Self oil change
Hi guys, been a long time since my last post. As for my bike, it's running fine. The only problem is that after riding in bumper to bumper trafffic for about an hour, when the engine becomes hot, the tic-tic sound from the rocker box becomes veryyy loud. Have any of you faced this problem ?? I will definitely have the tappets checked for my next service, but I feel like It's an engine oil issue. Thats why I am planning to change over to semi synth motul 5100 oil. My odo till now is 6500Km. Is it a good idea or should I stick to mineral ?? Also I am planning to change the oil myself from now on. Can someone guide me on what to do ? I mean I know the oil drain port is under the engine and the oil filter is at the right side, but is opening the drain port enough, or the clutch housing also has to be drained ?? Any help will be appreciated.

The tit-tic sound is from the starter, which goes down with running.u can do nothing else about it.All UCEs do that.Originally posted by anindyameister View PostHi guys, been a long time since my last post. and being an air cooled engine the engine will run hot when in traffic.
Motul 5100 shows a noticeable improvement over 3000. Have been using it for a while and runs smooth even after 2k km. I've found motul 3000 to break nearing 2000 km, specially during summers.
There is a thread in the DIY section for replacing engine oil.
open the cap where you pour the engine oil. Open and clean the drain nut and the drain magnet. remember to warm the engine for a minute so that the oil pours out smoothly. Some mechanics use pressurised air or spraying petrol or just tilting the bike to take out the remaining oil. open the hub of engine oil filter. be careful as there is a spring behind the cover. Clean/replace the element. put back everything and fill the new oil.

K&N E-0900 air filter
Did any one here replace the air filter of the TBTS with E-0900 K&N one ?
If yes can you tell me what all you have done.
The pros and the cons.
Did the mileage go down ?______________________________________________________________

RE stock filters are good enough. I don't think changing the air filter is going to improve anything.Originally posted by surajit09 View PostDid any one here replace the air filter of the TBTS with E-0900 K&N one ?

Guys
I am in a strange problem now!
Thanks to heavy mansoon, my service manuel got wet beyond recovery and I still have two free servicings left with my TBTS.
I contacted the dealer (Bandra) but he is not assuring anything.
What can be done in this situation?

The dealer is bound to help you. If he refuses contact the RE regional manager (email address given at RE website). The company has record of the free servicing you've doneOriginally posted by abhi135 View PostGuys

Mate the RE filters are good, but this K&N improves performance.
This is for sure.
But i wanted to know if some one has done it, then did they change the jets.______________________________________________________________

The general perception is that free flow filters like K&N open up the top end of the rpm band a little more while dipping the low end a bit. But these opinions are all for the 150-200cc short stroke overhead cam engines. Also as our birds are carbureted, I think you'll have to use bigger jets to adjust for the excess incoming air. Please do post your perception of the positive and negative feels. Especially the low and top end and fuel consumption.Originally posted by Loner View Posti have a K&N, i'll try with it in a couple of days and post the result

What is a starter ?? Is it a moving part ?? Where is it located ? I think the sound is coming from the rocker box, but i'm not sure about this.Originally posted by akshayrbk View PostThe tit-tic sound is from the starter, which goes down with running.u can do nothing else about it.All UCEs do that.

this was my first issue. complained about it during first service and according to the asc guys "its the sound of decompressor lever. it can be be removed but results in performance loss and the engine life which is around 80k kms drops to around 45-50k kms"Originally posted by anindyameister View PostHi guys, been a long time since my last post.
