When a new engine starts running in, the valves sort of bed into the valve ports and starts fitting each other properly. This causes the tappet clearance to get a bit tighter as the run in continues. So, if the tappet is not set a bit loose from the factory, this will eat up all the clearance and the valves will not close properly anymore. This will cause loss of power and the valves will burn out and need to be replaced. That is why a looser tappet is any day preferable to a tighter than required tappet. Looser tappets will only cause some noise and restrict the top end a bit, but will not harm the engine.

So, before you ask any mechs to resolve the noise, think again. They can easily tighten it beyond the specifications and cause valve damages. And these mechs never use feeler gauge to set the clearance properly.

              • A small query

Today i noticed that there are circular marks on the outer surface of the rear disc. They are a bit deeper than the front disc. When i touch the outer surface of the front disc it feels smooth whereas the rear one feels rough. And also i have noticed that after a ride the rear disc gets hot but the front disc dosen't. Is this normal or any problem with my rear disc? My bike has done only 720kms and first service over.

The thing is , I'm not seeing much of these complaints in other bikes like that of Honda Unicorn & others.

Are Menacers the most complaining fellows? just kidding....

Someone can share the positive experiences with this bike..for me.

As my previous decision, I going to book this bike tomorrow Can't take my eyes away from it!! and will join your Elite owners group!!

Can anyone tell me which is a better TVS showroom in Bangalore? (service & spares)

I got my Victor from Ramkay-TVS, Adyar, Chennai in 2003. Their service is pretty good and responsive.

                          • Drag Experience ...

Today two of my best friends joined me for some fun (One with P220 DTSi and other with ZMA-R). Mischievous thoughts ran on our minds and in no time we were on our main area where we carry out drag races occasionally. Clearly, my darling RTR din't stand in front of the P220 but we achieved some good figures.

                            Stats for RTR 180::
                            Road Length = 1 km
Top Speed Achieved = 121 kmph
                            0-60 kmph Timer Recording = 3.4 sec

I really felt that my bike was even rising from the front while taking it in the second gear too while the drag. The light weight of the bike makes it to rise from the front in first and second gears. All in all, I din't quite like the riding position of the P220 as now I have driven my RTR a lot. P220 felt like a grandpa bike(no offense ) to me in terms of riding position and handle-bar ergonomics. I simply love the riding position and the handle-bars of the Menace. Rest I am still exploring the bike and will try to get the best out of it.

Attached are some mobile cam pics of the RTR meter recordings(Bad quality though).

                            Peace

How much difference was there between the P220 and the 180. Also did you dragged against ZMA?

Also i think in a 1km run it could have hit higher speeds!!
