Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Good lord, relax man. Get the bar end sliders tightened and stop worrying so much. It'll become smoother after the first service. Vibrations are part of the apache. Did you bother reading anything from the previous pages?Originally posted by Thump_85 View Post

Haha! Thanks for your response Valkyire. I did read through the pages but then I just wanted some reassurance from the experts here![emoji4]Originally posted by Valkyire View PostGood lord, relax man. Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hello everyone,
I want(have) to change the rear tyre of my RTR 160 (old Model).
I was really interested into the MRF Masseter but it seems like it is no where available near my location.
So, I need suggestions for any other options within 2.5K which will be best for city traffic with hot and dry roads. What do you call a Biker who doesn't wear a helmet? An organ donor.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
My RTR160 is currently running on MRF Zapper Vyde 120/80-17.. It has been 21.5K kms and looks like it's still good for 2-3K more.. It's actually a softer compound compared to stock tyres.. It has great grip and has saved me on panic braking several times (while trying to avoid collision with dogs , squids etcOriginally posted by Mir View PostHello everyone,

). It gives confidence while cornering too. I would recommend this one. I don't know it's current price, but I guess it might cost around 3K..
PS : There will be an increased height of 8mm (compared to stock), and a little slower acceleration since it's a wider (more contact patch) and heavier tyre. It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
I think the old model comes with 18 inch rear wheels. You get the zapper vyde in 100/90-18. Dont go for a size bigger than this if its 18 inch rear wheel. Should cost around 3k like mentioned previously.Everybody has their own version of TRUTH!!!!!!

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hi,
Bought a new rtr 160 a month back; 300kms on the odo as of today.
The rear disc brake gets heated up too much. Even after a ride of 5kms I cannot touch the disc. It's not so with the front disc which gets lukwarm in the same period. The wheel is rotating freely but not the way a weel with drum brakes would. They make a noise once every rotation like the pads are touching the disc at one place. I do not sit on the brakes or use too much rear brakes.
The TVS mechanic is saying that it's normal. What do you guys think?

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Get the disc assy dismantled and refit back on the bike. Ansd make sure the mechanic maintains proper clearances. What you're describing is when the assy is set too tight with pads always rubbing against the disc.Originally posted by BlueRider View PostWhat do you guys think?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
The most likely cause would be the timing chain or tappet. Get those checked. And yamalube is fine as long as you are happy with it. 10w40 grade is ideal for the rtr.Originally posted by deyranjan713 View PostHello.Guys i am facing a problem like engine noise, tapping noise odo running 20,560 using Yamalube 10w40 since from 6 months.Yamalube is good for rtr 180?? Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hello guys, its been a while since i posted.i have a serious problem with my bike 2010 model RTR180 white with 28K on odo.recently took it to a local mech as my mileage my mileage was pretty low around 33 KMPL range so i wanted to check what the problem was and i was shocked to hear what he had to say. His observations were as follows:-
1.the engine oil level was critically low ( i had him drain it and fill Shell Advance AX7 10W40) .approx 700-800 Ml of oil came out which is feel is not critically low.
Note-previous oil was Motul 5100 was was filled exactly 2100 kms back.i feel should this oil should last at least 3k to 4K right?
2.engine head was leaking oil(pics attached if anyone can confirm)
3. carburetor diaphram is gone and lot of other rubber parts of the carb(which he named but i cannot re-call) were worn out.
4.some engine key (the metal part attached in the pic) dropped when he drained the engine oil.and this "engine key" he claimed is an important part and he said he has to open up the engine to check if everything has been placed correctly.he also asked me to take this "engine key" to the authorized service center where i previously serviced my bike and ask them what this part was. He wants to hear what they have to say about this part.
5.the engine is overheating and not operating at normal temperature.
now the million dollar question is whom to trust? do i get my bike serviced from this mechanic or is he bluffing? should i take it straight to the TVS SVC?
please apache pundits share your thoughts.Last edited by pranav_salieri; 03-29-2017, 11:24 PM.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hi. Is 33 kmpl low for a 180 cc Apache? My GS150 returns ~50 kmpl at 65-70 kmph and I consider it healthyOriginally posted by pranav_salieri View PostHello guys, its been a while since i posted.i have a serious problem with my bike 2010 model RTR180 white with 28K on odo.recently took it to a local mech as my mileage my mileage was pretty low around 33 KMPL range so i wanted to check what the problem was and i was shocked to hear what he had to say. . Anyway, a loss of 100 ml does not seem very critical to me. If your mechanic opened the oil filter compartment, another 100 ml would flow out. For Apache, 1000 ml is the capacity for oil and oil filter change, no?
If the head end of the engine (piston rings, valve seals) have a problem, one would have white smoke on revving it slightly hard. The oil leaks on the cylinder head seem to be due to bad sealing. I know TVS uses a paste/Anabond-like compound there instead of gasket in other makes like Honda. Replenishing the paste (after removing the old one) or changing the gasket would solve the problem.
It seems to be a Woodruff key. But its not clear how he didn't know it (or) how the key fell off. Because assuming the magneto rotor/starter clutch was untouched, there is no way this key would jump out of position. Also, the key does not look damaged to me, to fall off like that. But yes, the internet has cases of Woodruff key falling in the pan while draining oil - but most of these were cars !
Did you do any work at the SVC on magneto/starter clutch earlier?
