I went to setco yamaha at delhi. They charge insurance 3551, around 10000 for rto & 900 something for freight. In addition, as a option +3 years warranty at 777, thats make total 5. 1.35L on road.

For the first time rider 250 CC is not an ideal bike. Start off with 150cc or less, understand how the bike behaves, learn and correct driving styles, develop best driving practise and then go for an upgrade.

dineshaugustin 14th was void of rain and the streets dried up so i did get my bike. i ran it for 80 kms on the first day. few things:
              1. i was nervous with the test ride bike. stalled it several times on the first gear in the city traffic. however by the end of it i got the hang of this bike and got comfortable with it.
              2. picked up my bike and got the leg guard fitted in the service center. surprisingly they didn't know how to fit in the skid plate so i have the part with me now.
              3. i was ill informed sadly about the engine break in. in the 80 kms i reached up to 6000 rpms at certain instances while accelerating. even though i did not hold the bike at those rpms, it kills me that i mishandled her this way. after reading the manual i have learnt that for the first 500 kms i should limit it to 4500 rpm and for the second 500 kms i can reach up to 6000 rpm.
              4. by the end of the 80 kms, the average fuel consumption shown in the console was 37 km per litre.

on the 15th, as i had mentioned i made the 160 km journey from Guwahati to Kaliabor. it was a national highway which had a hilly area and mostly straight patches. this time i limited the bike to 4500 rpm. took a break after every 40 kms.
              5. as shown in the attachment, i have done almost 240 kms in these two days and since i am new into biking i get a butt ache pretty soon. today i had a backache as well by the end.
              6. also i could manage this bike fine despite me being a rookie/newbie and this being a 250cc bike. i have limited knowledge compared to you guys yet i will say that this bike lets you dictate her. she doesn't demand aggression. you may ride it aggressively if you want to, or you may be gentle with her. both ways she doesn't complain. i feel if a newbie cannot control his or her impulses and hence the throttle, then even an under powered scooty or motorcycle will be dangerous. what is important is the ability to stop the bike.
              7. i found the braking very very good. i can compare it only to a royal enfield classic as this is the only other bike i rode, that too for a few kms only. i can accelerate knowing that i can halt the bike with ease and within my control. on the 14th i had to panic brake once as i was on the right side of my lane coming down a hill and the Bolero in front of me did an U turn. it was 50 meters ahead of me but i was at a relatively high speed as well, say 65-70 km/hr (obviously did not check the speedometer then, but can estimate with the amount of wind hitting me). my passenger panicked and so did i, but the bike held her ground and i am alive. maybe if the bite of the front brake was stronger it may cause the bike to skid, and this will be dangerous without the safety net of ABS. so all i can say is that i love the braking on my bike as it inspires confidence in me. i dont want stronger brakes as of now...
              8. by the end of the 160 kms i did on the 15th, the total distance was 240 kms and average fuel consumption showed 43.7 km per litre. this may be inaccurate but if there is any marginal difference (compared to 37 km/litre the previous day) it must be because i kept the rpm below 4500 (right?).
              9. i tell myself that i am still a nobody, a rookie learner in the biking world, cause i really am one. if i get over confident it may be the end of me. but the way the bike lets me control her it really really makes me feel good.

fellow xbhpians, i am really forward to your inputs and critique..be it harsh or mild. i think it will help me a lot. dont leave me alone in this harsh world! i would respect any bit of advice..

tomorrow i.e. 16th i plan to take it to a Yamaha dealer in a town called Tezpur where i will get it Teflon coated. please give me your opinions, whether Teflon coating is useful or not, as most of you will be experienced. i will put a tank guard as well, provided i find one, as the tank area is prone to scratches i think.

Congrats Hemanta. Giving a burst once in a while don't harm the engine. Sometimes its good. Most important thing is riding it in all gears and varying the speed.
Be safe while riding. It seems its your mistake going on the right side of the lane. Be patience while driving, and riding extra few kms for the sake of safety is always better than going on the right lane to save sometime. Eventually none of the tech can save us unless we dont drive with some common sense.

Do check the safety related threads here to improve your riding skills in safety aspects.

Hey, I completely agree with the points 6,8,& 9. Especially 6 & 9. Even I've started to think this way, that I'm a learner despite of having ridden for 6 years already. Because, the only crash I've had till now was when I was overconfident.
Also, if you're concerned about run in period, my quick read answer might be of help to you. (link at the end) It may not be agreeable to everyone, but it's what I follow and have got excellent results. Good luck mate, I suggest you get some practice on braking and panic braking so you know how she reacts. Enjoy

Teflon is a ridiculous thing dont get it done. It will not prevent scratch. In my old bike, with heat, the coating started to peel of from tank. It started to look horrible. If there is no coat and you got a scratch, it can clear up using rubbing compound but not possible on coat.
Read its pros & cons on google.

True, Teflon coat is not advised.. But the black glossy parts gets scratched quite easily on this bike.. Even for the slightest of wipe using a Microfiber cloth can leave mild streaks/lines..
I'm thinking of getting ceramic coating done, but it's costly..

Also guys, do y'all feel slight buzz in the footpegs and lower tank area while riding at some speeds(between 40- 110) and RPMs??
I get them, it's not too much, but it can be felt..After first service, it reduced by may be 30%

I would suggest you to go to a 3m Centre and get that PPF sheet covered on your bike if you think you need some type of protection or do a wax regularly to protect paint, and last but not the least congratulations on your new acquisition.

                            7. i found the braking very very good. i can compare it only to a royal enfield classic as this is the only other bike i rode, that too for a few kms only. i can accelerate knowing that i can halt the bike with ease and within my control. on the 14th i had to panic brake once as i was on the right side of my lane coming down a hill and the Bolero in front of me did an U turn. it was 50 meters ahead of me but i was at a relatively high speed as well, say 65-70 km/hr (obviously did not check the speedometer then, but can estimate with the amount of wind hitting me). my passenger panicked and so did i, but the bike held her ground and i am alive. maybe if the bite of the front brake was stronger it may cause the bike to skid, and this will be dangerous without the safety net of ABS. so all i can say is that i love the braking on my bike as it inspires confidence in me. i dont want stronger brakes as of now...
                            8. by the end of the 160 kms i did on the 15th, the total distance was 240 kms and average fuel consumption showed 43.7 km per litre. this may be inaccurate but if there is any marginal difference (compared to 37 km/litre the previous day) it must be because i kept the rpm below 4500 (right?).
                            9. i tell myself that i am still a nobody, a rookie learner in the biking world, cause i really am one. if i get over confident it may be the end of me. but the way the bike lets me control her it really really makes me feel good.

fellow xbhpians, i am really forward to your inputs and critique..be it harsh or mild. i think it will help me a lot. dont leave me alone in this harsh world! i would respect any bit of advice..

tomorrow i.e. 16th i plan to take it to a Yamaha dealer in a town called Tezpur where i will get it Teflon coated. please give me your opinions, whether Teflon coating is useful or not, as most of you will be experienced. i will put a tank guard as well, provided i find one, as the tank area is prone to scratches i think.

p.s. i do not know if i have attached the pics properly. one pic is of my sister on the bike. what i found sexy she found rather intimidating! [emoji14]
                            i hope i didn't bore you people
Congratulations on the new bike.. keep it cool and keep it simple. Although the bike gives you confident, I would still suggest to take it as slow as possible. To learn and practise riding styles. Keep yourself calm and obey traffic rules. At a point you will know what suits you the best. Happy riding.

Mileage depends on your riding style, in city keep it at 60 or below and no sudden acceleration and smooth riding should give you good mileage.. .
