I should get around 40, but I already had a feeling I was getting around 30 only. I have had a mix of riding in heavy, medium and low traffic. Even if I consider traffic, riding style, weather, tyre pressure etc is the culprit, I should still be in the higher 30s. Maybe the carb has been kept rich during the run in period.
I suggest you fuel up your tank in Shell petrol bunks, I have seen 4-6 kms more mileage when I fuel it in Shell(Try to fill up in the morning before 9AM, there is a big story behind this., ie., about density and thickness and all.[you can Google]). Maintain air pressure as Front: 24ps and Rare: 38ps.
Follow these and you can expect upto 35-38 kmpl depending upon traffic.

I was riding on the highway yesterday and heard a thumping Enfield closing in on me from behind...it passed by me and it was the new TBTS. At first I thought the guy has changed the silencer, but as I drove past him from the right I was shocked to see the stock silencer The thump was nice and loud like a glasswool goldie or Idori.. I thought I'd ask the guy how he did it...but since we were on the highway there were no stops (signals) so I could not ask him.

Does anyone out here have any idea how it was done?

Well if that was stock one you are sure then the possibility is: he must have removed one or two baffles from the silencer (would have got the silencer cut, removed the baffles, welded and chromed. Don't get surprised, many has done that) and must have stuffed some glasswool in it.

Next time you meet him, ask him for sure

Guys with the new TB 350 please mention what is the average you are getting? At least, that will give a better idea to everyone of how much to expect.[/QUOTE]

The last time I checked (using tankful method) I calculated the mileage to be 37kmpl. I was shocked myself because I've always got a mileage of around 32 - 34. This time after refueling I also got the air pressure checked. I usually keep it at 25F and 35R. the guy filling the air told me that he didnt fill but reduced it from 35F and 45 R I was shocked again. While I drove out of the station I was thinking about which pump had I got my last air refill done. Thats when I realized I had got air refilled at a local garage after getting Teflon polishing done. That guy had used the hand held device to check air pressure. I told him to maintain the same pressure (25F 35R), looks like that chap got it all wrong.

But the whole incident left me wondering, was it the excessively high air pressure in the tyres lead to excessively high mileage?

Thanks TwilightRider! I will check if the tyre has been pulled back to tighten the chain. I had not thought on that possibility. This issue also started immediately after the bike returned from the servicing. From that point of view, your suggestion seems more valid.

Regarding your issues on fuel gauge in new TB's, its a very common issue in new TB's. While you wait for the RE of fix the problem, you will have to rely on odometer regarding the status of fuel in the tank.

            take care and ride safely

            • Over the past 10 months of my ownership experience with the TB 350, I have observed an average mileage of around 40 kmpl in city riding conditions (it varies between 37 to 42). And when it comes to long trips involving highway riding, the Thunderbird has given me a very good mileage of 45-46 kmpl..

Yeah, I know the logic behind filling early morning. The tankful I calculated from I had to fill in the afternoon, no choice. But, the present tankful I filled late at night. Next time, early morning surely!

Air pressure you quoted is too high from the recommended 20/22-30/32. I know increased air pressure helps in higher average, but it reduces the braking and handling of the bike because of lesser spread/contact of tyres with road.

My 2nd service is up this coming week, let me see what ASC has to say. I had thought it would be around 35 in city & 40 on the highway. Also have a list of things I need them to attend to

Shell is independent ie., Pvt.Ltd.... like Reliance.
I think Shell is not available in Mumbai. If it is not there then fill in @ Reliance bunks.
I used to get 32-37 kmpl within city (depends on traffic and road condition). I should once take her out on HighWays :P

Recently I started feeling more vibrations in the bike, anyone suggest me.

I remember they just abandoned their petrol stations before someone bought them. Maybe they are operating in cities where the tax is not putting them in losses.

For vibrations, check tyre pressures, then get handlebar adjusted at ASC (won't take 2 mins). Do you use riding gloves? Apart from safety, I notice that the hands feel the vibrations a lot less.

Its not only for hands but also leg(foot rest).... When rpm is increasing mode i feel heavy vibrations but not when I maintain at constant speed( 20,30 or 40 kmph speed). I don't why??????????????????
I am shifting the gears at the right timings and maintaining the speeds.

What they were doing in the daylight, they only know. Too many bikes & no proper organisation, just that they work hard. They said come again tomorrow, I refused. Stood with a flashlight & supervised the anti-rust removal, then forced them to get it washed, polished everything. Small things like removing rust, spraying silver polish has to be told. Left ASC after 9.30. But very happy with how the bike looks now after months of forced monsoon ugliness. It ran great too! Waiting to take a long spin this weekend.

Confirm what is the maximum speed I can take to now? 2nd service & 1400 kms over.
Running period not over yet so I suggest still stick to running regulations and do not cross 80

People suggest not to cross 80 kmph until 3000 kms are covered. You have just covered 1400 kms only, so suggest not to cross 80 kmph(you can go till 100kmph but don't cover too kms in that speed).

Yes thats 2K. I had read a very nice and informative article about the significance of running period for Bullets. Well if I come across , would definitely share with you guys.

                            Hi All,

I am going to get my TB 350 Twilight in a few weeks. Before I take delivery, can you guys help me with getting to know what all I need to make sure during PDI? I have read in some places about rusting and leaking oil and all. What are the places to look for these and if any other things which need to be checked, as me being a first time RE rider, I may be fleeced easily.

                            Thanks

Congrats friend. Check for the paint finish on all areas. Rust mainly on silencer, handle bar, breaks, grab rail, rims etc. Also check if the tank cap can be esily opened and closed/locked.

                                Hi All,

I had a minor accident with a pothole on the highway before my second servicing. The bike hit hard in the pothole, luckily I didn't lose my balance, and there was absolutely no injury. but both rims on the bike were bent. I had them replaced during the second servicing, and it was all good for a few hundred kilometers.

I had to park my bike for a couple of weeks, as I was out of town, and now when I ride it, i experience that the handle is a bit unstable. and whenever the bike hits a rough patch on the road, there is a shuddering hoise from the front part. Just today morning, I noticed that the big nut in the centre of the assembly holding the front fork(I think its attaches the handle bar to the chasis) (excuse me for poor knowledge of proper nomenclature) was lose. I tightened it(by hand), but still that shuddering noise comes when i ride on a rough road. I wonder if it has anything to do with the pothole bump i had, or is it something any of you have experienced as well? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Will be taking it to a mechanic this saturday anyway, but should i ride it to work(60 km both ways) till then?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am thinking of making some cosmetic changes to the bike, And as most of the new TB owners do, i want to change the RVMs, can anyone suggest places in Mumbai/Thane where I can find the bar end mirrors suitable for the new Thunderbird 350?

                                Thanks for your suggestions.
