Yamaha bikes do not show speeds less than 5kmph.
I own a 5.5 year old R15V2, it shows speeds till 6 kmph and then jumps straight to 0.
I have noticed this on a lot of Fz during college.
Even the new V3 and the MT15 behaves the same way.
This is nothing to worry about, its completely normal for Yammys.

Second, if you manage to spin the front wheel exceeding the speed of 5 kmph, then yes it will show on the speedo meter, and once you stop spinning it, it will jump back to 0.

Last the engine power goes to the rear wheel while the speedometer is connected to the front wheel, starting the engine on any gear while on the stand will not show any speed on the meter.

As I said it is normal behavior for Yamaha bikes, don't worry about it.

In FZ 25, Speedo is NOT connected to the front wheel.

I think I am facing an issue with my FZ25.

When I am riding my bike normally, upshifting gears around 3000-5000 rpm, the bike upshifts properly i.e. I can feel the instantaneous power/speed increase.

BUT, When I am riding aggressively, upshifting gears around upper rpm ranges, the bike doesn't upshift properly. I cannot feel that instantaneous power/speed increase. It feels like there is some slippage down at the engine department.

ODO is at 10.5k.

Yes, but i want to know if it's same for Abs version as well. this is not for identification of any errors but i want to know if speedometer signal works same or not.

I asked those 3 questions to determine if Abs unit sends speed reading from front sensor or rear sensor. because in Abs version there's no speedometer sensor in engine like it is in non abs version. because i'm in a process of retrofitting Abs. and i need to know answers for those 3 questions. because if it works like i'm thinking it works then i won't have to change Main ecu. that will save me 3000rs. apart from that retrofitting is almost done.

Completely wrong for Abs version. both wheels have their own speed sensor now. and non abs version has sensor in output shaft, so it shows rear wheel speed.


if someone with Abs version can help me, please.

Retrofitting ABS (Dual channel), if feasible, wouldn't be very costly? Something like ₹30000..

so far i have spent

1. 1100rs for both wheel lathe work. ( to mount abs toner disks )
2. 200rs for ABS modulator mounting bracket.
3. 1922rs ktm brake hose ( this was total waste, it's 2cm shorter than needed)
4. 5821 for wiring harness
5. 2900rs for brake hoses.( you can re use rear hose)
6. 2200 for both speed sensors
7. around 1000rs for small parts ( needed for abs, such as 2 toner discs, nuts/bolts etc.)

things left -
1. abs modulator - 13720rs

most likely reusable -
2. speedometer 2623
3. ECU 3050rs


now i'm stuck at one thing - if abs modulator sends speedometer reading signal to main ECU exactly same as speedo sensor on non abs version, then no problem i can reuse main ecu. but if signal is different ( different PWM signal/voltage) then i'll have to change main ECU as well. that will increase retrofitting cost by 3050rs.

and about the speedometer, it only lacks 2 resistors and an orange led for abs warning light. which i can just solder by myself. so that will save me 2623rs.

now if you total all that = 25055rs after 7% dealer discount .(add 1922rs for ktm brake hose which is not needed) and probably 3k more if ecu change is required. no labor costs, as everything is done by me. it's less than 30k for retrofit.



i bought the bike last year for 1.29L. add this 25k = 1.54L it's still cheaper than selling it and buying abs version today.

How I wish if Yamaha offers ABS fitting as a package for Fz25. Less than 2 years since this model is launched. Add to it, this is a successful motorcycle in Latin America and elsewhere too exporting from India only, as I understands. If it is below 25000, many will surely go for abs.

I will enquire with the dealer if they can do ABS on 2018, 2017 models.

They won't most likely, because Yamaha doesn't allow. and even if somehow they(dealer) agree to, it will cost around 40k because they won't re-use or modify anything. i'm re-using lots of parts, such as both wheels ( 4.8+3.4k), frame 10k, and hopefully ecu too. so that lowers the cost alot. don't forget no labor charges for me as i'm doing it all by myself. will make videos on it once the job is complete so that others can see how it's done.

Most people still think ABS retrofitting is difficult or it won't work. but it's not difficult. and if parts are for same bike, it works exactly like factory fitted abs. because it's designed that way.

Visited service centre for adjusting chain adjustment. They noticed front tyre is wearing out on the right side. They are saying need to change the fork oil immediately. Quoted Rs500 for that. Do they replace the oil in both the front forks? Anything to do apart from oil change?

Also, the rusting on silencer pipe - they are saying will paint the silencer and will give back if you leave the bike for a day there. But.. wouldn't the FZ25 owners together ask for areplacement to the newer model silencer since it's a manufacturing problem? I read someone even got new silencer on warranty.

If there's no oil leakage from forks, then tell them to check rear wheel/axle alignment. most likely it's not straight ( happens if we adjust chain slack.

Depends on SVC, they can replace it on goodwill. but no replacements offered from Yamaha officially. ( are you sure it's actually rust and not baked mud ?) because i clean it regularly and it still looks black/ dark gray even after 16 months.

There is no fork oil leakage. But, rear wheel feels wobbling in uneven surfaces (like highways where first layer chipped off). Is that related? I will tell them to look for rear axle alignment.

I have not checked it. But, felt it may be rusting. I am told unofficially by the Yamaha mechanic to better get the silencer painted at any 3M service, as per him they have some heat resistant coat. Not sure about the genuinity of his claim.

I don't own a FZ but why don't you go to the service center and check that out yourself, or take a test drive of the bike, stop on side of the road and perform your experiments. Just trying to help you
