I will definitely take some snaps at showroom, but what about these dead Batteries? How to inspect those?Originally posted by madelikeagun View PostPlease do click some pics at the showroom. Do a thorough check, especially the notorious dead batteries, and read this forum. Our fellow TBTS owners have penned down a lot of information.

im planning to go for osram night breaker,, what i wanna know is how can a 55w bulb replace a 35w one,, wont the setup give the same 35w power?Originally posted by madelikeagun View PostHi Rajesh,
Congratulations on purchase of your bike. Please do post some pictures.
All the issues that you have faced is exactly what I have as well. The Headlight dipper is too short. I replaced the bulbs to Philips Diamond 5000K 60/55W H4 and solved the headlight issue. It glows like HID and Im in no mood to fix a real HID with Projector at this point.
Horns are best to scare away mice. You might as well purchase the horns that come with the Bajaj Avenger. My friend has it and its pretty loud and he makes fun of mine.
Dont worry about headlight being hot. These headlights are designed for 60W at least. I can say that because the Classic 500 has almost the same light setup but comes with 55W bulb.
I hope you dont have any oil dripping issues, because I do have and going to get them fixed.
For the tyre puncture, you should have claimed a tyre replacement. Tyres do come with a 1 year warranty, some 6 months. The warranty means, manufacturer guarantees the tyre wont puncture, and if it does, you get a replacement. But I do not know if this holds true with MRF. I got the first punch at 11000Kms. I replaced my CEAT tyres on my old Unicorn under warranty when it got a puncture.
I suggest you replace your stock tyres as the the MRF tyres are such a disaster on the highway.
Enjoy your ride.

My Friend,Originally posted by akshayrbk View Postim planning to go for osram night breaker,, what i wanna know is how can a 55w bulb replace a 35w one,, wont the setup give the same 35w power?
Your bull runs on a 12V 14Amps Battery. And the 18 Pole Magneto generates 220 watt. You literally have a generator running beneath you. Your system is designed to take extra load. A 60W headlamp is a piece of cake.
I have 2 X 55W foglamp and 60/55W headlamp. I DO NOT switch them all together. I have switch for each bulb. And I have a charging station for my GPS/mobile as well.
Here is your math:
Your TBTS runs a 12V 14Amp Battery. Lets say you installed a 60W headlamp. So with headlamps switched on your system takes the following load.
Headlamp 60W + Tail lamp 5W + Brake Lamp 21W + Speedometer lamp 3.4W + Hi-Beam indicator 1.7W + Neutral lamp 1.7W + Turn signal on dash 1.7W + Turn signal 10W = (104.5Watt / 12V ) = 8.7 Amp. Which also means you can still add some gizmo horns and lights, your system wont overload. Just don't strain the system with maximum load.
What these showroom guys do from my understanding is, they super charge your battery before delivery. So the charge stays on for a while. When you get home and try starting your bike, the battery is dead. I had my bike battery replaced in 24 hours of delivery and guess what they did. They replaced the battery from another display bull in the the showroomOriginally posted by abhi135 View PostI will definitely take some snaps at showroom, but what about these dead Batteries? . Don't even ask me about service station. I can write a novel.
BTW, I enquired about some tires. The Dunlop rear 3.50/19" tires with the block design comes with unconditional warranty of 4 years. My goodness. What confidence. It costs 2000/-Last edited by madelikeagun; 05-09-2012, 09:26 PM.Motorcycle Trip log - Summer ride to N. Sagar | Leh 2012 - A story told in pictures | Winter in Darjeeling 2018 | Summer in Goa 2018 |

The bike looked really great to me.
The tank was really huge.
some changes that i saw :
1-> RE written on the clutch & front brake leaver
2-. RE written on the foot pegs
3-> The fuel cap is on the right of the tank, and a retro one, and not the same as current thunderbird.
4-> the bike had totally different meters.
5-> From behind the bike looked thick ( the current one looks skinny from behind ).
6-> the sit is much more comfortable.
7-> The tail light looks great.
8-> Totally new silencer. But the sound is the same as the classic 500 with a normal straight silencer.
9-> same battery.
10-> brakes are good infact. much better than the current models of enfield.
What i liked the most in that bike is the looks of the bike. I just loved it.
Engine is the same as the classic 500, no changes done other than this one comes in black color.
did not get the bike for long to check more.______________________________________________________________

Oil Leakage + Oil Overfill - Interim report
All,
After filling the oil again at the service center, I wanted to monitor exactly from where the oil is leaking. As shown in the picture above, Oil is leaking for the highlighted area. I believe that the gasket is the problem. Have any one of you experienced the same issue? What needs to be done to rectify the same? Would my local Service Centre be able to handle the same? I have another 500 kms to 2nd service.
I have been riding my TBTS within city limits and I do see a fine oil layer over the bottom part part of the fins that gathers dust. So the leak is not huge as one noticed during the long drive, but definitely there.
Your views, suggestions, experiences, solutions welcomed!!
take care and ride safe

The pillion seat is good. But the back rest has become small though. But that in fact looks good. The seat is big enough for any one.Originally posted by Rahul.Gvli View PostIs the pilon seat equally confortable? B'coz from pics, it seems to be a li'l smaller than 350...

What i feel is there will be some oil leakage in your bike. You cannot stop it. Its a part of bullet that you have to leave with. But yah compared to the old cast iron engine, its pretty less.Originally posted by rkavthekar View PostAll,

If i am not wrong, the this is your first bullet. So just chill.
if you are still not satisfied, then take you bullet to a service center, and compare with other bikes there, and also show it to the service adviser.
Hope this info helps you
But after seeing the pic of your engine, i must say that you have very little oil leakage, and your engine really looks clean. I dont think that you should even get worried once also.______________________________________________________________

I should agree with Surajit. I see engine oil stains all the time in and around the engine. The service center once a while seals the leak with a grey colour sealant. You can get the same from automobile spare stores if you know how to seal the leak.Originally posted by surajit09 View PostWhat i feel is there will be some oil leakage in your bike. Sorry guys for creating a bit of confusion. That picture I uploaded was taken from the net just to point out the problem area. I will upload the actual picture of my TBTS in a day or so. Sorry about that. Should have mentioned clearly in my original post.Originally posted by madelikeagun View PostI should agree with Surajit. Well, I went on an another ride yesterday, a short one @120kms. Just to check on the oil levels at regular intervals and see how much it does really leaks oil.
I am slightly confused. Before starting I checked the oil level in the Window. It was above the "upper Level" or "High" mark almost touching top of the window. I rode about 20 odd kms. Parked the bike on main stand, shut off the engine and checked the level. I could see the level coming down till "upper Level" or "high" mark. I could also see oil on the fins, but not running down on the engine.
I climbed a ghat and down on the other side, I parked my TBTS again on main stand, engine shut. Again same, saw oil level dropping down and settling at just about "upper Level" or "High" Mark. Satisfied that there is no significant high levels of oil leakage, I rode my bike for another 40 odd kms that consisted another ghat (up and down the other side). I parked by TBTS on main stand, engine shut. Oil level did not fall down as I had seen on last two occasions. Level was significantly above the levels that I had seen previously. Ideally, It should have come down to settle at "high" mark. But it was well above the same. Almost at the level before I started the bike in the morning.
Why would this happen?
Anyways, looks like though there is oil leak, not as significant to cause me worry about engine seize. The fins are wet enough with oil, but not flowing oil. As you guys say, something that I should live with!!! After 14 years of Japanese bike with no engine work and no oil leakages, I guess, it takes its time to get used to this.
take care and ride safely

Here is the actual picture of the oil leak. All the upper fins are clean. Only the bottom ones are smeared with oil and dirt.
