kudos to your efforts.. its looking good but can you post a few more pics . engine is looking neat. a matte finish might have been better on the indicators/headlamp/speedo console/tail lamp. the rims are looking odd. seats are looking good . are they comfy ? no backrest
surajit09: The seats are good. Not bad. Yah due to the springs, they are quite comfortable.

    1. why dint you paint the crash guard ?
surajit09: Paint was over. So ordered new ones.

    2. what paint did you use on the engine and silencer ? wont it get peeled off due to the heat
surajit09: Used the Duplicolor Engine flat black paint.
This paint can withstand around 1200 degree Fahrenheit.
U have to process the paint properly after painting.
Other wise it will peel off.
Processing means like after the paint becomes dry, you have to follow some process.

    3. the rear wheel is looking too good, is it a direct fit or any mods were done to accommodate the width ? whats the drop in fuel efficiency ?
surajit09: Yah it was a direct fit to th rear, and no mods were required.
Fuel efficiency, it will go down by at most 1-2 km/ltr.
But the breaking and the ride has become good. Very very stable, because of the tire.
    4. how much did the paint job cost and even the 18'' rim and new tire ?
surajit09: I painted it at home with the spray paint can.
    Paint details:
1-> Engine and bend pipe paint : duplicolor low gloss black engine paint ( search in ebay.in :: cost around 1600 for one 400ml)
you will need two bottles for the engine itself.
    2-> Silencer : Powder coated
3-> Rest paint : removed the chrome with the sand paper, and then used com-paint ( midnight black :: cost 145 per 12 g bottle)
4-> After the paint put the clear coat for sure
5-> after 24 hrs, use a rubbing compound to rub the new paint till u make the surface smooth, put a liquid polish

I did all these at my home.
    got the paint online.

For Engine paint you have to follow a couple of steps.
You have to follow the curing process to ensure top performance.
ON the vehicle, paint must be completely dry,
    • run engine at idle for 10 minutes,
    • cool for 20 minutes,
    • run at idle for 20 minutes,
    • cool for 20 minutes,
    • run at normal operating conditions for 30 minutes.

Also the matt finish on the indicators will not suit, as the color of the so called black Thunderbird is not black, but greenish black.
So it will be a sharp contrast.
I had tried the same. But later changed the color.

I don't want a long one like TBTS stock has, coz its heavy n the plates have already broken twice!!

How's Goldstar or other short ones? Where can I get a complete review of these as in after their fitment, the average/engine performance/effect on high speeds/touring experience...

You can go for the Goldstar. Its good enough.
The mileage and the performance will not change. In fact your throttle response will change a bit, become little bit more responsive.
The sound will be very very different.
The mileage will not go down at all.
Only one thing, you should re-tune the carb, if miss-firing happens.

And on high speed, no, it will not come down, but little bit increase will be there.
I am using the Goldstar from Sans Inc ( saurabh Katar ) .
    its quite good enough.

Goldstar sounds great! Whats the cost and will I have to change complete exhaust kit or only silencer? And is it available on any RE showroom/SVC.

      BTW, I'm from Pune...

Brilliant work!! I liked all black theme. Particularly impressed with rear tyre mod. Apart from rim size change, you did not change swing arm for rear tyre mod?

        take care and ride safely

In Pune there is a place for RE only, where you can get all sorts of parts and after market kits for Bullet.
There you will get the silencer and everything.
A Goldstar will cost you around 1800-2500.
It comes with the Glasswool. So just check out the shops in Pune only. The pune Goldstar is quite famous.
Just go for the silencer that has a good bassy thump.
Just let me know if you did get or not.
you can also order it online.
If you dont get it, then let me know i will tell you how to order online

Did you changed the spoke and flywheel?

you need to buy the RIM and the Spokes for this.
The Rim is the Classic 500 rear RIM.
The hub and the rest can be your old ones. No problem with that.
                  And no mods required.
                  Cost :
                  Pirelli MT90(120/80 18) tire : 10000
                  Rim + Spoke : 1500

You can see the below link for your reference. It as a pic :

Yes, well that would just go beyond what I can afford right now, but i guess I would be pretty happy with my 350cc TBTS. Will move to bigger engines in due course of time. Hopefully.

I am an absolute newbie to biking, I dont even have a 2 wheeler liscence yet, But i am planning to buy myself a TBTS.

I plan to use the 6 month waiting period as a bonus, to learn about biking, and have already organized a Pulsar 150 for learning and practice.

Just would like to hear your thoughts, on whether it would be a good idea to go straight for the bird, or should I start of with some wannabe stuff like the Avenger220? If I buy a bike, It absolutely has to be a cruiser, so my options are quite limited here.

Kindly suggest from your experiences, is a 6 months run-in for a rider good enough to get his hands on the TBTS, or should you be more experienced in order to deserve one?

Thanks in advance for your wise advices.
                          Hello,

As you have decided to go for TBTS, so there is no point considering any other bike in mind. Even if you put your hands on another bike, your mind & heart will keep thumping for TBTS. Just one suggestion within these 6 months of waiting period be a good sensible rider. Be use to all sort of roads because riding a RE and another bike is totally different feeling and ball game. Initially ride slow and take full control of the bike.

Apart from it, best of luck. Happy & safe riding.

                          Thanks

As i said that i did not change the hub.
I think you had been to the authorized service center.
They tend to sell you more spare parts than required.
The HUB of thunderbird, Classic 350, 500 all are the same. No difference.
So you can easily use the Thunderbird HUB.

I did not change the HUB. I am using the same HUB. Its a direct fit.
I only changed the Rim and the spokes. I used the CLassic 500 rim.

Also i went to the company service center ( not authorized, but the direct company service center in Bangalore ). So they dont mind if there parts dont sell. They are company employees. So they generally dont give incorrect suggestions.
I am not facing any problem till now.
I covered asround 1000km with the new tire

As i did it at home, so it did not cost me a lot.
I only paid for the spray paint cans.

                              Cheers!
