can't say. But I can assure you that it is worth another try. May be after a few more K KMs on your odo. I dunno about other Elf products. I know about only the Moto 4 Gold 20w40.

        • 4500 kms report

The RTR has now crossed the 4500km mark and boy i could a see a remarkable change in the character of the machine as she keeps hogging up more miles. The ubiquitous vibrations have almost disappeared and the bike is smooth like a makkhan(yeah for a RTR!! ). There is a slight improvement in the performance too but i wish the bike had the topend surge like the Fi.I was doing a high speed run on NH and i found out the perfect cruising speed(high) which is 95-105km/hr.There is considerable pull from 105-120km/hr but after 120km/hr you have to crouch to make the bike hit the top speed.

For the first few thousand kms, i was disappointed by the performance/feel of the bike but the measure of my smile has started to widen just what i had experienced with my Victor.

Oh yeah, i get to ride the 180 only during alternate weekends, as i live 300kms off BBSR.My bro uses the bike, so the difference i feel is more telling because on every day to day ride it is really difficult to notice the difference, aint it!!

And guys whoever is facing the fork thud issue, refill the front shock absorber oil.The thud noise has completely vanished after that.Seems like someone dint do his duty properly as was the case with the rubber band for the tool box!!

          @prakash

You can only notice the difference of a new engine oil by clocking some kms, at least 500kms. And FYI, the knocking/overheating thing is no way related to engine oil. Rather than Poor Fuel/Improper Tuning>Engine knocking>Overheating. And yeah, all of the above experience is after i switched to Moto4Gold. I have been using it in my Victor from past 3 years.Even my friends having a Discover and a Apache have been using the same.

For those who are looking switching to a better engine oil, give a try to the newly launched Castrol Active 4T(with synthetic Technology). It rocks otherwise Elf Moto4 Gold/Motul30004T. As the bike is nearing 5k it times to switch to Power1 Semi-synthetic.

          • guys since long m facing two minor problems help if someone has got any solution

            1. during morning or cold start my engine jerks even after warming for 1-2 mins and driving 2-3 kms.

            2. sometimes the display fails to start and the starter doesnt work but as i kick the display comes to life and i can use the self start even if the engine hasnt started from the kick.earlier i thought that this was due to water ingress on the display but i stopped washing or putting any water on the display but still the problem is there.and my main dilemna is i cant be sure weather the display will work or not when i want to show the prob to the svc guys

              1. Check carb tuning, idle setting.
              2. Check display cables/battery/alternator.

              • @prakash
knocking is mainly due to bad fuel . so try to change your fuel .
If possible use shell noraml or shell super but i dont think shell petrol pump will be there in muvattupuzha so try relaince . Once you fil with speed or super petrol stick to it . if you change to ordianry petrol in between then aslo kncking will be there. so find a good petrol pump and use petrol only from taht pump and if you are usign normal petrol always use normal . Try this within 1 week knockign will be gone. i had the same issue due to bad fuel now using shell petorl no issues at all. But it will take one or twoo weeks to reduce knckign as the effect of old petrol will be there for soem time.

                • Regarding Elf Moto 4 Gold 20W40 Oil:

@Jithu:First of All ,I am not getting knocking sound now as it is resolved(tight valve clearance).Fuel Available Here is OK(After all kochi refinery is only 27kms from here LOL!).I will not be using speed/premium(additives) fuel .But ,How I wish Shell Pumps starts Operations in Kerala.

But ,I am very well aware of what you are telling.Severe knocking due to Poor Fuel(Spurious/adulterated whatever) ,I experienced with My Friend's HH CBZ Way Back in 1999 at Coimbatore. He need to go to a Particular Petrol Pump On Trichy Road to Fill the Fuel during those days.Difference was Visible.

But Yes , With RTR180 ,I suspected adulterated fuel(Once filled near cochin) as the culprit for knocking earlier. But It was not!(Although carb float was cleaned).Valve setting,Fuel tuning have an issue which is now resolved.

Regarding Elf Moto 4 Gold 20W40 Oil:
Why I was not replying earlier to many posts was ,because My Elf Moto 4 Gold experiment was a failure(Me bought 2 bottles ).I have the Oil for 150kms before changed to TRU4 Again.Indeed there is a difference in Engine Heat(overheating) as well as knocking sound. The Burnt Oil Smell is More than what TRU4 has. This all happened when the bike was at some 1200(IIRC) kms.May be Call it a Psychological barrier/Placebo whatever..

According to Me ,TVS TRU4 Seems good(till some 7K rpm).
Well ,If TVS Service allows ,I will get Gulf Pride 4T plus 20W40 on 2nd service.(Gulf Engine Oil is Distributed by TVS in Kerala)

PS:Tell Me Whether I ended Up Buying Some "Fake" Oil(No ,I guess!):

Just a quick question, RTR 180 requires 1000ml (1 liter) of engine oil as per spec., but you are showing a 900 ml of oil. Is there any mistake over there?

                          no batteries are fine
see i insert the keys and turn it to on then ideally the display should do a self check which it doesn't so to start the bike i kick the kick starter after which the display comes to life positively always.

What is the display behavior when you do self-start?
