It is time for me bike service. Overdue since 2014 Nov . Hey anyone tried using synthetic engine oil instead of conventional engine oil in their Bullets?

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

To my surprise I faced ZERO Issues with my TB purchased on Nov 1st 2994. None whatsoever.

When initially when R.E. launched the thunderbird it become a flop. All of the customers were complaining about the wear and tear of timing gears. I myself got 2004 model and faced the same problem. i got my timing gears changed 2 times in just 27k km.
i asked all the mechanics what is the problem whats wrong.
some said the material is not good. some said design is not good.

But what reason realy looks convincing is high tension springs. stiffness of head valve springs are very high. I replaced my head valve spring in 2007 after that i didn't faced such problem.

But in 2007 company launched the new variant.
this time there were more then 120 alterations in the bike.

now timing gears are mounted on adjustable spindles not like the old model fixed spindle.

Spindles are the rods on which gears rotates. now in adjustable spindles one can adjust the clearance between the gears and which lead to perfect meshing of gears due to which sound is reduced and also the wear problem. But still the problem is not resolved completely there are still some issue with timing gears not up to previous extent but still after around 30k i most of the cases they are worn out.

I have a question regarding the New RE Thunderbird 350. My bike is 2 week old now.
I had seen in one video that rear seat has some flat base to fasten saddle bags properly.
When i opened my rear seat the setup is not like the one in below picture.
The seat is fixed on frame directly, i see some nut arrangements to fix a flat plate but to me the plate is missing.

Is my bike different or are new Thunderbird coming like this only?

            I get roughly 35 + in city.
43+ on the highway, and maybe more depending on speed.
It might drop if you are driving consistently above 100.

Get it checked by RE's ASC. Looks like tunning issue. Should give you more.

Actually I am getting this low mileage post second service...checked several times with ACS..they usually tune carburetor, clean air filter, etc, with no improvement..I even sent a mail to RE and after that service manager called me and to the most they changed carburetor.. No improvement till now..and what's worrying is,the service centre people says that "sir, this is the actual mileage of Thunderbird 350....Thunderbird 500 will give more mileage because it has fuel injection...if you say anyone gets more mileage, then bring them.lets take a mileage test..."" I am clueless in this😢 my bike is due for fourth service and will be taking it to ASC in a couple of days..please help guys!

That's typical about them but you have to prove them wrong which is difficult. Escalate this and be very strict with them. Report to consumer court if you have to. The bike is awesome but this ASC screws it up or the company policy with the ASC. Why don't you show this to a local mechanic where he can give more idea to dispute at ASC. I am still in thinking should I give my bike for 4 service or no. Looks like tunning or some issue with engine which can't be identified by them.

Yes. the newer TBTS do not have that plate. it does not make much difference.

                          Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and it's more than a 100 pages here. Could some one just help me out with the general pros and cons of the bike. I am new to Royal Enfield...but I simply can't stop ogling at this beauty whenever I see one parked. How practical is the bike for city traffic manoeuvres, especially Bangalore? I guess fuel efficiency is what the majority says...35 to 40kmpl.

                              Hi,

I did take a test ride...and although I found it a bit heavy...I can attribute it to the fact that probably I am still not used to it.
Coming to the bike performance...it was just a short test ride around my locality, and since I wasn't used to its weight, I kept fumbling at lower speeds, and so couldn't gauge the performance. But I can't seem to get the ride out of my mind. The comfort of the seat and the thump and the feel of the bike itself was something that I haven't found in any other bike.

That apart, if some experienced members can share their accumulated pros and cons of the bike, as its a bit tedious going over the last 100 pages for the same, it would definitely help me to make an informed decision!!

                              Thanks in advance!!!

I have had my Tb for 4 months now.I dont understand what you mean by heavy.I upgraded from a Scotty and I didnt find TB heavy atall. RE shave awesome pulling power and riding is quite effortless. It does feel heavy when putting on main stand or take it out of congested parking.
for cons if you compare with other bikes-TB500,Dukes,Pulsars-its pickup, brakes.i dont like to ride hard so mostly am easily overtaken by dukes, pulsars and even activas by college girls wearing scarf for helmets You cant maneuver or zig zag it in traffic like a duke or smaller bikes.
I havent had a bad exp at ASC as yet and advisors have been patiently explaining to me my stupid queries also.
RE is a decision of the heart. For me 350TB give a nice calm ride to cruise and you dont feel stressed physically-esp the back.NO OTHER bike will give you that .If you want a fast bike to zip through traffic you will have to look elsewhere. I suggest you will make an informed decision if you go through the thread and 500TB.
                                Hope this helps somewhat.
