  • Guys

My TBTS has completed 750kms, 2 months.
Whenever riding with pillion, as soon as you release the acc. throttle ; chain makes a strange loud noise.
Any suggestions to clarify this urgently or to wait till the second servicing?
Has anybody encountered the same problem?

Sir it looks like it is only a loose chain, fix it with the local mechanic and keep riding. He will loosen the rear wheel axle and pull the wheel backwards and thats it.

I recently bought an used Thunderbird w/o twinspark 2002 model with the sole intension of modifying it into something trendy. The bike was not in prime condition, with engine oil leaks, rusted silencer, vibration carried to the front tyres, carburetor inlet manifold hose was damaged. But I got the bike for Rs. 35000. Quoted price was Rs. 45000 on Sulekha.

          Thunderbird For Sale in Chennai

Did some searching around and got impressed with this one, especially the petrol tank and the matte black finish.

I did a cold call to the Harley Davidson showroon in Chennai to enquire the price of such peanut shaped tank and they quoted a whopping Rs. 55000/- landed cost. I ran in opposite direction as fast as i could and did some more soul searching and managed to find this,

Harley HD sportster bobber chopper custom motorcycle peanut gas fuel petrol tank - Product Picture From VINTAGE AUTO WORLD

Yes they responded and a gentleman by name Rohan Nino Puri from Vintage Auto World New Delhi quoted the price to be Rs. 7500 and frieght extra. Yet to be negotiated.

Why I went for this choice is that the stock tank of thunderbird is in inclined position and in Iron 883 the inclination seems to be similar. And why I wanted to change the TB stock tank is that I want some bike which would turn heads. So much of an attention seeker you see.

Need your honest comments so that I can take this project forward...

This is my first long post and i am not even sure whther the pictures would show up at the right places.

I still have not decided on purchasing TB but even I thought of changing tank with TB500. It s a 20ltr tank and looked good in pics. Just some thoughts.

dude... thats bad . for starters try cleaning it with zorrik 88 or rustolene maintenance spray. spray it on the surface and let it react. wipe it off with a dry cloth after a while. repeat until the surface becomes clean. hope it helps.

Hey, i had the same problem, kinda......... my chain would make noise only while travelling on bumpy roads, observed that noise would come only at >50kmph. Issue was a loose chain, got it fixed by svc.
Would you be able to wait till 2nd service ?? i couldnt !

yes dude, i got it long back coming up with a review soon !
                        answers for your queries-
                        1. Ramkote is the hub for anything related to 2 wheelers in Hyd. U can find spares , mechanics and everything there.

                        2. Yes, even i heard the same thing in the service center, but there's nothing wrong in hunting the market.

for both your queries i recommend you to visit "Motorcycle House" (if i remember correct ) opposite shalimar theatre in ramkote. they sell Royal Enfield spares and other things there and the Sardar ji who runs the shop is a helpful guy and will help you out. good luck

What exactly you do to maintain the spoked wheel. Sorry to be ignorant but i have never touched the spoke or rims till date. Once in a month I give a water wash and thats it. So how would having "many spoked wheel"(god, someone tell me what to call such wheels) will be difficult to maintain. Correct me if i am wrong. And do you mean spoke tightening occasionally? But that is done by mechanic while truing the wheel.

Sok wheels are not that hard to maintain. You get a solution with mechs who will servicing apply to your metal parts in every 3-4 months, which prevents it from rusting. For tightening you need to be more cautious then normla Alloy, get it tightened in every 2 months. or if you think you have banged some potholes!!
