Does anyone know of a good mechanic/garage for servicing the new thunderbirds in/around thane?? I am going to get my last free service done from the ASC at teen haat naka, and after that I realy do not wish to see their faces, but I might have to unless I can find a trustworthy mechanic or garage for my subsequent periodic services.

If anyone knows such a person, kindly let me know.

Cheers!

Does anyone know what is the Delivery time for this one or TBS500 in Bangalore. Is it wise to book it from chennai if the Delivery time is shorter. Thanks in advance.

Hello guys.
I have been a silent reader of this thread, but as i have got my bike delivered now, i knew i was bound to ask something, and it has finally happened.

Got my bike delivered on 25th Jan, 2014.
250 kms on the odo till now.

Issues:

The left mirror cracked, have to replace with new mirror.
Anyone know the cost?

Heard some screeching noise while applying the brake. Can hear sometimes when i press it hard.

My friend, who drive it when i first bought it, and again today, said he could feel a bit more vibrations. Even though i didnt seem to notice them.

Head some noise in the engine in 3rd-4th gear, not sure what it was exactly. Like something was loose. Even though it disappeared later.

oil leak in the engine, just a little bit.

I never seem to know what is the fuel level. It was on the last bar, when to fill, could only fill 12 lts till the cap.

First of all, Congrats on your purchase! and welcome to the family. Enjoy your thunderbird, as you most likely will!

Coming to the issues:

Did you crash, or did the bike take a fall? Just asking because you mentioned the broken mirror.

If that is the case, the vibrations could be caused due to something going wrong with the front fork! I had faced the same issue, and my bike is in the service centre right now for the same problem.

I hope you have done your first service, because its well past time for that. If done, did the SVC guys change your engine oil in that service? I think they should. If they didnt, please get it changed, as it is crucial at first service.

If the problems you mentioned are still persistent after first service, take it for another round at the SVC, fo rpeace of mind. Also, ensure that you are following the run-in procedures by the book. This will save you some trouble later with the bike.

About the fuel level... I guess its something you will have to live with. The fuel indicator is crazy!

Hope I could help. More experienced riders, please correct me if Im wrong.

Happy riding! Be safe!

Cheers!

Thanx for replying.

No, i didnt crash the bike. A tempo guy just touched the mirror as he was coming from behind. It was in traffic so my bike was stationary.

But my bike did fall while i was taking it out in the morning. I caught it so the fall wasnt abrubt, it was gentle. But it did happen 3 times. I guess that is what happens with a heavy bike initially.

Isnt the first service at 500 kms? I have been within the speed limit, just occasionally reached till 60, and twice went till 70 till now.

Dude, the first service is supposed to be done at 500 kms or 15 days whichever is earlier..

Please get it serviced ASAP. Also please refer the user manual that came along with the bike.

No bro, i just checked the manual. It says first free serivice, 500 kms or 45+-8 days, whichever is earlier. ( pg. 98)
It is hard to get 500 kms in 15 days.

But yea, will get the servicing done quickly. Trying to identify as many niggles as possible within this short time.

Hi gambit, I got the delivery on 25th Jan only, I did complete my 500kms and the first in 15 days, currently odo is showing approx 1700 kms.

Regarding the brakes, they do squeak a little but do speak to the service manager about it.

Mirror should cost around 180 bucks, if SVC asking more, get it for om any accessories shop, you will get a better deal.

It was my fourth and final free servicing.. And these ppl at thr svc have not changed my engine oil!! I say this because they would normally charge me to the oil cost, but nothing as such was reflected on the bill. They didn't change it on the third service either. So I have taken it upon myself to change the engine oil now!!

Experts please give your comments about replacing the engine oil on your own. I imagine it's not a very complicated process, still I would like to know stuff that I need to b careful about while doing so.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Cheers!

Mine is also showing cracks. And the second is oil lube not oil leak, I think so. And another problem I am facing is that the swing arm is hitting the chassis when hitting bumps. Don't know what to do ???
It's not about how hard you get hit... It's about how hard you get hit and just keep moving forward.

Your story may not have such a happy beginning... But that doesn't make you who you are... It is the rest of your story... Who you chose to be.

Hello @globe2ride, you can go ahead and change the Engine oil yourself, but be very careful while screwing back the drain bolt... if the threading is damaged, you will have to go for rethreading, and thats an expensive affair.
The engine oil needs to be replaced every 6000 KMs, according to my dealer's suggestion

Thanks TwilightRider I will be careful about the threading. Im sure my motorcycle has done more than 6000Kms without a replacement of engine oil. I wll check my service records again, and wait for 6000 before changing it, if it hasn't.

cheers!
