Oil Leakage in a new bike? Is this issue common and can it be sorted out? 470kms old, first service due on Saturday.

Buddy this is oil due to excessive lubrication of the chain

I m also facing the same issue. Its hardly a month old bike. I could see bit oil leaking by the engine side areas.

Luckily its not too much of oil..but still makes me worried.

        Any views on this guys?

excessive lubrication of chain !! buddy, this is starter motor area. chain lube/oil has nothing to do there.

            .
If you look closely, oil spillage is not on starter motor area but it is beneath it, the RHS crankcase/engine cover(Sorry I do not know the technical name for it). I had, or rather have the same issue on my TB.
This is common with most TB's I have seen at the service center, even I was alarmed at first but at a recent service camp organised by RE this doubt was cleared by the ASM.

              Hi Folks!!

I have been a silent reader and dropping in this note for the first time on xbhp!!

I am a proud owner of Thunderbird 350 (2013). I am facing a problem where the chain seems to be touching something or the other and gives out a screeching feeling every time I am on a lower gear (1st to 3rd) when you idle between 20-35 kmph near the speed breakers for example.

I have got it checked out by the ASC (Mehaboob garaje) near Fun World in Bangalore and he loosens up the chain considerably. Takes multiple tries everytime by making me sit on the bike and sometimes with a pillion and sets the chain properly. This seems to fix the problem temporarily but the same screeching sound and feeling comes back after few days.

The mechanic says it is a perennial problem with the latest Thunderbird. Any suggestions on a permanent fix for this please? Any inputs will be of much help as I am taking the bird to get it checked again day after tomorrow.

              Thanks a bunch!!

              Cheers!

@npawar do let us know if you find side luggage boxes. i am looking to see whether i can find boxes which will fit on both sides, so that they will look symmetrical and wont spol the look of the bike. only option so far is to get them fabricated i posted a pic of such fabricated boxes a few pages before.
Chotu - did u manage to get the side saddle bag ? I am still trying in various places, but turning up expensive to ship it from outside India please do let me know if any luck in getting one or fabricating one

Guys, a few updates from my end. Have been inactive in the forum for last few months.

                          Updates are as below:
My TBTS has completed 92000 golden kms in 2 years 7 months. Recently, we have done few memorable rides as below:
                          Ride to Kanyakumari
                          Ride to Rann of Kutch
                          Ride to RE Ridermania
                          RIde to BOBMC ridermania
                          Ride to Mumbai and Konkan
                          Ride to Vizag
                          Ride to Dhanuskodi and Kumbakonam

Apart from that, few more rides which are in the 500-1000 km range.

                          Major issues faced:
Camwheel and rocker sets are gone along with the oil pump. Needs replacement. Estimated cost is INR 8000.

Taking a break from the rides for few months to take care of some personal prioritites and medical exigencies . I shall jump in time-to-time to update, whenever applicable.

                          Thump on!

Got absolutely same problem...get that screechinhg kind of a feeling whenever rpm gets close to 1500 mark and slowing down...problem started after first service...went to the service centre with the problem and they loosened the chain..the problem disappeared but the chain started to hit the swingarm..again chain was tightened and the problem restarted...is there a solution to this...

The only solution that the mech has given me is to keep the chain lubricated always. He attributes it to the chain not being properly oiled everytime i take it to him. Somehow - I am not convinced with this answer since I can feel it even when it is completely oiled - just not able to convince him though!!

Any others facing this issue please?
