Ok. In the pics below. I have the oil filter pic and the oil strainer pic and also the metal grinding on the drain plug. What the SVC guys dont clean sometimes is the strainer. It is located under the engine near the drain plug.Click image for larger version

This is my first post in xbhp although I religiously follow fellow riders travelogue and discussions. Have learnt quite a few things from here. First a brief intro I should give about me. So here it goes
I Am RITABROTO Mukherjee. Although i am from Kolkata, I am currently staying in Bhalukpong, Arunachal Pradesh ( so if anyone wants to visit here or tawang, feel free to contact me for group riding and stuff. And I currently owna Thunderbird 350.

Now my current problem about which I need help from you guys.I am currently facing petrol leaking issue and when I visited RE service station in Tezpur, they told me it's a manufacturing defect and they can't do any thing but to replace it. Since it's in warranty I decided to replace it. But the fun part is that they are telling me I may not get the warranty because for my third servicing I took my bike 7 days later(after purchase date +- 15 days). Is it true or I can get a replacement?

        Thanks,
        Ritabroto

Technically these guys are right, a company can refuse you warranty if you have not satisfied all their requirements. But i have never heard of anybody actually being refused warranty on such flimsy grounds.

It might be just a case of the SVC acting pricey.

Thanks for the reply. But does that mean I don't have any ground? Because tank's price is huge. Beside that I have serviced my bike in time always & never serviced my bike outside. My first to service was in Kolkata and 3rd service was in Tezpur. I couldn't service my bike because it was in transit at that time. If by any chance my warranty gets denied, what will be my course of action?

Currently I have done a temporary solution. Since petrol is coming from the water hose, all I have done is put a screw in it and taped it pretty well. Can it pose any threat in the near future?

            Thanks,

No it means that you have to badger them a bit more. Shoot a complaint to RE Customer Care. Tell them you will take the company to court if they don't do it under warranty. A faulty fuel tank which is leaking can in a worst case scenario burn the bike and everything around it. Your life is in danger because of a manufacturing defect. The worse you make it sound, the faster the work will get done!!!

Having fuel dripping from the tank onto a hot engine is inviting disaster. It is best you don't ride till this problem is sorted out completely. From what i understand, the problem you are facing will not leave you stranded on the side of a road, but much worse.

              Do get this done ASAP.

                Hi,
Where exactly is the petrol leaking. You mentioned "water hose" What is that?. Well if the tank itself is leaking there is little you could do to repair it. (It can be done but it is a big process with welding, painting and stuff)

Well, I have seen most of the Enfield owners who are very rude and impatient at the SVC. Now that kind of attitude will not help. I am not saying you might be rude but I have seen that trend. The best way to have your bike taken special care of is to always be the most pleasant customer and make friends will all the service advisers and mechanics. This way they tend to go that extra mile with your bike and even some small issues and parts they do not even charge you. I am one of the most nagging customer and like things done to perfection but its the way you pamper those guys so you get your job done.

The SVC guys are very slow and sloppy at getting things done but in the mean time do post some pics of the leakage so we can see if there might be an alternate solution.

Exactly!! I am currently dealing with the SVC guys in a polite manner only. Actually the main problem is that I have to travel 65/70kms one way i.e. I currently live in Arunachal Pradesh(Bhalukpong) & I have to go to Assam(Tezpur). Even in this circumstances also I try to resolve every issue through them but honestly my bike is giving a hell lot of problem lately(it's not even 1 year old). Firstly there were heavy leakage from the bottom of the tank which according to the SVC guys was due to ruptured gasket. Immediately sorted it out and no problem is coming whatsoever. After that this problem has started i.e. Petrol is coming from one of the pipes(2 pipes) that are attached under the tank except the pipe to carburetor. The SVC guys are telling they will replace it under warranty as it's a manufacturing defect so didn't made any fuss/write to customer care. Lets see where this ends and when will I get a tank replacement. Will surely keep on posting.

Just make sure you ride slow for the first 500kms. Try to change the oil within 500kms and after that change every 2000kms. This way you take better care of your engine. Bullets are rough and tough and very reliable vehicles. Its just how you take care of it.

Yes Sir! And thank you very much. First time owning a RE and I am exited for the experience.

A small issue though, my bike idling barely around .5 and it is shutting down when I stop at signals. Could there be any other reason?
I'm going to the showroom tomorrow to complete the paperwork, will have it checked out.

This is my first post on this forum.. My dad used to ride Java 1960 model.. So I also had the fortune to ride that bike.. My own bike was a Yamaha but now I am done with these 125/150 cc bikes and planning to buy TB 350.. My only query is- ' Is it worth the money'
Because if not this bike I am going back to cars.. By the way I m 36 year old and height is 6 2' ( 87kg).
I need to bike for daily commuting and some long rides.. Should I go for it?? Please help.. Thanks in advance.

Thats bad Bro. Don't let your idling be as low as 500rpm. It will starve the head of oil as there will not be enough pressure for the oil to circulate properly to the head. Normally the showroom guys have it set at around 1200rpm I guess. I have mine set at around 800-900rpm. There is an adjustment screw below near the carburetor on the left side where the accelerator cable turns the butterfly. Just turn the screw clockwise and you will see the rpm increasing. You can play around with it to match your taste.

                            Hi Bro.
Welcome to XBHP. Ok to answer your questions, I have a few points for you as I have both kinds of machines The Lazy Cool Thunderbird and The Angry Screaming KTM RC390. it all depends on your riding style and taste. The Thunderbird 350 is definitely worth the price. It is a nice touring machine. I have been on a few long rides 500km+ per day and on the highway it is pretty relaxed. The bike is comfortable at speeds of 80-90kmph. I have touched around 120 on my 2011 TBTS a few times but anything after 100kmph becomes really scary due to the vibrations and a very insecure feel. For daily use it is ok, but after I bought the KTM, I almost stopped using my TBTS as the KTM is much faster and basically you get from point A to B much faster. My suggestion is buy a Royal Enfield ONLY if you love it otherwise you will not be satisfied.

Thanks a lot for the reply.. Well I think my racing days are over.. So I am looking for a comfortable ride.. Also TB has got me hooked to it.. Only confused if it's worth the money.. My primary concern are comfort, stability and not much trouble in servicing as I will be using it for daily commuting plus some fun family rides..
