  • Dog Menace

Friends, 20 minute back I nearly collapse in the floor when I lifted the bike cover to my heartache I saw my new TB 350 rider's seat being chewed off by our own dog. At first I thought of roasting the dog!!! ha ha, but on second thought, it teaches me to be more careful while parking the bike.

What kind of problems could you kindly elaborate? Because if they are small niggles like loose screws or small rust or things like that, then you should probably tell your friend that he should have known what he was getting into before he ordered it. RE as we all know is not devoid of these small problems. People do not buy the TBTS because they want a "environment proof" Jap bike. They buy it due to a whole different reason which has been narrated over a million times in this forum so i won't really get into it.

So if your friend got the bike thinking it would be a trouble free/maintenance free like the japs... he's into a heap of trouble.

I have clocked almost 5k kms on my thunderbird, so i don't thibk its matter of breaking in.
            For posture: i have tried sitting straight;
i have tried sitting leaned forward, but leaning forward looks awkward n is also not a natural sitting position on thunderbird, this pain doesn't arise if m on a uphill drive

Totally agreed with the above statement. I have issues even today with my Thunderbird. Oil drip from under the engine, or some nut or bold that always needs attention. Or even the odometer acting crazy. Hey but if you need a trouble free bike, a Royal Enfield is no precision motorcycle. The Japs are good at that. That does not mean you wont get good service or attention. All the Bull needs is a little extra of your attention which many of us do not have today due to the simple word called 'Life'.

Finally did my first service a couple of weeks ago @390km. There was this whole confusion about my servicing dates, based on sale date and delivery date, etc. but it was OK in the end. Post service, the bird seems smoother in operation, but somehow Im getting too many false neutrals, while navigating through traffic, earlier I thought it was a matter of adjusting my riding style, but its been happening far too often after the first service. Any one else facing this issue? and what should be the cause/solution for this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Second question, I am looking to change my stock silencer, not because I want a loud one, but just a better looking one. IMO the stock silencer does not really look good. But i have clocked only 1k Km so far, and as per few advices, i should wait till my second service before i change my silencer, still I'd like to get any advices the experts may have concerning the silencer replacement.

                Cheers!

One problem is of the split seats, I feel the discomfort comes for tall(er) people from having to sit on the rear upper curve or almost on the split itself. Also I guess there is a little period of settling/breaking in, just like a helmet.

As a new rider, I did feel saddle sore ... the bottom and then the upper back starts to pain, but am slowly able to sit for longer rides without discomfort now. For upper back, I guess I need to improve riding posture.
Regarding the tail bone , I agreed that while riding my old CBZ such problems doesn't arise, however, since switching to the RE TB350 I too! started to feel the pain in my tail bone. I think someone out there may have a word of wisdom how to ease this tail bone problem.

It happens with me also when in traffic for a long time and mainly when downshifting from 2nd to 1st, as the gears have become smoother (especially upshifting) you hardly feel that thok-thok of shifting so you don't know that you haven't gone from 2nd to 1st. With a lot of traffic shifting, our feet is continiously alternating between the ground and the foot-rest, so sometime the front of the foot doesn't completely land and in turn press the down-shift. When I encounter that neutral, I just give it one nice thok for both mine and the impatient traffic's satisfaction before moving on.

Silencer is advised only after 10k, don't know whether it's because the bike is well run in or because RE's warranty expires. But, I think you can change to RE's own silencers earlier, ask at the ASC. Just wait before you put on the other after-market silencers.

IMHO, the stock silencer is definitely not a good looker, but on this new TB, the other silencers look weird as they are thinner.

Thank you TranquilRage. I see you are from Mumbai as well. Are you part of any riding group? I would like to join one myself. But i guess it would be better to take this discussion further on PM?? I am not sure about the rules of this place.

Earlier i used to ride a stunner and after a misadventure i injured my back and started facing the same problem, and the stunner's seating posture was not at all helping me. So this was the reason i bought a TBTS. On the bull, i never felt the same pain while riding it, but a new pain started in my hands everytime i rode it, due to my 6'1 frame and i have long hands, and pain used to spread to my shoulders during long drives, because the stock handlebar was uncomfortable. I changed the handlebar with an electra one and the seating posture became extremely comfortable. Till now, no pain anywhere, be it city or highways . Even the RD350's handlebar is a good choice. Regarding the riding posture, like "TranquilRage" said, if you are sitting on the curve try not to do it, and instead sit on middle of the rider's seat, i'm sure it'll help
                      p.s mine's an early 2012 model..

Well, personally i like the sound of the stock one but i dont like its long shape so had to change it to a short bottle one (slight dhud dhud) right after purchase at the showroom itself, with the showroom guys assuring that it'll not harm the engine. It's nearly 12k old but no issues till now . If you dont want dhud dhud then you can go for the RE's upswept exhaust. Now I'm thinking to cut the stock one a few inches at the outer end to make it short but i guess it'll mess up the sound as the exhaust hole's width will be more then .. any idea what happens

Yes, Likewise, I am a really new rider myself, got my drivers license a month before i got my TB350. Will definitely check out the threads after monsoon, as I will be going for another adventure in late september and will not be here for a couple of weeks.

Bro, I guess you have the previous model of TB. In that, definitely short bottle looks better than that stock 'bottle gourd' silencer . But in this new TB, all other silencers look too thin and the stock silencer, though ugly, is still the best looking.

P.S. Also overall, I think the older TB model looks real good, in the new TB they added some fantastic things but some things are downright ugly and the bike in its whole is a mix of great and ugly.

I read somewhere that RE was going to launch a new silencer for TB350 and TB500 called "WILD BOAR" or something. Anyone got any updates on that?

Buddy wild boar is an aftermarket silencer and very popular here in bangalore and easily available too, cost 3K

Thanks for the info bro, but as TranquilRage suggested, aftermarket might mess up the warranty, guess i have a lot of riding to do before i can get one for myself. Can you upload authentic pictures, if you have one? A snap of the installed one will be awesome, if you have that mod already. Looked up the internet, only to find varying results, cant really say which one is the wild boar.

You can safely change the silencer after 2.5K as 2K is the running period and this where you have to take the maximum care that engine is set properly and then have some extra 500kms just to make sure engine is set nicely, you can say 500 for that extra margine after that you can go for change.. Let me know if you need some inputs on that as Bullet bug bit me that is one thing but bit me harder the Bullet sound bug

Give me sometime and I would show you Bull with wild boar. It sound really nice but I would suggest don't go for it as it does not look good on Bull, it is so big, personally I don't like though sound is good. I can suggest you many and regarding warrenty here in Bangalore they don't care only thing is if something happens to the engine and you had aftermarket silencer then they would not consider the damage under warrenty else they don't care
