I never ownned any geared two wheeler before. Now i have bought RE Himalayan. I could ride it easily but i am little confused on the righ timing when i can change from.1st to 2nd and so on. And when to come down.

I faced challenges when i was riding in Old Khandala Ghat. I did climbing on 1st gear. I felt that i am not doing justice with motorcycle.

Guys could you please guide me on gear timings and practice you follow while riding in City, Highway and hills.

    Thanks in advance![emoji4]
Hey buddy.. first of all congratulations on buying this machine. Even I bought mine a week ago and am past 500 already. One thing I have noticed about this motorcycle that for smooth shifting of gears, the rpm needs to be around the 2.5K mark and you would get the smoothest shift you can imagine. But any higher or any lower makes you cringe at the effort needed to shift and the response you get from the bike.

What issues did you face when climbing the ghats ? If I were you I would definitely not try 1st as it might burn out the clutch..

Maybe the other veterans on here with the H can advise more precisely.

    Congrats once again !!

Old Khandala ghat in 1st is too much. The vehicle should ideally climb in 3rd gear and in some places you can shift to 4th gear.If there is heavy truck traffic at one of the bends you can come down to 2nd, 1st ideally is not required anywhere in Khandala ghat

They build something from scratch, and launched a product in a category that does not exist in the home grown Indian market.
Not really! You conveniently chose to forget Hero Impulse, mate. That bike was ahead of its time when it was launched with a bunch of things as a first on an Indian bike tailor made for the "territory", and we Indians were as usual not ready for that.

Now that we're ready, well we all know what the situation is.

Since you've mentioned you've not been accustomed to riding a geared motorcycle. I would suggest you to learn how to change gears with respect to engine RPM. In a scooter the gears are a CVT meaning they automatically change gears, you only have to open the throttle. When bikes, you need to upshift, and downshift gears with respect to engine RPM. Don't climb hills immediately, first off, just try riding the bike in plane roads, try changing all the gears from one to five both, upshift and downshift. This would give you an idea of where to change, why to change with respect to RPM.

Just try riding for a week in flat to medium incline surfaces, you'll get the knack of it and then try some hill riding.

              Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

They could have done this in the start itself. Would have been more than happy to pay 20K from my pocket. :/ Idiots. Feel like a guinea pig now. :/

Ahh, I guess you got me wrong. I don't want the FI, Just wanted ABS. Would have been great. But anyway, I have got used to the braking style now.

Right, no ABS added but expected soon as an add on option. EFI added for 10k extra.
