  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

I just bought a Honda hornet couole of weeks ago clocked around 1300 kms and did my first service.

I am getting mileage of around 57 kmpl, this seems little more than most of my friends and to that in online reviews.

Is there any one else with this mileage.

I get 55kmpl on my room mate's 2016 model on most of the times. And it's not impossible if ride under decent speed and shift at proper RPMs. I measure using reserve to reserve method. Nice to know that someone else gets good mileage. Worst I've gotten is 47kmpl when riding constantly at 75-85km/hr speeds. Riding at 60km/hr constantly even gives 50kmpl at times. You can verify it yourself. I shift at 4000RPM on highways and free roads. Never ever used the bike in bumper traffic tbh. My Splendor serves for city commutes.

        Thanks for your reply.

Have you ever experienced missing while accelerating. Some times (not everytime) when I try to speed up in top gear from 50 to 70 bike jerks couple of times like chain slip, but not more than 1 or 2 times. Then the bike pulls like anything.

My chain is in good condition and not slack.

It's not exactly missing. It's the lack of sudden torque IMO. Hornet is geared tall and it's more of a jerking and lag for me when trying to accelerate suddenly. It pulls like crazy though. It's normal for the bike and not harmful in any way.

Previously i too faced it during 1500 kilometers, but now at 4500 kilometers, the pull from 50 to 90kmph in hornet is very strong it's only after 160 4v, in every open city road i touch 90kmph regularly without stressing the engine. The beauty of hornet is that it cruises beautifully in highway [emoji7][emoji7]

Thank you everyone for your reply.

I am planning to change my stock engine oil to Motul 104062 5100 4T Hybrid 10W-30 after 1500-1700kms. Could you please share your thoughts on this.

This came to my mind since my bike produces vibrations after 70-75 kmph and I think a better engine oil can help me on this.

I used it , it's a good oil, gearbox becomes smooth and engine revs freely. Vibrations will go down as you cover more kilometers, i have covered 4.5k kilometers and it has become smooth, i think by around 7k kilometers it'll be even more smoother. You can also try honda throttle 10w 30 synthetic oil too, i am currently using it and it's very good.
Also, you can try shell 10w 30 semi synthetic engine oil.

I am using 4T 7100 10w40. Engine is a lot smoother than before. I have clocked 23k km

After completing how many kilometers you switched to 10w 40?

                      Hello guys,
From past few days, I have been noticing strange issue in my hornet 2018 ( 8.6k kms).
After parking in hot sun for about an hour, It somewhat feels underpowered ( kind of choked up air filter) for 100-200 meters and later on it’s back to normal. Has anybody experienced this?

Ps- Engine oil ( Honda Throttle FS 10w30 ) , Air filter , Spark plug were replaced 500kms back.

                        TIA.
I'm using since 8k kms and the odo is 12k now. I didn't ever face any vibrations earlier either. The engine's much smoother. I feel it has much to do with Honda's engine rather than the oil. Bike always starts in the first attempt. Gear shifts are butter smooth. Bike accelerates effortlessly. I always ride above 100 on highways. Quick accelerations and decelerations in bumper to bumper traffic. Yet I face zero issues in the bike. In fact I'm afraid to give the bike for third service[emoji28] as they might mess it up. I'm using Shell Advanced FS 10W40 since it doesn't have esters as in Motul which when the oil os hot could react with the gaskets as quoted by someone earlier in the forum. I can suggest Shell FS 10W40 to anyone owning a Hornet. I see most of them on this forum complaining about refinement but trust me other than the sweet sound from my CBR, the complete refinement levels of Hornet are on par with the CBR. Hornet has a different but smooth sound till 6k rpm and a bassy grunt with no vibrations till the end of rpm range.

That's due to the vaporization of fuel in the tank. It's like the air lock you've mentioned and is common on any bikes if parked under hot sun for longer durations. Open the tank lid and close it when you face it for longer duration while riding. It's mostly felt only when the bike is started and gets back to normal once the fuel starts to flow in for combustion. It's nothing to worry about, rather park your bike in shade for various obvious reasons.

Thanka for the info. Will use shell oil in 8k kilometers.

Quick question: As lots of early users have complained about engine issues.

Q1: Are you facing issue after 6K ODO? Rough, gear shift etc.
