but some people say the noise will reduce after 4-5k kms......
    is it true...?
At what is IDLING--RPM for engine...?
My tappet noise was gone after first service.
    Idiling rpm is 1k.

And how do you guys measure mileage. It is almost impossible. I was trying the reserve to reserve method, but the reserve indicator is itself faulty.

Why do you say reserve indicator is faulty? I use reserve to reserve method to calculate mileage. Reset the trip meter to zero as soon as you have to turn your fuel cock to reserve, remember or note down the liters when you refuel, turn your fuel cock back to normal, as soon as you have to turn the cock back to reserve, check the kms on the trip meter and divide by the liters to get your kmpl reading or average. The other way is full tank to full tank but for that you have to use the same fuel pump, same dispenser and use the auto cut off feature to ensure some accuracy, very difficult though, reserve to reserve is much simpler.

I get FE of around 40-41 kmpl.

My ownership review of the 2013 RE Thunder Bird 350cc

I had ordered for my Falcon (read: TB, I call her Falcon) on Sept 24th 2013 and was given a waiting period of 3 months from the dealer in Kolkata (read Austin Motors, Park Street). After numerous phone calls and repeated inquiries on the delivery date, finally I got a call on 8th December, 2013 that my bike was ready for delivery. I initially thought of saving up for my Falcon but couldn't gather all the moolahs in time. Hence I went the finance route. After clearing all documents and payment+finance, I got my Falcon delivered on 11th December 2013.

Now the model which I selected was a Twilight Blue version and it was the show room model that I took. Leaving aside all formalities I rode my Falcon back home, being the proud owner of a mean machine. I got an additional RE Helmet which costed me INR 3000 (sic !)

I have had done the usual rituals and followed the (hard to maintain) 50-60 Kmph, idling at 1k, Kickstart for 2 mins etc till now.

I have clocked 4.8 Kms till now, mostly home to office and back and weekend short rides. My second service got over and now I am awaiting my 3rd free service.

Issues till now (I don't call them Major ones)

        1. Loosening of the chain while riding with the clutch half pressed in 1st gear
        2. Suspension problem (got it adjusted during 2nd service)
        3. Once I filled up air in a local shop and I didn't measure the air pressure. It made my front wheel go nuts. The nuts and blots became very loose and every bump made my Falcon jump in the air. Adjusted now.
        4. Filling up air in the rear wheel is a hassle. Airpump guys have a horrid time finding the perfect placement.
        5. Horn switch needs to be pressed real hard (maybe due to my once in 2 weeks washing ritual)

Now as any bullet-er has in his mind (I am not an exception), I am planning for a trip to Ladakh Leh region. But as a warm up, I plan to visit Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan.
I am really worried about my clutch cables, clutch plate and if I would ride pillion, would it pull in that high altitude?

I am also looking for a exhaust change. Maybe to a Sans Inc Goldstar or anything with the bass.

Apart from these minor niggles, I am in love with my Falcon and its been my only companion for me in a lonely city (Read : I have been transferred from Bangalore to Kolkata, so few/no friends here)

        Regards.Respect.Ride.

          Hi all,

My baby has done 4300kms now... I can hear a weird sound, when i bring her to a stop, not coming from the engine but from someplace behind me. Does a slightly loose chain cause such problems? Also, has anyone tried improving the headlight? I was planning for a HID in the projector.. for night rides on the off beaten tracks..

          Cheers and ride safe..

Hello guys. Havent posted in a while.

I finished 1000K with my TBTS and now am due to second service (3 months completed). I dont commute everyday using my bike, just 2-3 days a week hence the low mileage.

So far the ride has been comfortable with a few observations/ comments.

            - I am short in height so had to get the seat slightly recurved so that the original design was maintained but my legs dont splay out. Getting the bike straight up in case it tilted beyond a specific angle was hell in the early stages. Now I am used to it. Also I travel in Andheri mumbai which is full of ups and downs on major roads so having your legs reach down completely is advisable on such roads.

            - The speedometer console is rather loosely attached and on heavy bumps it gets a huge jerk.

            - Idling rpm is 1K and the bike usually gets to this after 15-20 seconds of running in the morning.

            - I noticed that sometimes the bike starts knocking at 5th gear on heavy slopes and have to downshift. My colleague who owns bullet does not face this problem (heavy crank obviously).

But overall this is a good and comfortable ride even in city traffic. Just need to have lots of patience waiting in traffic......this bike is definitely not for weaving through cars......mainly due to its long rake angle. Straight and cruising is the best way to go.

A question for the experienced riders..

What spares are recommended to he carried along for a longish ride? I'm going to the isg2g planned on xbhp, and would like to be prepared. This is my first time going for a ride more than 300kms. So please advise.

The bike as such should not require much, for precaution sake, we should carry a clutch and accelerator cable, spare tubes and chain lube. 300 kms is not long and the whole route is through population, hardly any long long stretch without towns pr villages around. With breaks also, it should not take more than 7 hours.

Nice idea, you take the lead, decide the date, I am sure this will be fun.

Well update on my bike, completed 3000k in around 2.5 months, bike given for second service today. Jobs to be done:

                      1. Tail lamp assembly slightly off, getting it aligned
                      2. Steering nut/T cone tightening as it gives a slight noise at a speed breaker or pothole
                      3. Some hissing noise from the front brake when applied
                      4. Have asked for oil change

Picked up spare clutch and accelerator cable, cost 295 for both.

That's awesome running in 2.5 months bro!! Good luck with the servicing.. I hope the ASC in navi mumbai do a metter job than those in Thane. I get mine serviced from bhandup now a days. But Ive finished all my 4 free services, and I think im gonna find a mech to work on my bird henceforth. I need to do a bit of carb tuning, My bike loses a bit of power between 60-80kmph. Need to have that looked at.

About the ride.. Let me start working out a plan, Although, I am not such a frequent tourer as yet, and the only road I know well is the NH-3 ride to Igatpuri. Its a fantastic road for a one day/bf ride. combination of straight patches and twisties at the kasara ghat.

If you have other suggestions, please do send them.

For rides from Mumbai, there are majorly 4 directions:

                          1. NH4 towards Pune - Khopoli, Lonavla, Malavli, Kamshet etc.
                          2. NH3 - towards Nashik - Kasara, Igatpuri, Bhandardara (diversion from Ghoti) etc.
                          3. NH8 - towards Surat - diversions to Kelva beach, Daman etc.
                          4. NH17 - towards Goa or Alibag - Western coast beaches like Alibag, Kashid, Murud, etc.

Pick a route, all road conditions are above average..

2000 kms, Around 2 months ( bought on feb 25). 1st service done. Mileage( checked once, reserve to reserve) 37 kmpl.

                            Issues

                            1. Oil leak in gear box, couldnt be rectified in first service. He has promised he will in second.
                            2. Wheel alignment after a crash, when a bike crashed on my front wheel. Rectified.
                            3. Right now, T-cone nut loose after riding on a horrible road.
                            4. Vibs in the foot rest in first/ second gear at 30-40 rpm.

Bike is awesome. Performance is awesome. Brakes awesome. Looks awesome. Satisfied. The bike is very stable, took it off road a lot to beat traffic, once at a high speed, and it performs beautifully, almost like a dirt bike

Changed rear view mirrors to avengers.

Have done two trips from roorkee to delhi and back. Couldnt resist and rode at about 100-110 in streches, but above 80 a lot. I hope this doesn't cause any problems later on. Its just too damn hard to control in a highway.

                            Some pics from my trips.

I really need a mobile charger installed. When to chwla auto spares in karol bagh, all he had was a charger with a watch, which i felt was not needed, and a cigerette charger which i dont know if it can charge my lumia. Any suggestions. Very desperate as there is no point in having a mobile holder without a charger, the battery dies too quickly and at crucial moments.

You should have controlled the urge brother.. You really should have... Proper run in ensures that the engine gets in a good shape.. But about now, whatever damage that could have been done is probably done... Lets hope you don't face too many conplications later on..
