Just a day back i have read about some guy who bought a 2nd hand R15 and had this needle indication prob, he opened up the whole thing himself and managed to reset it... trying to find out that post...

if no longer in warranty then you can open up the meter and reset the tacho by hand . i had opened mine once

Guess you are revving her too much lucky that the needle didn't break out

Bike has warranty uptil July. But i do not want to go for a new one.

And are you facing any issues after you opened it. Because i fear once opening of the console it would invite dust/moisture. Is there any DIY posted elsewhere?

I have already replaced one @ 8000kms. Now the odo reads 17200kms.

And yes it happens when you rev the bike while the speedo does the self/health test!!

you can seal it with a transparent silicone sealent if you like to make it dust and waterproof . no diy on this that i know of , you just have to remove the speedo from bike and then unscrew 5-6 screws on the back of the meter to remove the plastic glass faceplate . then just set the tacho with with your hand at zero .be gentle just dont break the tacho needle as it moves in 1 direction only when power off . do test it by plugging the meter connector and checking to see what you did was right as removing meter is a bit tedious .and dont fully remove the warranty sticker on meter just peel it enough

            • I changed my ideal rpm when the engine was cold. Will it cause any problems?

From what i've come to know, Motul and Shell are very good brands. I would suggest to go for Shell Advance AX7 (Semi -synth) the one i'am using now or Ultra (Full synth). Use these only if proper running in of the engine is complete. Otherwise go for Shell Advance AX5 mineral
The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

I am using the same oil.Shell AX7..Overall,I believe the oil is good.Though gears still feel hard and it takes some good effort to shift.

I have done two trips one for nearly 300 km and other 200 km.Total kilometers done so far on this oil is 1100km.While the oil doesn't blacken out like the TRU4 but every time I check it I find the oil-level drops. What could be the reason?

OT:Anyone read this month's OverDrive magazine. They have pitched CBR alongside all other bikes, including the RTR180.Interesting to see that the RTR is not even a full second slower than the R15 around the track.

So AX7 is indeed a better oil right? I've just started to use it...
BTW, i could shift gears 80% of the time butter smoothly with Tru4, valvoline minerals , i don't know, somehow i could. Yeah, it took lots of patience to find the right way.
Thank you bud for the OD mag info, definitely going to buy it. I always knew A180 could be that close to the R15...and yes, only our ride could stand a chance with the yammie

I have question: Can we retrofit the ABS kit in the RTR 180? Did anyine check that out? I know people asked that question just when the RTR ABS was out, wanted to confirm if someone asked their local SVC station about it.

well i did inquire about getting the entire dc system to my rtr 180 and the svc confirmed it was possible. would ask about the abs too. in rabale, mumbai there is a product you may have heard of called safe ride abs which gives the effect of abs via a mechanical device. costs rs 1400 + fitting charges. you could check it out if interested.

I had this problem couple of time. Local mechanic manually set the needle to 0 and pressed it. Not a complicated job and no need to change anything.

                              • @shivank-i think even then everyone will agree that RTR is the place to be in if you ride in city limits. i think still RTR 180 is a better all round bike. but if TVS can improve the quality and reduce vibes!
