Rode in pretty bad traffic for more than 30mins and engine heat went max till the 2nd last bar. Still, it was not very hot around my legs and thighs. The display rebooted on its own once. I feel that the rear brake doesn't have any bite in it. Is it same for others as well?

BTW, after mostly riding 150cc, the power in this bike felt amazing. It's fast, really fast. The seating position is comfortable along with well cushioned seat. I can ride it all day long.
Bro, even I had the same thing with the rear brake bite issue, after I took it out of the showroom it was like a drum brake when I complained to the showroom guy he said initially it will lack bite as it is brand new, I was wondering y isn't it for the front brake which is very crisp! after a day the brake failed!!!!
when I took it to showroom they said they will order a new part took some pics of my bike, and guess what its been a week still the part dint arrive, I got pissed and went to showroom this Saturday spoke to him and he said he l replace the part with the new bikes which is coming tmrw! and when I asked what about the new bike to which my fail brake they will fit he said he will fit the part which is due to come this week, hopefully everything works well tmrw.

Kausar pls check ur rear brake often; it may fail anytime, might be dangerous!!

Will change to motul fully synthetic ester compound oil at 1000km.
Did the same with my RC390
Changed the engine oil at 250kms with motul's mineral oil
Believe me, my bike runs smoother than other rc's out here. Still got the vibrations and everything but isn't that hash

            Hi All

This is my first post in X BHP although i have been following it for a long time, I have been riding REs for last 22 years and have recently booked a KTM 390 2017 model in April'17 and might be getting the delivery by 20th May'17. I have been using my bike only for leisure rides and for touring only and switching from an RE to KTM was not an easy decision to make but courtesy REs ever haunting technical glitches with UCE and horrible after sales service. I just wanted to ask all the experts here about the touring capabilities of Duke 390 especially on bad roads? although i already have a few alterations in mind but your valuable feedbak will be a lot of help.

              Hi All,

Good to see the ownership thread available on Xbhp!

              Hi Prashanth,

              Firstly, congratulation!

I have also made my mind to book the 2017 Duke 390 (upgrading from Karizma R) and I am also in Pune. Just wondering, which showroom did you book yours?
None of the showrooms in Pune have a test vehicle available (I also found the KTM showroom guys super rude). Though Duke 390 is no doubt a good bike, but I am eager to test ride it once before I put down my money.
Also, is the delivery date of 20th May very sure? I have been told 90 days waiting, folks who will do the full payment upfront will get the bikes first, while the those who will avail the finance will have to wait. I am part of the later group and my concern is getting the bike in peak monsoon which will be a bad idea.

Even I will be using it only for touring, coming to the touring capabilities it is very stable at triple digits and it is very much refined; will have to make few add-ons like the windscreen which is much need as post 100 there is a wind blast, the suspension is far better than the old one and even the seats and brakes!! it will make a one hell of a tourer!

                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Done with the First service today, billed Rs1500 for oil change they said they have put 10w50 but I was not there when they changed the oil! Bajaj even stocks 15w50 and 20w50.

Thanks 44horses , According to the dealer the front suspension travel can be increased by around 1 inch which gives a bit of satisfaction, the other thing I am worried about is the seating position, how good it is for touring? I unfortunately could not get the test ride as it is still not available in Pune. I was happy with Dominar seating position which I test rode once but wasn't impressed with overall quality and found KTM quality far better and booked it on face value and positive feedbacks from experts.

                    Hi Rushikesh

I booked it at Bund garden showroom next to Ruby Hall, I went to Kharadi showroom first but the staff were hardly interested in selling the bike and hence in search of a test ride I went to Bund garden showroom and found the staff not only courteous but also more knowledgeable about the bike, however, test rides are still not available.I visited the showroom last week and they ensured that I will get the test ride before I get the delivery. The delivery date is tentatively 20th May also the staff told me that all the bookings till now should get the delivery by the end of this month.

Test rides are available at the Baner showroom near Balewadi High Street. I did a test ride two weeks ago and booked it. Waiting period was told to be 2 months.

I share the same concern in getting the bike in peak monsoon

Coming to the touring aspect of Duke 390. The bike is an excellent mile muncher and go on and on without any fuss. The only real deal is how accustomed the rider is to the bike. Some people flow with the riding position, some people do take some time to get adopted to the riding stance. But, ultimately it's the rider getting accustomed to the motorcycle there's and there's no two ways around it. What I would suggest is, try going for a long distance ride, with appropriate breaks and keep a tab on body pain points if any; this should give you an idea as to what your limits are, and when to take a pit stop et cetera.

                        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                        THE END

                          Hi

I recently got the all new KTM Duke 390 and its all been good fun except for 1 thing, the radiator fan switching on.This happens quite a lot even when the engine temperature's normal.Any thoughts as to why that's happening would be very welcome!

                          Thanks

Ok ,So back to review, experience and pictures. First pics as promised earlier

Just back from a 90 kms ride for break in and ODO after today's ride says 590, So just have to go 410 kms more to unleash The Beast. Till now everything is going super. What I noticed today in Top gear(6th gear)

                            RPM Speed
                            4000 62 km/h
                            5000 81 km/h
                            6000 101 km/h
8000 140 km/h( Just for two seconds, to occasionally give a taste of high rpm to engine)

Suspension is a bit hard for city ride where roads are not good. But on smooth roads the metzellers show what they are meant for. Fuel consumption is now showing 29km/L(with Speed petrol). The DRL starts and stays as you crank the bike ( One touch start option feels great, You just have to press the start button once and need not to hold it) The light sensor located in from of the tablet meter works great and automatically turn on the low beams and console background also changes to black in evening. It took me almost a day to figure out how to switch to high beam as there is no button available for lights . Clutch is super smooth and so does the gear shifting. You can clearly feel the slipper clutch while downshifting fast.

Do let me know in case anyone requires any special information on the bike.

                            ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Noticed later after posting the pics, Maid was cleaning and got captured as well in few of the pics above with the bucket.
Congratulations on the new bike!I too got mine 12 days back.Have got just 1 question for you.Does the radiator fan switch on often? It does so on my 390,even when the engine temperature's normal.

                            Thanks

that is how the bike operates and is normal.. the fan kicks in when the coolant temp reaches a specific value as programmed in the ecu.(the temp gauge that you see on the console is NOT engine temp, but the coolant temp.). And the purpose of the fan is to bring down the coolant temp which in turn keeps the engine temp under control.

you should be worried only if the fan doesn't come on.
