine oil.

The chain is properly lubed and adjusted for correct slackness. The bike had done 440 kms at the time of first service which was done yesterday. There are still issues after the first service.

I have faced similar issues with my bike and a lot of the new engines are faulty . I had to run around a lot and after multiple complains I got my crankshaft and piston cylinder changed now it's ok ... Hope it's not the case with you .

How did you convince them that there are issues?

I raised a complaint with customer support met the showroom manager built repo and went for a long test ride with the sr mechanic . He acknowledged the issue and after 3 attempts finally he changed everything.

My bike was giving some strange noise after second service (or so i felt) . The bass in the engine was lost. Earlier i was easily reaching the speeds of 80-90 but after second service crossing 60 was Ok but reaching 80-90 was difficult . I took to ASC twice. First occasion they fixed the neutral switch and on second occasion they changed the neutral switch and o-ring. I was still facing the noise issue so took it to local mechanic. He adusted chain and lubed and said the noise will be gone as the noise is from chain and engine is fine. But as i am troubled by the slightest sound also I again took it to ASC. They kept my bike for entire day and drove it for around 10 KMS. They advised that there is no noise and the sound is the nature of the engine. Strangely my 80-90 thing is fixed now. I think they fixed the AFR now ( though he was not able to understand when i said factory reset AFR and i had to tell him to adjust the carburetor).

Finally they advised me if i am not satisfied then they can arrange for expert engineer from Honda who visit once a month to the ASC and they will inspect the bike. Their next visit will be on 13 or 15th of this month. I will try to get their feedback also on the bike.

Posting this experience so that anyone who is feeling any problem and it is not getting resolved by ASC, jusk ask for expert engineers appointment from honda. They will arrange the dates and you can get your bike checked.

My bike is running rough nowadays. Even on smooth roads in Mumbai, the bike vibrates a little.

It's like riding Hornet with over pressured tyres on rough patches roads... But I checked it many times, it's 25 25.

                  Any guess about this

Yes tyre pressure is 25-25 without pillion and 25-29 with pillion. When I visit asc they even don't know the servicing schedule of Hornet. They kept calling me for servicing every 2-3 months😂😂. And I don't know how to convince them that there is a problem in bike like vibrations, sound change and pickup. They said to me that everything is normal😥😥😥

Yeah same happened with me multiple times. I even contacted Honda customer care but they don't take any action. The just forward to the dealer and again dealer does nothing.

If you really escalate then they will personally look into issue and follow up. But for such minor yet significant issues from riding and comfort perspective, there's nothing much that we can expect.

Finally I got irritated about such performance and issues that now I don't think and care much about it.

In future, I'll surely buy something better. Honda is popular for it's sturdy build, smooth engine and riding comfort. If that's lacking from Hornet then there's literally no point on buying and using this Hornet.

Rather than running behind to fix such pathetic machine, one would rather look into other things.

I don't think Hornet is a bad product,as it was running fine until 3.5k kms. I think service center's are ruining everything.I think they don't have proper training and due to rush also they have neglect various things in servicing.Dont be disheartened too early, I would suggest you to go for another service center. I'm also going to my Hometown and will do my 3rd service 3 months before scheduled date.

Please say it aloud. Hornet is one of best from Honda.

Common dude,if bike has issues we have to accept that. This issues should be discussed in xbhp forum,so that it gets resolved.Afterall it's machine, will get faults, but it should get rectified and resolved.

And if I again get a chance to buy a bike today,i will choose HORNET over gixeer, apache and otheRs as it fits best in my requirements.

Rofl. How do we complement the bike exactly? Pet it, whisper to it or play Drake to it?

These guys won't be complaining here if their bikes were doing good. Sure, some apprehensions are not warranted, but in general, no bike is trouble free for ever.

Maybe he meant, you take care of the bike and the bike will take care of you.

But yes, I do agree - Hornet is the most complained about Honda on the forum. Hopefully the next batch comes out ironing these issues. Reminds me of 2011 and CBR 250R. But the product bounced back and how!
