Cold Starting and Idling RPM
Guys, I have been having a bit of trouble with cold starting these days. Even with choke it takes too many kicks to get my bike running. I later discovered that the svc guy had set the idling rpm at 1K. Would that have any effect on cold start?
Actually I discussed the issue of Idling rpm with him at length but he kept on saying that the 1400rpm in the manual and brochures is when the engine is hot. I replied that manual only says idling rpm not when hot or cold.
Any ways increasing the idling rpm solved my cold start issue but is that the real solution?

That's the HECU(Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit) of the ABS version. At the time of wheel getting locked, HECU takes over the control, modulates the brake pressure continuously to keep the bike in the most effective braking zone, thus ensuring precise maneuvers.Originally posted by Aneesh@4GHz View PostGuys, any one please tell me what is this thing? This is from Apache RTR 180 ABS

THe SVC guy was right.. The idling rpm should be 1400 when the engine is hot and idling should not be set when the engine is cold.Originally posted by New guy View PostGuys, I have been having a bit of trouble with cold starting these days. Serivce indicator does not have any sensorsOriginally posted by bhadoriabtp View Postplease advise me about service indicator sensor, where this sensor is placed in the bike and how it works.it may give false signals too.
It's already programmed so that the service light pops up at definite intervals referring to the 1st service, 2nd service and 3rd service and it goes on. The purpose of this light is to remind the owner for timely service

Then may be i am not kicking correctly. I hold down the choke for about 30 secs and then give a full kick after releasing it. Also Apache 180 seems to have a harder kick than pulsars.Originally posted by streetglowie View PostTHe SVC guy was right.. Any other technique i should be using ?Last edited by New guy; 05-28-2011, 03:45 PM.

I haven't used the choke even once. I just switch on the ignition and kick start her with mild or no throttle, she starts within a kick or twoOriginally posted by New guy View PostThen may be i am not kicking correctly. and I don't find the kicker too hard!

Done 560 kms. First service yesterday. I don't use throttle when kicking. and whenever it starts i see the idling needle a little below 1k. is that OK?Originally posted by streetglowie View PostI haven't used the choke even once. I guess it is okay at cold start. Anyway, u can adjust the idling rpm by the vertical screw near the carb and DO NOT ADJUST WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. Drive around for 10kms and adjust it when the engine gets warm. 1.2-1.4rpm is good for a hot engine.Originally posted by New guy View PostDone 560 kms. First service yesterday.
