• Which synthetic engine oil?

Hello, fellow Apache riders,

Which is the most suitable synthetic engine oil for RTR 180? Please recommend based on your experience.

I am currently using TVS made synthetic oil. I am not sure if its due to engine oil, most of the time gear change in my bike is bit of a trouble.
Say, you are riding bike at 30-40 kmph and try to reduce gear while slowing down, bang, the gear wont shift down (no such prob when i up-shift). So i have to release clutch and slightly accelerate, before trying to shift gear down again. Has anybody faced this issue with your RTR?

This is more of a nuisance when i ride through roads with speed breakers every 100 meter

Edit: How is Shell Advance Ultra 10W-40? Any experience using it in your Apache? Does it make any noticeable difference (in a good way)

I think that the problem you are facing can be solved by adjusting the clutch. I am highly satisfied with shell ultra 10w40. I had similar experience with Mobil racing 10wxx, very good oil but availability can be an issue.

Hello All,

So finally i changed my tyres to mrf zapper for both front and rear after clocking 29400 on TVS stock tyres. They could have lasted more 5k+ kms but as my rear was having many punctures so decided to change it anyhow. It cost me 4200K for a pair with recommended size (90/90 for front, 110/80 for rear). Will update review after end of this month as i have a long ride planned.

• Oil leakage in Apache head gasket

Hello everyone.

I own an Apache RTR 180. I was away for a few weeks and my friend had my bike. When I came back, I noticed oil level very low. I gave my bike for servicing and after servicing, there is oil leaking from block piston and some white smoke from exhaust at 6000-7000 rpm.
Can somebody please suggest what should I do, coz I'm new here in Pune and don't know any reliable mechanic to trust on. Also SVC guys are of no help, they say it's normal and might be coz of overfilling of oil. So please someone suggest me what should I do.
A fellow member ( apachefan) suggested to seal head gasket with anabond, but that didn't help. Any suggestions will do.

Cheers

How old is your bike? How many Kms on odo?
Most likely the issue is the piston rings. The piston rings might have got damaged which would lead to unproper sealing of the combustion chamber and the parts below crankshaft due to which oil might enter in and get burnt along with petrol. Please get your piston rings checked.

There is a rev limiter in every bike which limits the engine RPM to avoid damage. This rev limiter cuts off the fuel supply whenever you redline thus protecting the engine.
10K is highly unlikely. Please get your air filter checked and cleaned and carb re-tuned again.

It was bought in 2013. Odometer counts 43423 kms. I generally drive around 6000-7000 rpms. The redline starts after 9000 rpms and I never went above 9000.

BTW thanks for the advice, I'll check with a mechanic of my friend. Thanks.

• Front wheel wobble Apache RTR 180

Hello All,

I got my both tyres replaced last week. After replacement i am feeling a wobble on handle bars. After examining further the wobble was due to the tyres as i can see the tyre was rotating in an oval fashion so which explained the wobble. I went to MRF service center and got the front tyre replaced. Also checked with my mechanic if any issues with the rim. But again after getting a new tyre from MRF issue still persists. I am not sure what can be the issue now. Please help me out as a long weekend is coming and i have a ride planned ahead.

thanks for your reply. i think the apache RTR 180 does not come with a revv limiter.

i will anyway get the air filter and carb checked

just curious why would you want to change your stock setup to the P220s?

Also would it be possible to fir the RTR200's bore oil cooler plus Fi kit onto the RTR180??

We can't repair shock absorbers of apache. But shoch absorbers of pulsae can be repaired easily.

PS: My bike is 4years old.
