  • Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences

Been a long time since i posted here!

Finally, at long last i was able to fit projector and hid to my tbts. Got these from RDMotovil, set me back by close to 8k. I first came across RDmotovil on xbhp only. Projector is an AES Q5. I have no prior experience with these, but the ballast which came with the kit was super small and 'seemed to be' of reasonably good quality. Beam throw has good reach and spread without noticeable hotspot. I think in terms of hotspot, it compares favourably to morimoto mini which i was considering (my knowledge is only from 'beam' pics of the morimoto!) Unfortunately, i had to settle for bulb temperature of 6000k and 35w ballast. On hitting the road, i found out that having a hotspot is better when faced against blinding high beams from oncoming traffic Definitely an upgrade from my 60w bulb, but considering that the beam pattern is very focussed for the oem reflector i expected more from the HID. I'll try to exchange the ballast for a 35w one, that should probably do the trick.

Projector would not fit in the space between oem reflector and the clear lens, so reflector was removed and projector was directly installed in the casquette. The wiring hidden between casquette and reflector was unceremoniously dumped outside headlamp assembly and now its hanging out there exposed to the elements behing the front number plate. I have already used up the space in the tank cover extensions (on which side reflectors are mounted) to hide the hid adapter and the ballast so now i am at a loss as to where to hide the tangled mass of wiring. Would really appreciate any suggestions from you guys!

I fell in love with the official AGV MLG 1901 helmet the first time I laid my eyes on it while at the showroom to pick up my bird. I asked the price and they said Rs 4500, it just broke my heart. I felt like a teenager hopelessly in love with a girl i just met, I asked her out and she just said NO.

So I decided to have my revenge. I spent months making plans to get myself my own MLG helmet. And now, after almost 6 months, I have my own Vega MLG helmet. And the cost Rs 1500 only.

Good job but there definitely difference between quality of both and I don't think the visor is UV protected and scratch proof unlike AGV one. Nevertheless good paint job, or that are stickers? Did it yourself?

Ofcourse! Just adding radium sticker to the helmet will not match the quality of AGV. Nonetheless, Vega is a good brand and the helmet is value for money. The way I see it is, I saved 3K And Yes I did it myself.

            @TranquilRage.

Fixed the Lose nut problem at local mechanic, Now it handles fine, and all the noise is gone as well. So I'm back to riding.

On my second query, I was unable to find anyone selling bar end mirrors around thane/mulund areas in mumbai. If anyone has insalled those, can you please help me out here?

            Thanks.

Handlebar you will have to check occasionally. After I had that loose nut problem, the next problem I had was that the front side of the ride felt too hard. In this service, they adjusted the handlebar and cleaned it I think, so haven't got that feeling again.

PresentlyI'm having problem of front brake noise, they said they cleaned the brake, disk, calipers in service but I still feel some noise, though less. Sometimes, it's like that hard friction noise (though the volume has reduced), sometimes feels like some light thing is moving inside creating some tune with the tyre rotation, can't perfectly describe it, it's like you know maybe a payal or necklace that you rotate round in your hand and all the beads make a small jhing-jhing metallic/glassy sound.

I also did something stupid, to remove that noise I sprayed very little WD 40 in 3 places - 1 at the place the disk goes into/is covered by the caliper, 2 at one surface of the disk pad and 3 at the center circle of the tyre/rim. I am having a little reduced braking efficiency in my front brake now. I read today that it was the wrong thing to do, so I just wiped those areas with cloth dipped in mild soap & water, then cloth dipped in little old aftershave and then plain cloth. Hopefully, some residue of WD 40 has come off and the rest will come off over time. Is there any adjustment that can be done for the front brake to become tighter? Manual has for rear brake & clutch only.
              Noted the tagging advise.

I had faced the same issue with the brakes, and had done the same stupid thing.. with WD40 . Breaking was crazy after that, but I cleaned it right up, and it wore off in a couple of days. Now it breaks fine, but i am getting the same sound again from my rear brakes now, I wonder what this is.

Earlier someone in the forum said that the brake discs are getting tuned, and the noise will go away, but after 3kKm i think they should be tuned fine, Maybe they havent got the breaking right in this model?? Let us see.

These are the sites(mentioned below) where u can get... but too costly... If you are ready to spend so much then ok... otherwise u need to wait.
If you have someone in US/Uk then you can get it from there (cheaper).

Hey don't do crazy things on disc brakes its sensitive... Only thing you can do is to maintain it cleanly(my suggestion, I am also doing the same thing). If it is sounding too heavily, check if there are marks on the disc brakes(very minute is ok but many and thick is not ok). If you find thick line then your disc pads are worn out... its time to change. usually in the rainy season you will experience this because the mud will be settling near the pads and it will make noise.

Thanks for the lists, but i would have preffered to take a look at the actual thing, see how it fits, looks etc, before buying. If i dont get that, I guess buying online is my only option. The round chromes look nice btw.

The performance of the TBTS or any RE for that matter just cannot be compared to the Pulsar or any other "INDIAN" sports bike. The characteristics of RE and the way it delivers the power is very different from the others. Did you not have a test ride before booking it?

Look my friend, you have to set your mind to it when your buying an RE, else you will be in for a surprise. Both good and bad!

Which dealer in Mumbai have you booked it from? I booked it in Oct'12 and got the delivery in April'13. Tomorrow I will complete 6 months since delivery.
