I plan to use the 6 month waiting period as a bonus, to learn about biking, and have already organized a Pulsar 150 for learning and practice.

Just would like to hear your thoughts, on whether it would be a good idea to go straight for the bird, or should I start of with some wannabe stuff like the Avenger220? If I buy a bike, It absolutely has to be a cruiser, so my options are quite limited here.

Kindly suggest from your experiences, is a 6 months run-in for a rider good enough to get his hands on the TBTS, or should you be more experienced in order to deserve one?

Thanks in advance for your wise advices.
I have gone straight for Bullet Classic as my first bike... and beileve me there nothing to learn in it.. its much like car and gearrless scooters... bullet is a awesome first bike and you should surely go for it...

Rest regarding the model solely deends on your choice.. personally I don't like thunderbird and electra.. so I had to choose between classic and standard...

      Thanks a lot lovish,

I was anyway going to book it. Decided to go for a Thunderbird Twinspark, I guess that model suits me. Have been through every single post in this thread, and despite getting to know all the kinks in oil leakage, etc., My enthusiasm for owning this bike has not dropped one little bit.

This bike I have heard is also good for city riding, which is also going to be the case for me, besides the miles of touring I would like to do. One problem I have heard from Classic model owners, is the turning radius, which seems more comfortable with the TB model. Again, I am repeating what i have been told, have no personal experience whatsoever.

Will post on updates, which I am afraid will be a long time coming, considering the waiting period.

Thanks again, appreciate all your help, which I got even before posting my query.

      Cheers!
      G2R.

Anytime bro... all the best for your first bulllet...

Another thing I would like to add is the new engines of bullet are really realible and its unlikely the bike would give you any problem in first 2 years

And yeah the classic has a bit of turning radious problem on the silemcer side.. as the silencer touches the road if the bike is bent too much... but that could be easily corrected by changing the silencer for the sporty one... ( I personaly like the stock one )

Also the crusier bikes like bullet are bot for cornering... ( we have japnese plastic ones for that )

A bullet is more of a straight bike with 180 kg of weight....

Anyway congratz for your bullet bro... A bullet is a Bullet no matter which one it is.. so we are biker brothers now

Regarding the waiting period.. which city do you belong to and what's the time they told you for the deilevery of thunderbird ??

        • Well I am from Mumbai, I know i can get a quicker delivery if i throw in a few grand extra, but I would like to have some waiting for it, I get time to get my license done, and roll out a few kilometers on a regular bike, before i get my hands on the bird. Just to make sure i am reasonably comfortable handling a bike, and don't mess up with my bird in its run-in period. I don't care if i break the japanese bike while i'm learning, I'd never take that chance with my bullet. I wanna ensure a run-in period as smooth as possible for it.

Certainly agree with you about the cornering, but trust me bro, I am not getting this bike for cornering, I wanna roll out the highways on it. I am a chilled out person, (some might like to call that lazy) and I am not in it for speed either, I am getting this one for riding comfort, to go a long long way..

Those plastic Japs can zap past me all they want, I would just meet them up ahead on the highway, and give a polite grin, when they get all burned out after a few miles.

          Really appreciate your warm welcome.

          Cheers!

            • Met a guy on his TBTS yesterday at a petrol bunk. He commutes to Melmaruvathur and back everyday on his bike! That's a round 200 KM trip on the NH 45. Beautiful road, beautiful ride! He feels very comfortable and no back/neck pain. Says he does a steady 80 - 100 KMPH.

              • Hello dear Bikers,

Just booked my TBTS today from Soniya motors Thane. Any xbhpians if bought your bikes from that place, I would appreciate hearing about your dealership experience. I paid Rs. 5000 as the booking amount, can someone confirm if that is correct? because I remember it used to be Rs. 1000.

Anyway, I don't mind that much, just checking to confirm if i am dealing with right guys or are they in for taking me for a ride. The dealer said, waiting period is about 6 months, but a TBTS you may get earlier than that. (I dunno how that would be possible). But I am super excited on booking my bike, and here comes the wait.........

                Cheers!

                  • My Black Thunderbird

I removed all the Chrome and painted everything black.
Changed the back rim to 18" and also changed the rear tire to Pirelli MT90 120/80 18.
painted the rims black, the engine also to black.
Let me know how it looks

i'm stunned ! just a few days back i was photoshopping the bike to get the same look, everything black !!!
kudos to your efforts.. its looking good but can you post a few more pics . engine is looking neat. a matte finish might have been better on the indicators/headlamp/speedo console/tail lamp. the rims are looking odd. seats are looking good . are they comfy ? no backrest

                      1. why dint you paint the crash guard ?
                      2. what paint did you use on the engine and silencer ? wont it get peeled off due to the heat
                      3. the rear wheel is looking too good, is it a direct fit or any mods were done to accommodate the width ? whats the drop in fuel efficiency ?
                      4. how much did the paint job cost and even the 18'' rim and new tire ?

my friend exp very bad fronts from them, they unecessarily make it late, it's some 1.2 yrs back when he had booked TBTS it was 2 months wait and later they made it to 5 months wait, infact they don't even co-ordinate properly or don't give any info on the bike status. We have to call them after waiting period to get the status!!! Keep close track on this booking, i don't think TBTS is 6 months, it;s actually 4 months.

                        • Dear Somen,

Thanks for the info. I will keep them under close watch, and maybe start checking for status after 4 months itself. Looks like the entire RE experience including dealership and service is going to increase my persistence level quite a lot. So i guess there's a little bit of good in that as well.

Till I get any more updates, I will just be silently reading through your posts.

                          Cheers!

                          • Silencer for TBTS

                            Hi all,

Has anyone fitted Electra Silencer on TBTS? I had some problem with my stock silencer as its too heavy and when hitting potholes on high speeds, the plate which atttaches silencer to bike, breaks...

I don't have any passion for high/heavy thump...

You have booked the best indian comfortable bike!! Congrats on that! Don't worry RE is no more like previous engines with oil leakage or sudden stop of engine and 25kmpl average!!

UCE engines are reliable ones, follow the Run-in period and do periodic servicing and you will be ready for Ladakh Terrains and all! It will give you an average from 30-42kmpl purely on your riding style. Very nice cruiser indeed.

But surely it's not for high speed. TBTS does 110kmph as i have seen, but never went beyond that as a good will of RE and people experience on RE

Do tour a lot else no use of buying this bike!!!

I guess you will get a chance to switch TBTS to TB500 also. but it's around 1.87L as said by RE Company Showroom. It's ready to launch in Aug 1st week!!

If you are talking about the Stock silencer that electra or CL shares then Yes you can fit it.

                                Thanx for your response

I don't want a long one like TBTS stock has, coz its heavy n the plates have already broken twice!!

How's Goldstar or other short ones? Where can I get a complete review of these as in after their fitment, the average/engine performance/effect on high speeds/touring experience...
